First time building a rogue. I've also wanted to use the humble quarterstaff for a while now. Has to be half-elf as that is for this character all lives will be half-elf. Any advice is appreciated.

Some thoughts:

Are you committed to staying pure? I don't think pure rogue is worthwhile for non-Assassins, but I know some people just prefer it. 13 rogue levels seems to still be the sweet spot for Acrobats, even after the enhancements pass (for Opportunists, Improved Evasion, and knockdown immunity). The remaining 7 levels are generally better filled with some combination of monk, fighter, and paladin.

If you're stuck with half-elf for flavor reasons, you can definitely choose a more useful dilettante than Wizard. As a rogue, you'll have UMD for using scrolls -- absolutely no need to waste the dilettante to grant scroll use. Paladin (for saves), Monk (for healing amp), or Fighter (for tactical DCs) are generally the best for a melee build, though all would require some investment. If you just want to slot in a dilettante without changing anything else or investing any APs in it, artificer at least benefits you more than wizard, since it increases the caster level when UMDing scrolls (slightly longer fire shield, slightly more powerful Heal, etc.). I would personally make the investment in CHA to take Paladin dilettante and then invest the APs to take at least the first Improved enhancement tier -- +3 to all saves is worthwhile, and the CHA will also help with UMD and Bluff.

Your INT is way too high for a pure rogue non-assassin. You might have been looking at either pure assassin rogues, who need high INT for Assassinate DCs, or multi-class splits, who need high int to maintain their skills when taking non-Rogue class levels. There's absolutely no need to invest so much into INT -- you're taking useless or borderline-useless skills like Haggle (it makes so little difference -- run Coal Chamber and Running With the Devils once each and sell the Pebbles/Funk on the AH, you'll make up the difference in plat), Swim, Tumble (need exactly 1 point in Tumble), Balance (acrobats get knockdown immunity at level 12), Jump (some is good, but it's buffable and this is too much), Open Lock (you might want to keep this for convenience, but you can still get most locks in the game with gear and only about 5 points invested in the skll).

You'd be much better off cutting INT down to 10 or 12, and using the saved points to boost STR and/or to bump up CHA or WIS to qualify for a better dilettante. Also -- you would benefit greatly from eating at least a +2 INT tome before you TR. If this is a third-life build, you should definitely be able to afford one pretty easily.

Even though I just said you should cut down on your skills, you should at least consider investing in Hide and Move Silently. They can be a lot of fun, and they're especially useful after the stealth overhaul and the nerfing of invisibility. Stealth is a lot less painful with the easy access to Faster Sneaking enhancements.

The first few feats are good -- Power Attack, Cleave, Great Cleave is definitely the right order to start out with. But then you go off the rails a bit.

Weapon Focus is useless to non-Fighters -- one individual point of Attack Bonus means literally nothing. You won't have trouble hitting things; chances are, you won't even bother wearing an Accuracy item. Against the occasional enemy that is hard to hit, just swap in an Accuracy item and turn off Power Attack. Seriously, Weapon Focus is a waste of a feat. You only see it in build posts that take Fighter levels, because it's required for certain Fighter-only feats/enhancements.

Similarly, Power Critical is nearly useless. It's the equivalent of a lowly +2 Seeker item. It's not entirely valueless, but there are just many, many other things that would be better.

The most obvious option is to drop Dodge as well, and instead take all three Two-Handed Fighting Feats. That's a very noticeable DPS increase as long as you stand still while attacking sometimes (so that glancing blows proc). This is probably the best choice. There are enough Dodge bonuses available in the rogue enhancement trees to keep a solid dodge %.

You could also go more defensive, taking Dodge earlier, shifting Mobility into the Heroic levels, and taking Spring Attack. Perfectly viable option, although you'd likely be dodge-capped in light armor; you'd probably want to swap to robes.

Finally, there's the option of going for tactics. This is potentially viable on this build, due to some synergy with half-elf and the acrobat tree. You'd take Combat Expertise, Improved Trip, and Stunning Blow. Take fighter dilettante and spend some APs to improve your tactics DCs. Also take the enhancement in the Acrobat tree to improve all Trip DCs. Also use the built-in Acrobat tripping attack. Could actually work quite well.

Honestly, even taking two Toughnesses would be a better choice than Weapon Focus and Power Critical.

I haven't really looked at the enhancements much, since those are easy enough to respec for just a minor plat cost, and since it's hard to go too wrong while staying pure-classed and focusing on one tree.

