View Full Version : The Monk Trip

Can a (pure) monk develop a meaningful trip DC? I have a character I think of as my 'tactical build', wondering out loud if I can get his trip to a meaningful level.

Trip DC is 10 + STR mod (+racial + FTR past lives, + weapon/item mods + enhancement/destiny mods).

10 base
15 (I figure ~40 STR for a monk. If you are going for tactical, level ups are into WIS, so STR will not be ultra.)
6 destiny twist
10 item
5 combat mastery
3 past lives
3 dwarf/wf

Maybe around DC 50 is possible.

If your wraps are stunning, can you get the +10 from another slot?

It's a dex save, maybe 50 is good against casters, use Kyukundo against melees. Spam the fist whenever it's off timer.

What are your thoughts? Anybody have a good trip with their monk? What's your DC and how do you get there? When do you use it? Any value in epic elite?

If you're in GMOF, that's another 3. WF can wear a blademarks for another 5. Improved Tirp for 3 more. Tactician feat for 2 more. That's 13 you don't have.

My tactics guy has been a Fighter 12 / Monk 6 for a very, very long time. Excited that he's now a la mode - of course, his STR bursts higher for sure, so the DC is better. I've not played him in a while, but his trips and stuns were definitely useful.

You can get vertigo on a ring slot (dun robar), probably better off with shatter though for quivering palm.
combat mastery +5 on a ring or belt or (up to +6 in a cloak slot)

My bladeforged monk also has an epic blademark docent (http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Epic_Blademark%27s_Docent) (+15 vertigo)
