Seriously? When did the bards of ddo say "we want a gimp fighter/ranger for a prestige. We want it without all the extra feats of fighter and without the few niceties of ranger. We want a rubbish SA die step, an evasion that never works except on a 20, and most especially, we want a shield in our off hand so that we can negate any positives to our DPS"?.

The absolute **** that turbine serves up to the bard community is disgusting.

indeed. we havn't seen anything yet.. just heard a rumor that there MIGHT be a bardic swashbuckler PrE in the works.

that being said.. most other classes and prestiges have not translated exactly into DDO, this one will be no different, and while "a shield in our off hand so that we can negate any positives to our DPS" certainly does not sound good... considering the effects of multiclassing, imagine instead a rogue-splashed bard who started with a 12 or 14 int for trapping dual wielding rapiers and adding their int bonus on TOP of their str bonus to their damage... who also gets weapon finesse for free, so they don't have to blow one of their limited feats on it. is it uber? no. is it cool? yes

will i do it? and make it work? yer darn right i will!

As long as they don't make it yet another PrE that requires a shield...just because it has BUCKLER in it's name doesn't mean it wields one.

Hopefully they get some inspiration from this PrE Dashing Swordsman (http://oots.wikia.com/wiki/Dashing_Swordsman) (I can't find the original PnP version because WOTC hates sharing but this is fairly close)

Swashbuckler would be appropriate as a bard enhancement tree, but I do hope they add an "Evasion" enhancement somewhere.

not so long ago I did make a comment about maybe having a kiund of charisma based swashbuckler would be nice for bards to have.
I am then naturally overjoyed to hear that turbine will do their best in this direction.

With the new PrE system, it would probably be simpler to make a Swashbuckler / Duelist PrE, then attach it to both ftrs & bards.

This would've been a nice addon to EK to give us, say, perma-Haste, Incorporeality (it's concealment in the PnP PrC, but that seems rather unnecessary on an arcane), and/or offhand proc bonuses. But pretty much anything would be an improvement over the actual tree.

Don't we already have a a PrC gear(poorly) for melee. There are some many good PrCs to choose from

Sublime Chord - Song of Arcane Power perform add to spell DC bards can get lvl 7-9 spells

Fochlucan Lyrist/Lyrical Thaumaturge Arcane or divine plus bard hard to implement but would be nice

Siren CC songs Reverberation = sonic attack using songs that can have added effects fear, feeblemind, flesh to stone and death.

If you need another melee you have so many to choose from Bladesinger, Storm singer, Duelist or Shadowdancer.

Honestly, right now I'd settle for a "CHA-to-dmg with bard weapons" option in one of the current PrEs. That inc. rapiers & short swords, so it would work with two of the best 1H weapons (Balizarde & Celestia); and it gives pure Spellsingers more options than just eElyd (http://ddowiki.com/page/Epic_Elyd_Edge).

I don't think they will go with the class Swashbuckler even if that was the one Rowan mentioned.

After all it does not really mix well with bards at all.

The Dashing Swordsman however ... well that would be awesome! (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0392.html) :)

Cha to dmg might open some cool spellcasting/melee hybrid builds that are can pull their weight. Aaaand it has expanded Crit Range.

Way better than lousy Int to dmg. Although there is a danger that I will constantly quote Guybrush Threepwood when fighting in that Pre :D

Come on devs, make it happen. Bards could use some Awesomesauce.

We all know that "soon" in Turbine language means "some time in the next 5 years. Maybe. Ok, well definitely some time before you retire from the workforce."

Well he said:

"I almost want to call U22, the pirate update at this point. Its airships. It's potentially a bard Pre: Swashbuckler. Its Three-Barrel Cove ..."