Thank you for your input. I will have an updated build of it then in a little bit. Only reason I went with Power Critical is because some friends told me it was very useful so I decided to go with it. I didn't realize it was that bad. Never have taken it before. Thank you. I'd hate to mess up a 3rd life xD

Also, do the enhancements from the Henshin Mystic tree and the Acrobat tree stack? For staff to-hit and damage. I didn't know if they did or not.

I believe that they do stack, the names are different .

I went up to tier 5 in the Henshin tree for the level drain attack...IMHO very helpful.

It stacks. And yes, having some monk makes the build stronger.

If really looking to min-max I'd say 12/6/2 or 13/6/1 split is even stronger adding paladin, fighter, or druid. APs get very tight though.

here's what i done.
STATS: 18 str, 12 dex, 18 con 14 wis
TOMES: +4 all around, +5's when applicable
LEVELS: 3 druid, 5 rogue, 12 monk.
USES: 3 druid allows for fatal harrier, shilelagh, rams might, vengeful hunter, 30% double strike action boost and bestial nature.
12 monk: earth stance for crit multi, and ac bonuses, henshin tree: for movement speed, +w to centered weapons at epic levels, decent reflex saves, (dark fisted so you can use the heal on kill for 100 hitpoints, very useful and i absolutely recommend this for the build and ki concentration for this move alone, along with buffers. it allows you to use light monk buffs like align the heavens.) near constant 25% double strike with quick strike enhancement and more meditations. and +1 critthreat range and multi with staves
5 rogue will grant you sneak attack dice and a stacking 15% QS speed. i recommend you concentrate skill points from these levels into UMD as you will need it later for sireth, as this build requires you to be lawful neutral, and sireth is good aligned (32 umd check) this will also allow you to use various wands for buffs.
FEATS: Power attack, cleave and greater cleave, thf feat line, imp crit. bludge. others optional, i took dodge ( my toon is level 20 on second life with a 21% dodge bonus) and empower healing ( for those party members that aren't around to recieve your on-kill heal and use of cocoon which is affected by it).

i've seen some people go the other way around in terms of druid and monk. reserving 5 monk levels at least for top tier enhancements. it allow use of body of the sun ( which is a fort save, so you won't have to worry TOO much about it's DC, some second hand healing and various buffers and harmful spells, along with longer lasting shilelagh. the top build is what i use. i highly recommend it as i solo just about every quest, some EE's, and support every single melee class while dishing out a ton of damage. as orclush sits right now, he deals 90-130 damage at level 20 (not in the right ED either, and not using sireth) by the time i'd have sireth, and using LD to it's max potential, i will have a critical threat range of 14-20 (sireth has 18-20, imp crit for 15-20 and henshin for 14-20) and a x9 multiplier on 19-20 (depending if the LD multi for bludgeoning works on sireth, as it's a bludgeoning based weapon type, but deals slash/pierce damage) x7 14-18 rolls. and should be dealing 100-160 on a regular hit. all that topped of with fatal harrier running? well, you a damn formidable dps support for other melees c: hope this helps you.

i should add in there my reflex saves arent too well. but when i use GH, uncanny dodge and in water stance, i push a nice 44 (earth stance, which i main in only allows for 33 when not using uncanny dodge)

i should add that this heal is affected by heal am, but not spell power. with pdk gaunts, one or two shintao core abilties, and a ship buff, you're getting a nice 150 a heal off this, going human with the 20% hamp mod would get ya to about 180-195 a heal. it's very useful, and keeps the clerics temper-tantrums off you, and ease off on the melee toons around you. it has a 15 second cool down. and trust me, you wont need it too often with the build, 25% dodge and finishing off with 80 armor class will get you a long way. i just use it constantly fr other melees in group.

Personally on this build I Would max Dex since acrobat gets dex to hit and damage with Dex.

I did a TR Life as a Sadar Kai Rogue.

13 Rogue (Opportunist and Imp Evasion)
6 Monk Stances and +1 Extra Crit with Master / Grandmaster of Forms Earth
1 FvS (Spell Points and Divine Might)

I forgot my stat distribution, but I think I had 14's in most everything. It was probably the most fun life I ever did. Full Traps skills, Monk stuff, amazing attack speed and a decent amount of healing (via Cacoon and Emp Heal)

I'm considering TRing a character just for that build to stay in. With Sireth, it was way too fun.
