A bit of background: This has always been my main character,a CC/Heal specialist, regardless of the state of Bards in the game.

I have been away for a few months, and lo and behold, I can now add dps to the mix.

This is a current character, with current numbers - so some of my gear isn't the best, due to a lack of play.

The priority is still CC/Healing, but some sacrifices have been made to add viable nuking.

The bard runs in Exalted Angel to access nuke SLAs, Soundburst SLA, MCMW SLA.

I switch between Mass Hold and Horn of Thunder depending on destiny, content and what I feel like running. Probably run with fire energy burst if no Horn of Thunder or Fire and Electric if running horns (due to current gear)

Posted in-case somebody wants ideas on how to run something similar, and to get tweaks/suggestions/corrections; that would be appreciated.

Two Notes:
-I didn't level this build. I leveled a pure 20 DPS Healing Bard, then LR
-Amusingly, you can get a workable necro DC for epic Hard, probably mids 60s?

Any errors? Ways to improve? Things I have missed?

This is very close to my Lamannia pure 20 build except I went with fire instead of electric since I already had a tier 3 thunderforged fire weapon made that I could use. Electric would have definitely been my first choice for times when I exchange horn of thunder for mass hold, but I ultimately opted to re-use my existing weapon instead because it is so costly to make.

Here is my build: https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/445520-Exalted-Bard

I ultimately went with a bard 16/fvs 2/ rogue 2 to improve my light/fire crits a little, spell point regeneration, evasion and limited trapping skills (great search/disable - no spot - open lock is slightly better than knock). The main reason for the change is on Lamannia my dc was overkill - I intentionally lowered it a bit Lamaniia and it made no difference which gave me the confidence to give up 3 DC /4 Charisma vs. pure bard.

I can solo about 90% of ee content which is significantly better than my pure 20 bard build due primarily to a decent reflex save and evasion, but in a party I find I don't need quite as much survivability. The 10% I can't solo is primarily due to a low fort save. Flesh to stone and sonic stuns own me, but again in a party this is a very minor issue. Compared to my shiradi which can solo 100% of ee content, this build is much more party friendly so overall this is my favorite character right now.

Your enhancements are very close to what I had on Lamannia except I spent less points in warchanter and more in Swashbuckler for more dodge, reflex, sonic sp and will save debuffs. Destiny and twists are identical except I took unearthly reactions as a 4th twist. Since I splashed in fvs I put more action points there for more spell power and spell points.

I will be interested in knowing how extra 5 DC helps against shadar-kai and orc clerics in EE stormhorns (orc clerics it almost never worked on EE and shadar-kai was hit and miss- in some quests it was no fail and other times all made their save). Those are the main enemies my DC didn't work against, but 68 is either no fail or very close to it for almost everything. I didn't find spell pen to be a significant issue and I invested less into than you. If you find the DC is overkill as I did, you can always take more light spellpower from EA. Since you are at an odd # for Cha, you have at least 1 wiggle room there.

As for spell pen, I dumped it completely other than my past lifes and what came free on my gear. I found it only mattered against drow and the content is usually easier so straight dps was more than enough.

Anyhow, I've been playing a straight bard caster since the patch came out and am loving it! Bards are fun to play again and I've had two vets in pugs tell me my build was OP and should be nerfed (and they were serious) which made me happy.

Compared to my old cha-based 16 fvs/2 pal/ 2 monk it is less survivable (less hp and am missing the 100+ reflex), but with better dps and the cc is what really put the build over the top for me. It's a huge benefit for parties.

Enjoy your build! I expect we will see more pure bard casters as people realize how good it is. At the moment people are undestimating it.

I think your build is definitely more versatile and well rounded. 20 Bard was important to for Heal.

Wish I had a 4th twist...

Will let you know how I go - I will probably swap the cha point for armourer once I grab some medium armour. I have an odd number because of the amount of destiny swapping I used to do, with differing amounts of charisma in each destiny

As for spell pen, I dumped it completely other than my past lifes and what came free on my gear. I found it only mattered against drow and the content is usually easier so straight dps was more than enough.
Interesting - I might see if I can save some AP there

They've always been fun to me ;p

I am currently playing a pure caster bard.

In heroics, it was even more powerful than my sorcs.

However, in epics I find that I lack punch. My SLAs crit for around 1k with 300 spell power + feats at lvl 21.

The problem is that you only have 1 real damage SLA if you take mass hold, 2 otherwise but in a really long cooldown.

I use the spell form of shout and g shout, but since you cannot maximize it without running out of SP quickly, it is rather mediocre damage.

So how do you guys deal with this? Relying on energy burst and the ED slas? Bursts are not as powerful as they are in other builds and to use exalted SLAs I find I would be better off using a FVS.

I also find it hard to have both evocation and enchant at high enough levels. Evo is needed for sonic spells, since they rely on fortitude.

Fortitude DCs are awful in epics so I find I need well above the 60 treshold I use for reflex DCs. This gimps a bit my enchant.

So to sum it up, I find that I end up playing like a FVS with CC, but so far I trade a ton of DPS for the CC.

How are you guys finding the DPS in your builds? Am I missing anything?

Also, having such high spell power is not possible while leveling (outside of sonic), so it is a bad platform for TRs I find.

Am I wrong?

Honestly, I'm really happy with the dps, although it is a secondary concern to CC.

I use energy burst, bard SLAs, Exalted Angel SLAs, Hellball, Ruin. It tends to be better for trash killing than boss killing, because some of those spells are on longer kill downs.

I tend to mass hold a group of mobs, then use an AOE - the damage is very respectable. I would love to twist in sense weakness, but can't /haven't.

Obviously a toon dedicated to dps will do better, but to put in context, this character often seems to be good/used for trash clearing in raids etc.

Playing a very similar bard in the low end of epic levels atm, and love it so much, but I have no idea what gear to aim at. Grinding dungeons is fine, but I tend to stay away from raids.

Most specifically what medium armor can I get.

I went:
1) Breastplate of the Shining Sun (level 20) -cleric comms
2) Terrorweb Chitin (level 22) -auction house
3) Shadowscale (don't need to do raid to make the armour, base level 26, upgraded 28) - you can pick up the ingredients on AH
