View Full Version : Ranger Buff from MM

Okay so basic premise here is that rangers are kind of gimped now and could use a buff.

Suggestion:

Everytime an account reaches X kills (X to be determined later) of a specific mob type that mob is then flagged as a favored enemy, but does not count as an extra favored enemy beyond counting as one if the player does not have any favored enemies already. This mechanic would use the monster manual volumes to track this and require different manuals for different mobs.

Essentially this would expand the effective mobs that rangers favored enemy skills work against in a manner that ties nicely into mechanic that is oriented around killing mobs of a specific type. For rangers it would grant more benefits then others (more damage per hit and possible enhancement increases).

Also, adding the epic feat bane of enemies where every weapon you wield works as a bane weapon against all your favored enemies would be another nice idea for ranger buffage.

Note, this would be a non-trivial increase to ranger dps against less commonly seen mob types but have no effective boost to their dps against most end game raid bosses.

1st: This seems very complicated.

2nd: Rangers will soon be the forgotten class, replaced by Druids. When this happens there will be no need to "fix" or "equalize" anything with regards to Rangers because almost no one will be playing them.

Very true. Need to spend some Dev love on the dying classes.

Dying class? Have you seen the Dervish stuff the dev leaked about in the ENH pass?

Regarding the OP, overly complicated but I guess would be okay. every 10,000 kills or something = FE?

I won't be playing my ranger? GASP!

Yup, dying class.

There's already a thread or two devoted to the discussion of which class to leave out of Shroud raids when Druids become active. Rangers were at the top of the list because they are merely a support class which only benefits the group once every two minutes for 15 seconds (Many Shot) and adds no real buffing power (Mass Camouflage and Mass Longstrider). They can heal, yes, but not very well, even if they max out on those feats and enhancements (like mine is). I was also discussing this with a PuG in Lords of Dust (whilst playing my AA), and we were all in agreement that the Rangers days were numbered. Sad really.

My advice, if you run a Ranger, is to get them to level 20 as fast as you can. Run epiquests with them until the day before the Druid class hits, then TR them into something more needed, like a healer. Then sell all the bows in your bank to the House D weapons vendor. I'll be TRing mine into a human Dark Monk.

Nothing hinky about it, came from either Madfloyd in the big "Let's Talk: Enhancements" thread. Tempests are getting haste boost IV and 100% STR to off-hand attacks.

EDIT: It was Eladrin, and here's the post . . . http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p=4250786&postcount=602

Scroll down and you'll see it mentioned they're getting haste boost and other stuff as well.

That thread was about what class would be left out in RAINBOW raids. That's a raid whith one toon of a class. As druids are the 13th class we no have more classes then raid spots. That is only a concern to the 1% of the players that do things like rainbow raids anyway.

To rangers: Don't play them, I like being unique on my rangers. Like paladin the class is easy to gimp, but not that bad at all. Rangers can be build very versatile and self sufficient. If you are looking for ****** full DPS .. nothing to see here... move along :)

Eladrin said "Tempest, for instance, has the following "granted" abilities currently:" which to me means "They already have these and it's in game now". I could be wrong on this. I don't run a Tempest, mine's AA, and I don't know what area of the forums this link came from. Be that as it may, it kind of leaves Arcane Archers blowing in the wind, because they either currently DON'T get these or WON'T get these.

It may become the case that Tempest Rangers are still somewhat desirable due to their TWF abilities and that Arcane Archers are the ones pushed aside to make room for Druids. Maybe I'll change my mind and TR my AA into a Tempest.

.

I've played 2 of my Tempest characters on beta (lvl 16 & 20)

And they still deal high dps and are as effective in any situation as any other melees.

As for the OP's idea. I like it.
Having a selective (passive) feat and an active temporary bonus is a great idea.
ie, Legend build, spending a lot of time in GH & Vale, a bonus for windlashers (example) after so many kills would be cool, without the need to have that taken as FE feat.
And if the % of kills drops in a specific amount of time, the bonus goes away.

I like this idea.

AND YES, THEY NEED SOME DEV LOVE.

What is this "pushed aside to make room for Druids" nonsense? Seriously that line of thinking just doesn't make any sense.

^^^ Can't wait until, that happens ^^^ Then we can fix melee so we no longer need them, and become a full caster, arty, druid whatever splash MMO.

/sarcasm off

If rangers weren't nerfed in the beginning due to Forumite whining, we wouldn't have to ASK about fixing a class that was deliberately broken so certain classes and or builds wouldn't feel inferior.
Bring Ranger ranged damage (I'm talking about pure rangers and not Bstardized splashes) back to where it should be, or do we have to Pay to play a decent ranged class and/or grinding house C favor. I own Arty so I have a right to complain about the OP of the class.

Let Turbine fix their mistake, and make room for all the classes in game.

0 AP and no feats.

You get these automatically for spending points in the Tempest Tree, taking things like Action Boost: Haste, Two Weapon Accuracy, Slashing Blades, and A Thousand Cuts.

Edit: We've taken a bunch of the Dervish abilities and merged them into the Tempest tree. They were similar enough in nature.

Okay then I have to ask the specific questions. What is the 41 supposed to be? Is that our current tier 3 PrE?

That's the tree related capstone. Your current Tier 3 is at 30 points (level 18 required).

Tempest, for instance, has the following "granted" abilities currently:
