View Full Version : ui hotbars are sometimes squished

I tried bugging this in-game 3 times tonight, but near as I can tell all 3 attempts failed (redirected to a black screen instead of a "thank you for submitting a bug", and no email confirmation either). I'll try again later.

I can't add attachments, so screenshot is a googleDocs link (https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B2oCUUO_rpG0MDVCekVRb0FpeDg)

Hotbars that are placed in a vertical orientation will sometimes become squished when I log-in; their height is unchanged, but their width is a few pixels less. Attached is a screen shot, in which all horizontal hotbars are fine, a couple of the leftmost vertical hotbars are fine, but all of the other vertical hotbars are squished. This is most apparent with the two cure light wounds spells that are side by side: the red cross makes it easy to see that the spell on the right is distinctly skinnier (squished looking) than the one on the left.

This can be corrected by reloading a saved ui layout or rotating a squished hotbar, but the problem always comes back eventually.

I've had this happen with several characters that I regularly used during the open beta.
- seems to only happen when logging in, not when changing zones
- seems to be pretty random in occurrence
- seems to only affect vertical hotbars
- logging out will preserve a hotbar's squished status (a squished hotbar will never fix itself during a subsequent log-in)
- the specific hotbars affected is not consistent, i.e., it is not always the exact same hotbars that become squished as shown in the screenshot, although the hotbar closest to the edge of the screen (far right) seems to have the problem more often than the rest. The large number of squished hotbars in the screenshot was achieved through successive log-out/log-ins to illustrate the problem more clearly and demonstrate that the effect is cumulative; they did not all become squished during the same log-in attempt.

Cannot be reliably reproduced whenever I desire, it appears random from my limited POV. However, after relogging enough times the problem will eventually recur; sometimes only one log-out/log-in will be enough for the problem to reappear after correcting it, other times it may take a dozen.

Yes they do on log ons... if vetical and on the far left or right sides of the screen.

You have to close the bar then place them back to correct this manualy which is a pain but is a workaround.

I still haven't been able to successfully bug report this in-game (as far as I can tell), hopefully it doesn't go unnoticed.

You don't need to report it ingame to use the bug system, like it says at the top of this very forum you just need to file a report here (http://forums.ddo.com/new_bug.php?).

Just tried that as well, a no-go:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, root@localhost and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

I suspect it may not like my screenshot attachment

I have that problem too. If I attach a screen shot to the bug report I get the blank window with no confirmation after pressing submit. If I don't attach a file, it works fine and I get the "bug submitted successfully" screen. Kinda annoying because the screen shot often explains stuff way better then words do.

ah, another attempt yielded a slightly more useful error:

The following errors occured while processing your bug submission. Please check your entries and try again.

There was a general communication error when trying to upload the file attachment. Please try again.

So, definitely the attachment. I have it down to 99.6 KB in size, that couldn't possibly be too big, could it? Are all attachments just auto-fail?

It's probably just the attachment, I wouldn't worry about attaching it, just describe the problem in detail in the report and leave it at that. This bug is pretty easy to reproduce.

Have had the height and width change a bit on my vertical hot bars against the right side of the screen.

Please give me an option to do this to all of my hot bars :D

I have had squished bars too. I just flip them around and they go back to normal, small annoyance.

No need to close the toolbars, just rotate them and rotate them back.

try moving them a bit further out from the edge of the screen, that should prevent them from shrinking in the future.

on a side note, there is a thread around somewhere that gives an explanation of how to modify your hotbars using one of the files in DDO to the size you want, so whoever wanted to be able to tweak hotbar size, try and find other threads dealing with this issue ^^

No need to close the toolbars, just rotate them and rotate them back.

That ^.

For my sidebars, I usually place 2 verticals on each side of screen. When I've noticed this, only the inner bar of the pair shriveled - which was about the only reason I noticed it.
