Am making a first life 32 point build Half Elf Sorcerer specializing in Conjuration/Acid - Earth spells for my own amusement, but am wondering if am doing this right.

I am assuming you are doing this for fun/flavor and do not want someone to bother trying to convince you that warforged fire evocation is the more optimal choice, yes? Assuming that's true:

No matter what, if you're not doing this as an LR, take Maximize at level 1 and Empower at level 3. You will initially use them only for your SLAs, for which they are free. But they're tremendously useful at low levels. The SP you will save from being able to kill things with super-powered SLAs will greatly outweigh the extra SP you gain from Mental Toughness as a lowbie.

You are almost certainly going to want Quicken at some point. It's a lot more urgent on a Warforged, who needs it for Reconstruct. But you'll probably still want by the time you get to epic levels, if not earlier (eventually, on a fleshy, you're probably going to be twisting in Rejuvenation Cocoon for self healing, and you'll want it for that). It's also extremely useful on certain slow-casting spells that have to be cast in a time-sensitive way (the DOTs for boss DPS, Otto's Sphere if you use that, etc.).

I know that getting Quicken basically means giving up either Epic Mental Toughness or Epic Spell Focus, since you lose the heroic prerequisite feat (unless you choose to take the heroic feat in epic levels). Which one to give up is your call. Personally, I can easily live with losing a couple of DCs on a first-life sorcerer who's going to be focused on DPS rather than DC casting anyway. It's your call, though.

I feel like you're spending too many APs on the dubiously useful Eldritch Knight enhancements. Is it just for the Force/universal spellpower benefits? If so, that's reasonable, although I feel like you might be better served by taking a minor dip into either Fire or Ice. But that's super easy to respec at any time, so no worries. However, you should know that right now on Live -- and still on the current Lammania build -- the Wand and Scroll Mastery from the Eldritch Knight tree is broken and does nothing. (Sadly, this is another negative for non-robot sorcerers.)

Spell list is very reasonable. I would change some things -- I'm in love with DBF, and even used it a lot on my earth savant life, for example. And I never memorize Teleport . . . even on a wizard, I'd rather use the slot for something else, when the scrolls are so cheap and easy. I'm personally not crazy about the Power Word spells, just because of the cooldown, but they can certainly be useful.

On quicken : It's possible to skip it on a sorc as your spell casting speed will speed up as you level up... guess that's why you've got so many points in concentration which is a good thing.

Other than that I don't wanna comment too much on spell choices as it's mostly for fun as you said but i'd scroll stoneskin. And if you'd ask me though, I would take a 2nd element (while leveling - minor investment from tree while getting it up from gear) instead of relying only on force spells in case of acid immuned/resist. You might have left over point anyway. As Cardtrick said, the EK points are not gonna be so much useful.

Possibly 2 more str vs 1 less con or int as well. Even more so if you have a +1 tome in for any of those 2 stats.

You could also trade a bit of magic capability for decent melee from EK. Bit more str, same DCs, same spells, full earth specced, etc.

And to conclude, definately Maximize/Empower as soon as possible (at least one of the 2 i'd say)

It's gonna work... if that's what you want to know :).

1. Good point about taking those metes are early levels, I'll try that.

2. Oh, am not keen on taking Quicken on a Sorcerer, aren't they getting the benefits of that mete without increase SP cost but still subject to a Concentration check?

3. Yes its for the Force spellpower, not many things are resistant to it unless its a construct...I cant believe that the EK Wand and Scroll Mastery is useless!

This character doesn't have any tomes yet since its a first life, so that's why the cha is maxed at 29, as you can see. Also since this character is focused on Conjuration magic, so enemies will have a harder time trying to save vs. Acid spells, which gives me a chance of doing full damage to them + any crit the spells make.

This character is not a melee, its focused on spellcasting, am using EK to "armor" this character's hide from damage since its a fleshy and not a highly resistant Warforged, I also did spend points in it for the Wand & Scroll Mastery, but since its broken, like Cardtrick said, now I have no where to put those three points into.

Any recommendations?

It's certainly not mandatory, but I still like it a lot on sorcerers.

Sorcerers have fast casting, but it's not the same as Quicken. I don't know exactly how the stacking works, but Quickening a spell definitely speeds it up a lot on a sorcerer. I only use it on a sorcerer for especially slow-casting spells or those that I need to get off in a hurry and really don't want to have interrupted -- Otto's Sphere, Niac's, Eladar's, etc.

I think if you play this into the epics, though, you're going to really want it for Cocoon.

As it is, I guess those 3 points will be purely spent on anything in the earth tree for more SP or some fluff from EK. Or might wanna go grab the first tier of another meta-magic reduction in another tree if you are willing to sacrifice a couple points here and there. Other than that, all is fine. Enjoy the life.

It's really a shame that wand and scroll mastery is broken.

Are you dead set on pure sorc? taking 2 levels of paladin to get Divine Fever which puts ur Charisma score for saves which at epic level is something that is needed, also u get the Paladin enhancements and spending 4 points in Sacred Defender to get 3 extra Lay of Hands which is powered by charisma can give u nice save for yourself that don't evolve switching to scroll for heal. You would still get lvl 9 spells casue yes Meteor Swarm is awsome but u wont get it for two more levels.

I agree with others that you should first take Empower and max for lvl 1 and 3 then u can focus on Mental toughness or ur gonna be having a hell of a time at start levels. Other option would be to take a couple of points out Con and Intell and add to str so u can run around with a two hander and Masters Touch.

