View Full Version : Need some help to build a palemaster henshin mystic

Hello. U19 is just out, and I'm planning to TR my lvl 25 cleric/monk within a few weeks. As I picked up Sireth some time ago, I came up with the idea that I'd like to build a quarterstaff monk for her next life. And, I've seen some awesome palemaster monks out there, so what I'd like to do is 2 fighter/ 6 monk/ 12 wizard, henshin mystic quarterstaff melee.

I want wizard levels for self healing and buffs, monk and fighter for melee. I'm not expecting this to be an op end game build, just something to have fun with and see how it goes.

But, as I've never played a pm or a pm monk before, could you advice me a bit on starting stats, at what level to take what class and maybe what feats would be good to have?

Skill points I would put in concentration, balance and UMD, at least.
Feats I'd like are at least thf and cleave, greater cleave.

This would be a 2nd life toon, so 34p build.

I'd suggest at least considering 2 rogue instead of 2 fighter, because if you're going quarterstaff the first two tiers of thief acrobat give +15% attack speed with quarterstaves (stacking with haste, I hear) and a +25% doublestrike proc attack.

Thank you. That's a good idea. I just need to figure out what feats I need, as taking rogue instead of fighter will lose me 2 feats.

Which undead shroud do you plan on using? With 6 monk you can take a little of the ninja spy for the shadow fade (incorp). Zombie makes you attack slower. Vampire on the other hand now gives neg levels with melee attacks, along with the life gain on hit. I didn't do the figuring to see if there would be the AP for it, but it sounds kinda fun :). Let me know as your ideas for the build progress, I might steal it for a life ;P.

Seems like vampire may be the best choice, but it is likely I will use zombie until I have the points and levels for vampire. I may also take wraith if I have the points for it, for situational use. I have not looked that closely at the enhancements yet, so if I'm not too lazy, I could test this build out on lama before making it live. :)

Does vampire shroud still give you 4x light damage? That might be of importance in some dungeons.

At lvl 12 you can get imp shrouding that lowers the damage to 200% in line with the other shrouds.

So, I had a look at my build idea on the character planner and here's the quick draft. Over all I think it looks ok, I may need to rethink some of the feats and their order. What do you guys think? I did not pick a lvl 24 feat, as the planner does not seem to have all the epic feats. I picked diehard, as I couldn't think of anything better at that level, and at the levels when I had more skill points than I needed, I put them a bit randomly. I don't plan to do traps, so I wanted concentration, balance and UMD.

Yeah, you can manage to get Vampire at level 6, where as wraith requires level 12 now. (so that would be more end game for you, and as you said situational). :). There is the Improved shrouding which reduces the light damage vamire receives, and a stance that reduces both light and negative energy you receive. That stance of course would be on in battle, and turned off for topping yourself off. All in all so far its looking rather fun. :)

I'm still coming to grips with all the differences that U19 brings, but won't investing in the Spellcraft skill improve your Henshin Mystic capabilities as well as your spells?

Also, why are you taking Wizard levels, is it to get the shroud and self-healing or is it for the spells? If it's just for the shroud, why invest six levels you don't need when you could be getting six levels of Monk. I don't know if the trade off is worth it, it would need some thought.

If it's for the spells. Wiz 11 will give you 6th level spells, while Monk 9 brings Improved evasion. Well worth considering. You give up access to Shroud of the Wraith, but as you were not really planning on using that anyway, it's no real loss.

I only ask because i was also looking at palemaster henshin mystic and came up with exactly the same level split as you, but now i realise that My Monk levels can get me Shadow Veil, which makes the need for Wraith form obsolete (I don't think they stack, but I am asking around to find out).

Someone has confirmed that these don't stack, so It is a bit of a waste to push for Shroud of Wraith when Vampire Form+Shadow veil does pretty much the same job (and in some ways is better). The only decision is what level spells do you want to stop at: 3rd?, 4th?, 5th? or 6th? That will determine how many levels of wizard you get.

Let me know how this works out for you, Micki. I don't do multiclassing myself, but I'd love to point pure Henshin Mystics to this thread from the Monk guide for advanced options to boost spell power and diversity.
