View Full Version : Two quick questions

First, a little background.

My main when I was VIP was a dex based monk, leveled up as a light monk then LRd to dark when I hit 20. Then I slowly lost interest and stopped playing, movin on to other things, including absolutely no computer gaming (for a short time)

I've recently returned and been trying to catch up. One of the things I've heard/read is that dex based builds are for the most part trash now with a nerf to paralyzing/stunning/effects based weapons.

With that in mind I'm contemplating a LR on my monk, to either a ninja spy with full void strikes or a shintao with full void strikes.

The first question is both builds are tight, almost no extra abilities and limited healing amp compared to what I have now, are they workable?

The second question is monk DCs, what wisdom to you have to get to for about 50% effectiveness in epic elite? The two builds mentioned above don't have room for alot of stat boosts unless I drop even more healing amp so I was wondering if the DCs would be high enough to be worth trying.

Fortunately as long as I don't plan on switching from light to dark it will only be a enhancement switch to move into/out of having the void strikes...

Thanks in advance for any comments/advice...

If by "DEX based" you mean using Weapon Finesse, yes, don't go down that road. A superior DEX for good Reflex and some AC is a great idea as your Reflex fires off successes for Evasion, Dodge, concealment and incorporeality, each of these now are independent rolls to miss damage. But pile on the STR for EE fights.

A WIS of 38 or more by EE gives you a much better than 50% stun chance, but likely more. 40 WIS is a better number. Some number crunchers here can tell exactly more.

Healing amp always helps but Epic loot such as the Purple Dragon Gauntlets adds 30% without feats or enhancements, so that's a consideration.

Void Strike is still nice. "Void Strike IV, Mass", officially known as Everything is Nothing, the tier 6 ability in the Grandmaster of Flowers epic destiny, does what Void IV does (without requiring rolling a 20) to a Shroud Part IV circle-wide area of effect.

Not all EEs are created equal. A 40 WIS and twisted in boosts to your Stun DCs will smash through all of the EE Eveningstar and similar content. Moving on to some of the more difficult EE GH content will have a different result.

Really, though, you might want to hold off on LRing for a bit. The Beta pass of the Enhancement Trees will be going on Lamannia "next week-ish". They will have a game-changing impact on how you build your monk, so you may want to get a look at that before you make any plans at all.
