View Full Version : Guild Airship Bulletin Board.....again!

Well, it's been a couple of updates since I brought this subject up. I've only been suggesting it since U9, so I figured I'd give it a go again. You know what they say about squeaky wheels.......

From a previous suggestion post:

I propose a bulletin board for all guild ships (thanks to Memnir for the original idea). This would provide a much better means of communication amongst guild members than the Daily Message can currently provide.

Some things that the bulletin board could convey include:

1. General rules and regulations set forth by the guild leader and/or officers for all the guild members to adhere to.
2. A small calendar of upcoming guild events such as Guild Raid Night or Quest with a Guildie Day.
3. An area for guild members to advertise items that they would like to give to other guild members for their use. (Our guild is constantly giving items to each other so that we all benefit).
4. Perhaps an area to display helpful hints, shortcuts or links to websites.

I'm sure all you can come up a few more reasons to implement this, as well as a few reasons NOT to. What say you?

(My edits in red)

What I left out of that quote is that it should be a purchasable amenity with it's own hookpoint. Those guilds that use external websites and don't have any use for it don't get the hookpoint. The hookpoint is exclusive and nothing else can go in it.

Before someone mentions it: Yes. I realize there are external websites such as Guild Portal that do all that I suggested and more. That's lovely, but there are guilds, including mine, that would like to have a bit of that IN GAME. Our guild has a spot at Guild Portal and no one ever uses it, including me (and I'm the one who manages it!).

Let loose the Hounds of Discussion!

I like this idea alot, it would definitely help to increase guild activity via events and what not.
Also people wont be so surprised when they get booted from guilds cuz they broke guild rules. I have booted a few people who didnt go to my guild site and didnt review the guild rules and there fore got booted (for breaking the rules multiple times) and were dumbstruck when i booted them. Aka

"such and such tells you" Why did you boot me from guild?
"my reply" you broke the rules too many times
"such and such replies" What rules?
"my reply" their posted on the guild site, have you even gone to it?
"such and such replies" no
"my reply" how long have you been in guild?
"such and such replies" at least x amount of weeks.

I ALWAYS direct new guild members to the website, so there is no excuse for them not to know about the rules. If they have access to the game, then they should have access to the guild site.

C'mon devs if you can put piles of gold into the bottom of chests and make them jingle, you can do this for us.

At least the bulletin board and calendar....PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!

This is a good thing to have no matter what form, external is good on its own but probably overkill.
Technically a simple form of text box would suffice, even a bigger MotD would be an improvement.

For the sake of seeing this done i'd keep it as simple as possible.
We have to consider/remember that there were once plans/rumours of a full guild system that never saw the light.
(talk of which is now buried somewhere in the forum past threads)

A simple tab with a larger text box than what we have for the MotD would be very handy.
Officers can then leave more notes that are surely not the kind of highlights you want for the MotD.
The text box, the tabs and the officer's permissions are already coded in the game.
It'd be like the tabbed box of the player's bio, except being guild only.

The next step would be to let players have their own textbox.
I have always wished you could set a text line like you can do with the friends list, this would be a simple thing.
However for leaving actual notes you need the larger text box.
I'd go with making the guild names clickable in the member list to open a larger text.
It can be in a dialog box or in the tab, both of which are already coded in the game.

If you wan't to take it to the next level add the existing code for officers permission to edit.
It would be mostly for responses or notices rather than moderation.
Anyone requiring moderation can just be kicked out, like it would happen if they abuse the guild chat, etc.

