I have browsed the more recent threads and either am blind or the information I'm looking for isn't easily available.

I left around the time the recent expansion was released and now find I have some time to get back into the game.


Generally speaking, I was playing a healbot/caster cleric, did a lot of PUGs, pug raids and some stuff with regular questing buddies.


I'm looking for a build that does the following:

OP healer
Light Damage
Necro focus (or evoc if that's better)

past lives: 1 cleric, 1 wiz

After I TR the wiz life, might go back to cleric or something else.

Would anyone point to threads or share some insight into this?

What is the value of heighten post lvl 20, if any? I understood from lvl 12-20 it's usefulness (esp. for slay living)

These two are at cross purposes, since if you want to be light-dmg-specced, you want light Divine Disciple; but if you want to be Necro-specced, you want dark Divine Disciple.

I prefer Evo-/light-based: leave the instakills to Pale Masters; plus since Energy Drain has no DC check, you can still make good use of it. And since Ellis is covering Necro clerics, I guess I should show the Light Side alternative. :)

I'm presuming you've already done your Arcane EDs and can Twist in both Evo Specialists for +5 DCs; hence why I only take one Spell Focus so I can focus on Spell Pen instead (largely for Implosion + Energy Drain).

For a more heal-specced version, it's basically a matter of redoing enhs, trading T5 DiDi (Flame Strike SLA) for T5 RS (auras), while still having a strong DPS focus:

I started out LG so I had the option of taking a pally splash for Divine Grace; pure vs splash basically boils down to "+2 Spell Pen & capstone" vs "big boost to saves."

Another option for a light DiDi is a FvS 2 splash, just like all the Fire Savants are doing these days and for the exact same reasons: namely Scourge + Just Reward + Smiting from AoV (http://ddowiki.com/page/Angel_of_Vengeance_enhancements). You'll need 9-11 APs for AoV, though, so that has to come out of DiDi and/or RS to pay for it.

Word of Balance is also a pretty nice single-target spell for CE/LE mobs; and it's Evocation w/Spell Pen check, so one more reason to stay pure on a light DiDi build.

I don't think I understand your question.

Heighten is totally useless at, say, level 2, barely useful at level 3, and gradually gains in power to it's full value at level 17 (or whatever level you get your highest spell-level at for those other than Cleric/Druid/Wizard). It stays at full DC-boosting value all the way up to level 28 (or whatever they change the level cap to).

At the level you mentioned, 12, Heighten is only giving you +1 on Slay Living. At levels 17-28, it's giving you +4 on Slay Living.

So what you are saying is that if I want high Necro DC's, I have to sacrifice light damage boosting enhancements?

The Divine Disciple enhancement tree forces you to choose between Light and Darkness when you first take the tree. Then, many enhancements within the tree only have certain options available based on that initial choice.

The Necro-DC-boosting abilities require Darkness, while the Light spellpower ones require Light.

I'm getting ready to TR back into a Cleric shortly. Personally, I think I'm going to go Light for levels 1-10, so I can use the Light SLAs and not have to rely on crappy melee so much, then re-spec to Darkness at level 11, once I have Blade Barrier for killing crowds.

Even if you pick Darkness, though you can't directly boost just Light spellpower, you can still boost universal spellpower.

Same for the crits.

As a general rule, light side is the undisputed king for levels 1-10 for the light slas. Once you get blade barrier it's mostly moot, and then once you hit 20 you get all the spells (both light and dark) which are better than fully meta'd slas even without using metas on the spells, so at 20 just pick whichever side you want to focus your DCs on.
