View Full Version : Fun Melee-based Divine Build?

I had a lot of fun getting my WF Lord of Blades FvS up to 20 pre-U14, and was thinking of playing another primarily melee-based divine. What are people thoughts on the fun combinations nowadays?

I am hoping for something that is fun to level up and yet is still good at Epic levels endgame. I was considering going a Pure Human Cleric or FvS and then using the free LR (Is this still available for new characters in U15?) to change to more caster based if needed, but would love to hear about other multi-classes. I can see a one Fighter splash gets a lot of melee advantages and an extra feat for the loss of one Spell Pen, and a Half-elf Cleric/FvS could just go Fighter Dilly while levelling and then change to a Paladin dilly at endgame for the save boost. Finally a Half-elf 18 FvS / 2 Monk is tempting, but not sure how easy it is to do on a 32 point build.

I have every race so feel free to give any suggestions! ;)

One of the funnest divines I've played so far is my Half-Orc Max-STR Cleric with 1 level of fighter (aka "Hulkacleric"). Take enough feats/enhancements to get Radiant Servant, and the rest either THF feats or STR/melee boosting feats/enhancements (Horcs get lots of them ;) ) The best part is, he can still heal raids/epics with no problems whatsoever. If you have a Torc and Conc-Opp, it's game-over after you hit level 11; you'll never worry about SP again, and only need shrines to get your clickies back...

I've had fun with a dwarf 12fvs/6fighter/2monk (monk levels purely for feats) using dwarf axe & shield while in heavy armour. Feats were toughness, quicken, empower, 2hf line, shield mastery line, PA, cleave, great cleave, overwhelming crit & imp shield bash, i also stuck skillpoints in intimidate so he can act as a relatively good tank (managed to tank epic hard chronoscope effectively).
He has a nice blend of dps, damage mitigation & self healing capability though admittedly isn't stellar at any single feature.
Destiny-wise exalted angel is good for a bit extra spellpower & specialist dps capability, legendary dreadnaught is good for general dps vs. all enemies & unyielding sentinel will be a nice way to boost durability to even act as a secondary tank, depending which role you enjoy best.

I'm eager to find out what will be possible for a heavily-MCed Divine Dwarven Defender like this when we finally get the rest of the racial PrEs and other Enhancement changes later this year (knock on wood).

do a 18/2 fvs/cleric-monk split. better dps than WF LoB + feats and evasion.

start with at least 16 wis+levels, and get stunning fist. apply liberally.

profit.

Great thing about the wis-based stunner clonks and monk/fvs builds is that you get DPS + minor CC + decent casting DCs. My main will be something like this on his final life. Which, due to the fact that I don't have the patience to finish out 5 more casters lives, will likely be his next life.

32 point human wis-based.

16 str
15 dex
12 con
8 int
16 wis
8 cha

feats (10):

tough
stunning fist
twfx3

max
empheal/emp
quicken
heighten
extend or PA

OR go Helf Rogue dilly for the 3d6 sneak dice which you always get on a stunned mob. Yum. But you lose a feat. Doable though.

I've been considering this too.. it certainly looks like it'll have some good possibilities :)

Wow thanks for all the builds. All of these look good so might try them all (eventually). I'll probably start with the less deeply multi-classed ones first to get the hang of it , but should be fun to see who they all compare.

Thanks again!

How about a horc 1barb/19 cleric?

Power attack + usual caster feats

Max wis + level ups, 18 STR & rest into con

Casting damage will outshine the melee, no need for thf feats when you're twitching in & out of blade barriers.

Barb run speed and sprint boost + blade barrier? That sounds like fun times :)

I've long gone with a 17/3 halfling cleric monk with upwards of a 51 Stunning Fist DC. Now priming for whirling steel strike in addition to stunning, in order to take advantage of the new raid longswords.

As a 17/3 monk split, he carries the fists of light, enabling him to provide +25% SP discount (which matters tons) and +2 Attack/Saves/Skills buff with Walk of the Sun.

Stats:
12 str
14 dex
14 con
18 wis
rest dump
+3 Tomes on all.

Before retrofitting for WSS, core feats involve stunning fist, maximize, heighten, TWF, iTWF, gTWF, quicken, emp heal, power attack and toughness for heoric feats.

In my case, I had to trade 3 feats for WSS lately after I identified Tinah - Sword of the Sea as possibly the most orgasmic (potential) ki weapon ever. So if you ever find yourself with the new raid swords, its worth considering it. But that's getting too far ahead of ourselves. Regardless of your clonk split, Stunning Fist is the bread and butter behind what makes these builds fun. Just about the only challenge to it how to fit your casting needs via accessories in order to keep your hands free for a Stunning +10 handwrap.

Having great spell DCs will also provide icing on the cake. In final closing, I've also discovered that a melee clonk is like a child in a candy store when it comes to picking an Epic Destiny. Have fun.
