View Full Version : Trying to build a solid EK with DPS, survavibility and high casting capabilities

Hi,

I am thinking on TRing one of my toon for its 3rd life (after 2 previous monk lives, not pure ones) ... and I want to try for him a melee caster one, based on the new EK tree ... I had a deep look in the forum for ideas that would suit him, took a lot of different information and advises, and finally come to this idea of build = a drow wizard 17 (PM + EK) with a Monk 3 splash (Ninja Spy), fighting centered with 2 short swords (I have very nice shortswords already, including a Lit 2 GS one).

I designed the following path-forward, paying attention to the Heroic level up (I personally do not like perfect builds at level 20 that are terrible to play until you reach the "Golden 20th level").

And it should indeed be quite easy to level up with this build as =

- you will fight with 2 shortsword, centered from lvl 1
- you will have nice saves and evasion from level 2
- you will fight with you dex bonuses from lvl 3
- you can buff yourself from lvl 4
- you can cast web from lvl 6, Fireball from lvl 8, Firewall from level 10
- you can be in Vampire form from lvl 9 and use your death aura to heal from level 10
- you can be in permanent tenser from lvl 12 (same lvl when you'll gain ITWF and can equip your GS weapon ... it will rock)
- you can be in wraith form from lvl 15
- Master of form at lvl 18 and Grandmaster at lvl 21
- you'll have access to the wizard 9th level spells
- very nice dodge values, especially at high lvl with the right gear, combined with incorporability from wraith form.

I have almost the exact same build currently around level 10. Only though I had differently was tier 5 in PM for improved shrouding. Bumps your wraith form to 35%,incorporeal which I think is better than the tensors.

It's bugged. It bumps your wraith form to 30% instead. Both your buffbar and effects chat report 30%, and I haven't seen any testing yet that proves they are wrong.

Hmmm....that's something to think about, still improved shrouding also gives +2 to dex as well which for a dex based build helps to hit, damage, and reflex save. I still think it might be worth it.

How's this build going? What level are you at?

I did not TR yet, i am waiting my 20th Shroud completion to be able to wear the 2 greensteel items I have crafted for this next life ... but I had a drow lvl 9 in stock (1st life) i have LRed her to test the build ... she is now lvl 12 and it rocks, i do quests in group and it is very smooth and easy. And my 3rd life toon will be even more efficient as he will have better stuff / be more optimized.

I think it is a good and fun build, with a good mixing of spells and melee.

My main concern about this build is where you get your healing from until lvl 9 (Vampire). Are you relying on a Cleric/FVS hireling, or only playing this build in groups with a healer?

Well, starting lvl5 you would get blur and false life, lvl7 displacement, so there is plenty in ways of dmg migitation early on.
Healing pots might be enough between fights, or pocketcleric if you are stingy.

How's this build going? What level are you at?

Hi,

Here are some precise data. I am at lvl 12 at this time (I play 3 TR in alternatively)
This build works very well ... it is fun to play, easy to lvl up in Heroic elite, it has very good survival ability (heals himself via Death Aura + 22 SR + 13 % dodge and 20 PRR + evasion and nice saves + 45 AC in Wind stance).

Fully equiped and self-buffed + Wind stance, at lvl 12, it gives =

- 33 DEX and 31 INT
- 236 PV and 835 SP
- Saves +21 / +26 / +22
- +10 % speed attack and + 9 % of doublestrike
- dmg + 11 due to dext +1d6 acid + 1d6 poison + what the weapon brings (I am equiped with a GS shortsword Lightning II and a holy paralysing shortsword) ... that rocks
- 120 spell power (without maximize) for fire spells (I do cast a lot of Firewalls and Fireball to support my DPS)
- summoned creatures and skeletton knight to support me

And this will progress again with the next levels (permanent tenser + wraithform + improved stances yet to come).

Yep I mainly play in groups ... simply because it is the way I like it. When soloing in early lvls (no more needed now), I always had a Pocket healer and a pack of 100 pots (best possible ones for my lvl). Sincerely, Healing never was a concern due to the buffs spells and high survivability of the build.

Cool build. I am currently at lvl 7 and having quite a good time. I am also just back to ddo after a long time away and have a few questions (apologies if they are noobish!).

1. Can you give some guidance on enhancement progression? I've gone ninja spy first and then PM (no points in EK at this point). That means at lvl 7, I can fight in Zombie form (for the extra survivability + self-heal), although attack speed is only at 90% (wind stance buff + zombie penalty). Pretty survivable, but I dont know if its optimal, passable, or just plain stupid.

2. Why the 1 point in Henshin Mystic for Riddle of Fire? I couldn't discern the benefit (aside perhaps from Wall of Fire utility post lvl 10).

3. For leveling, Skelly pet or no Skelly pet?

4. What are your thoughts on Insightful Reflexes instead of Augment Summoning at lvl 3? Worth it for leveling?

Thanks for the fun build. I've always really wanted to like DDO and then get completely overwhelmed by the build options. I appreciate the guidance!

Nice build! I was thinking of getting 3 levels of rogue for trapping and going with a staff instead of duel swords. Are there any benefits of monk I would be missing out on? thanks!
