My suggestions for changing Protection tree to Warpriest tree.

Core:
Sanctuary - Change to a stance and +10 Sacred bonus to Physical Resistance
Enhanced Sanctuary - Change to +10 Sacred bonus to Energy Resistance
Ultimate Sanctuary - Change to +2 Sacred bonus to Saving Throws
Protector - Add passive +1 to hit and +1 damage with Deity's favored weapon.

SLAs:
Swap Divine Favor for Close Wounds
Swap Prayer for Command
Swap Aid, Mass for Prayer
Swap Divine Power for Stalwart Pack

Other:
Drop Efficient Metamagic for (NEW) Divine Strength(pick a name).
Divine Strength (passive) 2AP - Divine Strength grants a +1 to hit and +1 damage with Deity's favored weapon.

Swap Pick One: Attack Boost or Damage Boost for Trap Finding.
Swap Trap Finding for Awareness if you want to keep Trap Finding.

Change Energy Resistance, Armored, and Light Guard to 1AP per level.
Change Grant Light Guard to 2AP per Level.
Change Attributes to +1 STR or +1 WIS.

These suggestions do not require a complete rework of the tree and adds some offense abilities to it.

The SLAs are more combat oriented.
Sanctuary is changed from a clicky to a stance at 1/2 effectiveness.
+2 to hit and damage with Deity's favored weapon.
+2 maximum to STR (+1 to hit and dam, +3 with favored weapon).
Attack or damage boost added.
Energy Resistance, Armored, and Light Guard for self cost less AP.

Options for balancing:

Make all Grants cost 2AP.
Make Divine Strength x2 or x3.
Protector swap STR for WIS.
Swap Defense boost for Attack or Damage.
Keep Light Guard for self at 2AP.

Edit: New announcement from ProducerRowan (https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/420038-Closed-Beta-Enhancement-Updates#post5037540) about Warpriest tree.

While I don't agree with all the changes you've suggested, I could not agree more that the protection tree should be changed to a warpriest tree.
if I were to choose between your version and the existing one, I'd go with yours without hesitation.

please devs, change the tree!

I agree with what you're trying to accomplish, but not 100% with the implementation. The protection tree leaves much to be desired, but there is no need to scrap it to add a warpriest tree. Keep the protection tree (and hopefully buff it later while keeping the theme intact) and just add the warpriest tree as an extra tree alongside it. With the way the tree system is set up, there's no reason to completely scrap a tree. It may be weak, but that is something to work out with balance changes. I'd rather have 2 trees than 1, even if 1 is hardly ever used. It's still more options.

In my opinion no one needs protection tree as it is now. And we've begged for a warpriest PrE for a long while...
Please, make us happy, and don't forget divine might.

If they did something like this, i would expect it to be with favored souls. They don't have a third tree now, and they are supposed to be identified more with being offensive.

Thank you all for your comments.

I do not know what kind of time line the Devs are looking at. Is the release time set in stone or flexible. That was my main reason for making my suggestion the way I did. Some quick easy changes that could help both melee favored souls and clerics since they currently share the Protection tree. I would like to see a War Priest tree built from the ground up myself for both clerics and favored souls with slight differences for each.

Divine Might has been suggested.

Does anyone else have any suggestions for either a modified Protection tree or a new War Priest tree to help melee favored souls and clerics?

- Release seems to be set in stone : with the expansion.
- Protection wasn't changed after the first pass, despite the global hostility to it. It means that the Dev in Charge want's it that way and Will Not change it.

Those were my thoughts about the tree when I made the suggestions.

A few easy (I would think - not a developer here) changes while keeping the core of it intact.

Don't forget the enhancements involving the "Wary" buff (I can't remember the name atm). Low number of uses for a very marginal effect of 1 AC per stack for only a few seconds. Maybe replace it with more spell points or a quicken metamagic enhancement.

Favored Soul and Cleric: We will be replacing the "Protection" tree with a melee-focused "Warpriest" tree, likely in the first patch after expansion launch.

So remember this folks when you're saying stuff like "they never listen" just sayin'*

* disclaimer I will disavow ever making this post if they never do the above "after the expansion"

well the name is changing to Warpriest

Closed Beta will be launching at the end of this week (Lammania will close shortly to support that).

If you pre-ordered Shadowfell Conspiracy and registered your key in early to mid June, you can expect an email invitation soon. Invitations will continue for later rounds, with priority for VIPs.

Thank you for all the feedback during this enhancements preview! We will spend the Beta period focused on fixing bugs and improving the enhancement trees in general, but have two major changes already underway.

Favored Soul and Cleric: We will be replacing the "Protection" tree with a melee-focused "Warpriest" tree, likely in the first patch after expansion launch.

Sorcerer: Sorcerer will get a new, additional enhancements tree later in the year (likely U20).

I'll save the details for Vargouille or one of the other designers to dig into.

Alert and Cautious. +1 AC helps a little, but does not do much with the new combat system. Throw in the fact that maybe it will happen and it does become one possible to replace.

Optimistically looking forward to checking it out after ProducerRowan's announcement. (https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/420038-Closed-Beta-Enhancement-Updates#post5037540)
