View Full Version : Commendations of Valor should drop in some of the harder to get to optional chests.

SO over the past week I have put some though as to how Turbine decided to implement COV's and their goals by making those decisions. To me it seems they want to "encourage" people to run quests that are not as popular and slow down the Veteran TR grinders who have system they like to follow and can do it fast. Here's my proposal:

Add a decent chance, say 33% scaling with difficulty to loot a small amount of COV's (say a third of the end reward amount) out some optional chests in dungeons. Make it either require multiple party members - say a high search hidden door, or difficult to pick lock or trap disable, a bard performing similar to the dancing rare in SH..etc, etc. There are lots options that can create unique situations - many of which could be drawn from current explorers already live.

This allows those ywho prefer to break everything, stop and smell the roses and take their time, a bit more incentive and reward for their preferred play style while not really punishing the zergers who are in a Vcomm/minute mind frame. (But if they wanted to, they could slow down and pick up couple of extra Vcomm, especially if it give them the opportunity to get to 4200 without another run).

Just an idea I had. Obviously you'd have to work out the details but in my mind it opens the options up on acquiring Vcomms while giving the RP and dungeon crawlers more to look forward to. All the while not impeding those who wish to move quickly thru the quest and onto another.

Good idea? Bad idea?

stuff in chests can be assigned to others. multiboxers would rejoice. also, we would probably see LFMs like we see for Devil Assault now and then, "free loot, please pass comms"

That's understandable, but with a ~30% chance to loot 1/3 of the comms that you would receive in the and end reward (those numbers a arbitrary and could change), your not going to really see a large increase in the collection ratio. As it sits with your DA analogy:

Person says free loot, pass token. The on average might get 4 tokens. Or 1/5th the amount needed to obtain a HHoW (20 tokens).

In my proposal you only have a 30% chance to even see if you get a Vcomm, your not guaranteed anything. If you do, you only get a third of what you would as an end rewards. SO say you get 18 Vcomms from and end reward. With 5 players (who probably all won't see comms in the chest), all transferring them to you, you might, probably not, but you might get 30 comms which is 1/140th the amount you will need.

There's a large gap between receiving 100% chance of getting 1/5th the amount of a HHoW and a 30% chance for 1/140th the amount for a EHoW.

It's supposed to be a bonus for going after the "harder" optional and a way to give something to those who don't blaze thru quests for end rewards and not a means of farming. While a select few might be able to scheme a way to farm it this way, it will be a very, very small subset of players.

Sure, other ways to get comms would be appreciated. Small amounts should sometimes drop in explorer area chests as well. I'd definitely like to see the existing comm rewards be autogranted; to me it's not really acceptable that I will basically never pick any other reward option except the comms. Maybe autogrant the comms and sometimes have a small number of additional comms (not as much as the autogrant) show up in the reward list - small enough that you'd rather take a legendary guild reward or a major mem pot or a phat loot item if one of those was in your reward list too.