So IF we get it, we might not have to wait too long. We just have to convince the Devs, not to drop the idea ;)

It's my understanding that if we want the devs to follow through on an idea we should complain loudly about it and do everything we can to discourage it, short of a three day dance party on the Wayfinder market bridge! :P

You can already do that with a PDK. I'm playing with one now in epic levels and it's quite interesting to be able to cast spells to some degree of effectiveness and not be completely embarrassing in melee. I picked up a LR +1 heart out of a random loot drop recently, so I LR'ed the fighter level back out.

The really unique part about this toon is that it really is a jack of all trades, and by picking different EDs, he can actually become pretty good in one area (defense, offense, healing, CC) although it's not really too great for EE as you really need more than one of those things, and you need pretty spectacular saves. Also, the DCs for spells like disco ball really can't be raised high enough to work with any reliability in EE no matter how hard you focus on raising them. This toon does have the wiz and fvs pls so the spell pen is pretty good even without feats. This makes Otto's Irresistable a must have. And I learned a neat trick... while doing ETRs, my first life took Spell Focus and subsequent DC modifiers from Magister that require Spell Focus as a prerequisite. In the next life, I focused more on melee so skipped the Spell Focus feat. But the Magister ability was already chosen and it could be twisted. It was nice getting some DC boost without spending the feat since bards get NO extra feats to play with and almost no DC boosts from enhancements or Fatesinger.

At any rate, being able to focus on cha and getting bonuses to cha skills, combat, and spell dcs, makes for a really well rounded toon. Great fun to play, even if I had to stay in hard difficulty levels. One of the advantages of cha based damage is that the end game is rife with casters spamming all kinds of str draining spells, and those had no effect on combat with a cha based bard. The only quests that drain cha are the IQ quests, and I generally avoid those with a bard anyway. ;) The only disadvantage is that there are no temp boost bursts to cha like having rage for str. So the melee damage for cha based is slightly less than with a str based bard. The trade off is slightly more useable spell casting. And you can pick the ED for the group/quest to boost what you want. Blitzing in Dreadnought is always pretty effective, especially solo. I like Fury in groups because it's easier to pick specific targets to get melee burst damage on... not nearly as often as a well run blitz, but it's very hard to keep blitz going in a group of monks and spellcasters clearing rooms before I can even take a swing. You can even make sentinel work as defensive cc tank. Or Fatesinger/Magister/Draconic for the best cc you can get out of a bard. In fact, this toon is the only toon that can level in any destiny sphere and still be useful... I mean from a bard's view of useful that is. :)

tl;dr Yes, cha to attack and damage is a very good thing to give any bard a chance not to embarrass themselves with a sword.

Well to be fair the devs do seem to be shaking up how things are done so nothing is certain at the moment

You can already do that with a PDK.

So ALL bards which wish to do what bards do (be jack of all trades) must be PDKs...this is a game of options it's what makes it popular...both EK and Swashbuckler (or Dashing Swordsman) should get INt/Cha to attack & damage to allow for more variety...even if its only for a handful of weapons...and neither should require a shield for anything

unbongwah

You can already do that with a PDK.
That's great `n all, except I've got a human pure bard I don't want to TR; and Cormyrian Training doesn't work with rapiers, which is what all her best weapons are. :( As is so often the case, I ask for new features based on what I want, but try to present my ideas in ways which makes it sound like I'm trying to help the community as a whole. ;)

Alternatively, I'd like a way to add Divine Might w/out a cleric/FvS splash so I can stay pure, either an ability in the bard PrEs or maybe as a Twist from one of the Divine EDs. After all, you can add TU, LoH, and Smite Evil via Unyielding Sentinel, so why not squeeze DM in there or Exalted Angel?

It's not as though I expect to give all the monk / kensei builds out there a run for their money; just want a few ways of boosting melee DPS a bit on CHA bards.

Personally I'd rather seem them create some sort of hybrid prestige classes that require levels from two different classes or power sources (ie. Martial or Primal) allowing for prestiges like Sacred Fist, Arcane Trickster, etc.
Interesting idea, but in practice I think it would make an complicated, poorly-balanced system even more complicated and poorly balanced.
