View Full Version : Suggestion - FAVOR BOOST POTIONS!

Seriously, I bet if you added Favor Boost potions (5%, 10%, etc in differing durations), they would sell like hot cakes (whatever that means. Hot cakes are pancakes right? I don't really know how those sell). But they'd be popular I think.

I don't think it's a good suggestion.

There is a static amount of favor awarded for a give quest at a given difficulty. Off the top of my head, it is usually somewhere in the 9-24 range for an elite quest. A bonus potion would not work well as a percentage because of rounding, and would probably have to be more of the +1 favor/quest variety.

Keeping track of how much favor was awarded for a quest could cause problems. Did you complete Reaver's Fate on elite for 18 Argonesson favor, or was it w/a pot for 19.8? (Or 19 or 20 depending on how it would actually work?)

Of course, even if those things could be overcome, why? Other than unlocking a few rewards (inventory space, **** buffs, drow, etc) the main reason players chase reknown is for more Turbine points (TP). If Turbine was to develop such a product, they would have to price it so that the cost in TP exceeded the TP a player would generate from using said product.

Regarding hot vs pan, from wiki.answers.com:
...in the Mid-Atlantic Region of the U.S.A... one will sometimes find on the breakfast menu, "hotcakes" in lieu of "pancakes". Traditionally the cake served as a "hotcake" will be significantly thinner, and often much larger in diameter than a traditional "pancake". It is so thin that it can be compared to a crepe instead of a thicker pancake. These hotcakes are so thin they can be rolled up like a crepe. The "hotcake" in this region is no more than about 3/16 of an inch thick, possibly only 1/8", and often served as a much larger diameter, (possibly 10 inches or more) than a traditional pancake. Often large platters are used for serving to accommodate the larger cake; (there should be room on the platter for scrambled eggs and shredded potatoes). Often only 2 cakes are served since being so large in diameter, it makes up for the thinner cake, and therefore 2 cakes make a substantial portion. They typically taste more buttery due to the larger liquid portion in the batter to make it thinner. The batter ingredients possibly use butter in some cases...

The idea of favor pots is a bit messy. Each quest gives a static amount as noted above. To reach the new max favor, you would have to buy a pot and rerun every quest. New favor goals could then be added by Turbine assuming that players use pots. Even if it's not done on purpose, certain thresholds will be reached through pot use. It's not something I'd like to see.

A more user friendly alternative is to simply sell the patron rewards through the DDO store. I have to say I'm completely against the idea, but it accomplishes the goal without the mess of applying a new max favor to each quest which requires a store item to achieve. Some favor rewards like drow, artificer, fvs and vet status can already be bought so it's not completely outside the realm of possibility that rewards like house P buffs, Yugoloth potions and the Purple Dragon gear unlocks could all be in the store at some point. My inner conspiracy theorist already thinks that the Purple Dragon gear unlocks could end up in the store for easy access to players that can't handle elite content but still want the rewards and that they were set at a difficult level to achieve for average players so that it could be sold later.