At this point anything beyond this is a luxury.
For the love of god don't make it open myddo, all the woes of myddo i blame on wordpress.
Technically the guild pages of myddo already have the functionality we want here yet is fairly cumbersome to use.
I will definitely be happy with a simple text box than having to go through the current version of myddo with wordpress.
If it comes to that there's actual alternatives but this would be off topic, i'm sure myddo is discussed elsewhere.

while were on the subject of guild improvements i think they should add in a higher ranking system. The whole member, officer, leader thing sorta blows. My guild is a tree based guild, and its nice to have higher ranks for lower ranked members to work toward. As it stands I have to have guildies buy cosmetic gear to signify rank.
Leader, second in command and third in command wear gold skull helms
senior officers wear spooky mask
jr officers wear..well havent figured it out, i was thinking bunny helmet but most probably the secretive hood.

A bit off topic. Let's stay on subject, shall we? ;)

One thing at a time. :D

Yes, this would be helpful. It would not be at the top of my priority list, even if only guild changes were being considered, but it would be helpful.

If they are going to make a guild BB type item it would make more sense to not have it tied into the airship. it would be much simpler have it off the guild tab instead of setting a board.

If the board was on the airship then you'll have to worry about external permissions, as someone people would want to be able to have some non-guildies see certain parts of their board but not other non-guildies. If you make it guild private only then you dont need to have a physical amenity in the first place.

******, Silverwren! I was going to put up my GBB decorations next month but here you go and declare it in August. It's like freakin' Easter - can't figure out when it is without a calender and some sort of spiritual egg timer.

I suggested it be tied to a ship hookpoint for the guilds that used external websites, so that they could take it or leave it. If it were off the guild tab as you suggest, then every guild would have it. Not that this is a bad thing, mind you, but there are some guilds that use an external website and want nothing to do with an in-game guild bulletin board. At least if it's purchasable they have the choice of getting it or not.

As far as permissions go, we already have guild chests, which are useable only by guild members. The same thing would apply to BBs. I don't see this being a problem.

Ah, sorry. My parole officer said I have to bring it up every update as part of my probation, and I missed the last two (U14) because they were all so close together.

By the way, and I should have done this earlier, credit for this suggestion goes to Memnir (see a very much earlier related thread).

We already have other purchasable things that add additional tabs to inventory and bank, so I don't see much problem in adding a permanent guild BB tab that guilds would have to purchase out of the same guild account they purchase airships from.

Not every guild would have the BB tab this way, and there would be no risk of losing any content on the BB when a guild changes airships. Also, this would also make the board accessible from anywhere in the game instead of just on board your airship, and would also make the board available for brand new guilds to purchase before they get an airship.

No need to make it purchasable at all. Simply place another tab next to Members and Rewards on the Guild tab under Social.

Make it so anyone in the guild can write to the board and delete their own messages. The only people who have access to deleting all messages would guild leader and officers.

This would be a FANTASTIC addition for guilds.

OK, you've convinced me. This makes sense considering that we're talking about replacing the Message of the Day with something more comprehensive, and all guilds currently have the Message of the Day at all levels.

Again, since all guilds have the MoD for free, it makes sense that the BB should be free and available to all guilds, all levels.

I would submit though that the guild leaders and officers should have the ability to remove individual messages instead of all or none. If someone posts something inappropriate it can be removed without losing everything.

Good points, you two!

Prince Harry is most unhappy there are no Guild Ship Bulletin Boards yet. He cannot be consoled.

I don't believe anyone was advocating the removal of the MotD...that should still be left in the game. The MotD displays to guild members as they log on, where the BB would require a member to open that tab.

Great Idea.

I'd even be happy to start with if.. the boat had a guild name on it. I thank people for their kind offers to let me use their 5% xp shrine and it would be nice to know who's boat I'm on without asking. Possibly a little name plate above the aft or bow door. "[Such and such] welcomes you to their Guild Ship. Remember to feed the gerbils!" Or tack it on to the OP shrine/kiosk.

What I meant by ALL was that officers/leader would have the ability to delete ANY message. I know that we are constantly running out of space in our MotD by posting announcements.

I was!

But I guess it would still serve a purpose. Anything that improves communication is a good thing in my book.

We seriously need better guild communication tools. The Message of the Day is inadequate even for our tiny guild.
