View Full Version : Armor-kit Contest

There seems to be quite a few threads going around about armor skins these days,
and a significantly larger number of them in the past.

Maybe Turbine could answer what seems to be a cry from its users by allowing us
to put our foots in our mouths, so to speak. To design armor skins for game purposes.

I'd be willing to sharpen up the old pencils to put forth what I'd be willing to spend
TP's on, and I believe there are many in the community that would do likewise.

Of course Turbine would have a final say and screen everything submitted, I'm sure
terms of the contest would have Turbine "owning" the designs to use as they please.
But at least we the community may start seeing that which we believe to be pleasing.

Thoughts?

+ 1 for the idea.

Not sure I would use the word contest though.

I think it's a fine idea that will never see the light of day.
Turbine seems to be very hesitant to engage in user-generated content of any kind.

I don't see anything stopping anyone from designing their own artwork and submitting it on the forums for consideration. The DDO community has a fair number of extremely talented people that love to do this kind of thing for the game they enjoy.

I vastly enjoyed the faux album covers and the MMOtivational posters. Maybe someone will take the time to draw something up and post it in a thread. I just don't have the artistic flair to do something like this, though it would be a lot of fun to try.

Good idea, but this doesn't require Turbine to do anything other than look at a thread somewhere and implement what they like. For that matter, THIS thread might be a great place to post pics of new armor designs.

It's not all that hard to do if you have the right programs.
I made many banner images for my guilds website, using Daz, Poser Pro, Lightweave, Maya & a few others.
And most of these "skins" are pre-made.
Just change colors & patters, textures, etc, until you get them where you want.
FYI, the new content is developed using these programs now. So expect to see some changes in the future.
Here's some examples of what can be done, in relatively short amount of time, (12 to 20 hours, *I'm an old man, and have no formal edumacation in this)

This next one is 3 years old now, and was a stock armor kit.

Wow, that one is really cool. A far cry better than the cartoonish stuff in game currently. <Sighs heavily...>

Thanks so much for those images. This game could easily be so much more than it currently is...

This is exactly what armor should look like -- good stuff like this.

Now THOSE I would shell out some TP for. Those are sick awesome. No 3 foot high shoulder pads there!

Why can't we have armors like these Turbine?
These are killer.

Please get rid of the cartoony Wow clone wanna-be armors and invest some real effort if you want people to purchase them, because they will if they look anything like this.

I personally like these (http://oldschoolraygun.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/BG2.jpg) armor appearances.