Yes am dead set on staying pure because I want those spell slots and the elemental form capstone and the FULL bonus spell points from SP items. Also I am not going to be a melee with this character, am going to use acid spells and "melt" away my enemies, am not even going to use that Strike attack either, I just want the extra defense/spellpower that EK provides.

Now then, here's my new version of my character (I even manage to spend those 3 points into something else)

By the way, how high can I get Acid spellpower? What items out there will do the trick?

Also, are there any good items for Conjuration and Spellcraft?

Any recommendations?

http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Wizard%27s_Ward_(Level_25) is a good item buyt u gotta get it to drop with what u need. u can also get it at lvl 17

http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Nether_Orb_(Level_27) for conjuration but again goota hope what u need drops

http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Sage%27s_Locket_(Level_26) for spellcraft

As a matter of fact all of the Sage gear that u can get from Wheeloon is gd.

http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Sage's_Ring_(Level_27) +92 potency +8 char
http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Sage%27s_Sash_(Level_26) Wizadry X (250) +35 hit points
http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Sage%27s_Shoes_(Level_27) Conj Focus V, Vitality +40

As for how high u can get your Acid Spellpower (this just a ruff breakdown)

0.75 Acid SP for each point in the Earth Savant Tree 39 * 0.75 = 29.25
You get +10 for each of the Core Enhancements = 60 (also another 20 when in elemental form) 80
Corrosion SP item = 120 (which is most u can get i belive atm)
Empower = 75
Max =150

Total 455

Ofc Max and empower dont show on ur character Sheet when you look it might be about 230. Im sure there is more like adding universal Spellpower but not sure what highest u can get.

If you are going to purchase the new raids, don't bother with Wzard's ward. The new raid is going to have nice stuff for casters. Or just find a nice 138+ Corrosion one-hander of Acid lore 19%.

And honestly, Sage's sash and sage's ring suck. Go with Sage Shoes, find a random Cha +10-11/Wizardry X or Spellcraft +15 ring, go with a Constitution +10/False life +45 belt and you are set.

You can have a much higher Spellpower by the way. My Air savant is sitting at 452 with just the +25 from House J pot. Add 225 from Max and Emp and it will become 677.

Thaumaturgy sticks are your friend, can find tons but the best would be a +10 thaumaturgy of acid mastery/ acid lore in my opinion for what your trying to do, but good luck finding that as there are tons of combinations on them and usually theres some useless spellpower attached to the correct lore or vise versa.

I have a couple less orthodox suggestions:

a) You could drop Empower. It's useful, but when put side by side with maximize (especially if you use the cost reduction enhancements) its not really as good for the SP cost to benefit ratio.

b) You could also drop Ruin. I know a lot of people swear by it; even still, 75 SP a pop is pretty hefty, and will you use it that much?

c) With those 2 feats you could get Toughness and Epic Toughness, if you get your Con to 21 (using +4 tome and just raising it 1 point, that odd number Cha won't help you anyway). That's +80 HP, right there. Then use human adaptability to bump it to 22 for another +28 HP. Altogether: +108 HP.

d) For skills I'd just pick 4: UMD, Concentration, Spellcraft and Balance. With 14 Int, that's really all you have space to keep maxed anyways. Also, try not to end up with half-points in skills by level 20; better to put them into jump or even swim than end up with half-points.

Finally, I might choose different spells, but those can be changed, so take whatever you'll use!

I have a Drow Air Savant that did all of the above and 1st life ended up EE viable. Hopefully your toon will be, too!

I know that some random items would be more superior to the Sage's gear set, but they cost plat and are usually found on the SE (Shard Exchange) which costs REAL money and depending on random chance to acquire them is not something for high hopes. BTW +11 Cha gear does not exist. Although if I do happen to get them, ya I'll use them. Also, thanks for the info on the house J pots.

Thaumaturgy staffs are nice, but I don't like them due to complete randomness of enchantments, I think I'll go for a http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Bronze_Ingot_Arcanum_%28Level_25%29 or something when I get him to epic levels.

A: Not droping Empower (and if active with Maximize, damage from spells goes a long way)
B: This sorc will have tons of mana anyway and Ruin does a lot of single target damage, wonderful against the unusually tough bosses
C: Those feats together will only give 80 HP, that seems useless to me and not worth giving up arcane power in exchange for toughness
D: Those are your skill choices, but am sticking to my current skills.

This sorcerer is for fun, not crazed EE demigod building. Although it would surprise me to see if this thing can handle EEs to a certain extent.

They are usually very cheap and not so rare. You can just go with Cha +10/Wizardy IX-X ring, which is really cheap. Same goes for the belt: stick with a Health +9-10/False life 35-45 and you are good.

As for weapons, +128-138 Corrosion of 18-19% Acid Lore are common enough, just play and you will come across one. That Bronze Arcanum is not that good, it's a 2-hander and you can get better stats on a one-hander.

My 2 cents:

- good call on keeping empower
- ruin probably isn't worth it on a sorc; you have so many options for dps, ruin is just a mana suck (but try it, and if it works for you, great - I love it on my artie, can't imagine bothering on my sorc. And, no, it won't help you on 'unusually tough bosses' who will have 10-20 times the number of HP than your ruin can do. You'll run out of mana before you kill them via ruin. It is good for instant kills and kiting kills - like beating down and kiting the Stormreaver and killing him on demand - but your energy burst will do more damage)
- you're right about toughness. Max the glass cannon! Kill everything!
- you can pull random +11 cha gear at the top levels of the game. Pretty rare, though.

On my current sorc, human, I maxed con and cha; int of 12. Don't regret it at all! More surviability, insignificant decrease in dps.
