Can someone help clarify what each is used for? I can't figure out which would be best to use for what situation.

What's the difference between the two?

Are they aoe or target?

If I want to debuff an enemy, what should I use?

If I want to remove debuffs from an ally what should I use?

If I want to clear something like a web, blade barrier, cloud, etc, what should I use?

Thanks for the help guys.

Easy way to remember this is greater dispel gets rid of buffs and break enchantment gets rid of debuffs/crowd control.

Be careful with break enchantment, as it'll break charms on mobs too - not necessarily all THAT bad in many places, but was a nasty surprise a while back in what should have been a smooth HoX run when someone used it to try and remove multiple healing curses at once & it caught the doggies :)

Also IIRC though it'll potentially get rid of everything, dispel/greater dispel requires a caster level check, and break enchantment doesn't, it'll always work.

Break enchantment is an AoE.

— It can target an ally (including self).

— You can target a position with break enchantment. I've only gotten this to work with mouse look and only when you have nothing hard targeted.

— It removes all persistent AoE spells immediately, with no caster level check.

— From enemies, it will remove buffs, some debuffs and all enchantments.
— From friends, it will remove some debuffs, curses & all enchantments.

— There is a caster level check for removing effects from enemies & friends.
