View Full Version : Where to go now?

My main toon is now level 16. Some helpful background first, she is one of those instant 8-16 toons. Now at one point, good time ago, I did have a toon to level 15, before I finally accepted it was a lost cause, so I'm not that unfamiliar on that level content, but it has been awhile.

My basic dilemma is, where to go now? I think I've geared her up about as good as can be, from what I've read and gotten advice from players in game is greensteel stuff is about the only way to get any significant improvement. Oh, my build on this toon is a Elven Fighter8/Ranger6/Rogue2, arcane archer, kensai longbow specialist. Can hit like a truck from distance, but is, as elves tend to be, a bit squishy.

Most of what I've gotten so far is that Vale is the ideal place, but that is the one area in which my knowledge is vague, to put it mildly. So what sort of gear is considered essential survival in Vale? A short, but not complete, list of the longbows she currently has. Obviously has melee stuff also, but since ranged DPS is her main game, that's what I'll focus on.

+5 Acid burst/PG longbow
+5 Metalline/PG
+1 Banishing/PG
+2 Corsucating/PG
Ice bow of elements
+1 True chaos/disruption
+3 Pandemonium/animal bane

That's all of them I think, I usually just use her conjured arrows and slap on an imbued effect, acid is my favorite. Also have stacks of other arrows, particularly holy and anarchic.

So which of these bows will prove useful in Vale?

Banishing PG in coal chamber, most of rainbow and running with the devils (do note that PG doesn't work on the most part in running with the devils)

Corruscating of pure good for most of the other quests, swap as appropriate.

For the wilderness: banishing for shavarath side. Highest DPS weapon for gnolls and spiders.

Keep in mind that elementals are also subject to banish, there's actually quite a lot of elementals in the vale as well.

Any ranged (I mean specialized for bows) character should have one of the best longbows for undead Bow of the Silver Flame (http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Bow_of_the_Silver_Flame) since it does bludgeon + Good AND it lowers fortification of undead by 20% (so you and others can crit or sneak attack).
Moreover, that weapon has Silver + Good, which is very useful to bypass DR of Harry in Shroud (http://ddowiki.com/page/The_Shroud).
For Vale this bow is not so important (but will bypass many DR there because of good+piecing), but this bow drops in a F2P quest and since you are also Rogue then you should be able to unlock that chest, but the locked chest is not the only place, it can also drop in any chest of that quest, at least I've seen 2 drops.

This is also one of the best bows for Stealer of Souls (http://ddowiki.com/page/Stealer_of_Souls) quest since Sor'jek (http://ddowiki.com/page/Sor%27jek_Incanni_%28lich%29) has 15/Bludgeon and he is undead.

Since your toon is lvl 16 then you'll also get a good xp while farming that bow on the way. Soloing might be tough though, but since it's F2P quest then finding a group shouldn't be a problem. Anyway, you can at least easily solo farm the first chest (if you can unlock it).

And that bow is BtA, so later you can use it on other characters when needed.

Since you are asking where to go, I can help with that one. You need to go do level 13-15 quests in level order. Do all of them at least once. You will learn all those things you missed by stoning 8-16. You will still get good XP, and you should be able to cope with the content. You will also get some better mid-levelish gear. You should not attempt Vale of Twilight until you get through the level 13-15 quests.

Hey Zee, it's you :)
Your advice is very good, +1 for you.

at lvl16 you should be able to find the following gear:

+6 stat items (str, dex, con for an archer)
heavy fort

also try to get:

greater false life
20-30% striding
paralysing bow

minos legens from the orchards tapestry turn in gives heavy fort and a stacking 20 HP too

the +6 stat items should be on the auction house, even if they have some extra trash on them

heavy fort is a must have, will prevent most criticals from doing any extra damage

the paralysing bow combined with improved precise shot will give you some great crowd control in the vale

and feel free to explore the lower level quests too. those first time bonuses will make sure you get some useful exp out of them. press P and browse through the list of quests you've not done.

Hi,

A paralyser (with the IPS feat) is enormously useful in the Vale.

Pick up a Bow of Sinew from the Madness Chain in the Harbour too. You will enjoy the crits, and it's no liability if you aren't using your spot skill much.

Thanks.

Yes, The Vale would be the next step.
However i would take it easy and just go for flag, maybe even on normal so you can start happy farm Shroud, and then round up the gear.

Some useful and not so hard to obtain items:
Minos Legens (http://ddowiki.com/page/Minos_Legens)
Wind Howler Bracels (http://ddowiki.com/page/Wind_Howler_Bracers)
Fabricator Gaunlets (http://ddowiki.com/page/Fabricator%27s_Gauntlets)

As for interesting bows:
Bow of SInew (http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Bow_of_Sinew)
Bow of Earth (http://ddowiki.com/page/Elemental_Longbow_of_Earth_%28Level_16%29_%28Tier_ 1%29)
Bow of Silver Flame (http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Bow_of_the_Silver_Flame)

Potencially you may be interested in:
parasitic Breastplate (http://ddowiki.com/page/Parasitic_Breastplate) + 10 Reflex Save mod

So basicly:
- Flag Vale and start Shrouding
- Do Harbringer of Madnesss chain for bow of Sinew
- Farm Lord of Dust chain for Silver flame bow.

Potencially look back and flag for some raid, like AtDQ or Reavers Fate.
