I know, I know... This is a touchy subject, Fight Club and all but take a look at this image:

http://i.imm.io/mRSf.png

That is a full tab of (20) Supply Chests in my inventory and I now have to destroy them every time i run challenges.

I can't open them because they have an ML. That's fine, let me bank them...
I can't bank them because that was your (very silly) fix for [something]. That's fine, I'll sell them...
Nope, can't do anything with them...

I am level 15, I go out of my way to complete challenges at level 20 for 6 Stars and I get screwed?* The challenge lets me enter at 15, why should I not be able to reap the benefits? If anything I should be rewarded more for the challenge! (pun intended)

There are two very simple solutions:

1) Make the supply chest ml check the CHARACTER level, not challenge level

2) Actually fix (gasp) the issue with their banking and allow us to store them in our banks

#1 fixes the issues of lowbies getting free loot by tagging along. #2 fixes the bigger issue

*Don't get me started on how off the XP mechanism for challenges is :(

Cheers

Level to 16? C'mon, don't be THAT lazy....

In all seriousness, this is a player-created problem, one the player should solve. If you don't want to level to 16, then destroy them. Nobody's saying you have to keep them-and why you haven't leveled to 16 anyway is beyond me.

Necro IV is right in that range, Gianthold is there, come 16 you get Vale... etc, etc. Tons of XP in that range. Amrath and Cannith can easily cap you.

I think there's so much XP you could do twice the current limits and be fine.

So between level 1-15 I can't get ANY loot rewards from the high end challenges? How does that make sense? What if I run the epic versions, should I now keep the chests with THOSE minimum levels stuck in my inventory as well? I do not have to be 15 to get these, the lowest I have tried is 10 and that guy also has a tab full of ml16 chests he cannot open... even if I went out of my way to 6Star the challenges on a lvl10...

If I solo eLOB on a level 1 (:p), I would still get loot. I might not be able to wear it, but at least I can bank it, trade it, vendor it etc... it wouldn't be stuck in my inventory for me to only be able to destroy

This has nothing to do with my OP, I'm not complaining of 'not enough xp'... The tidbit at the end is me wishing you had a benefit of running these underlevel, whether it is xp or ingredients I don't really care, just something

Due to the way I play (in terms of the context of time/location) quick challenges are huge for me instead of quests (which I still run, I'm not running a total of 15 lives on the same character through the same challenge... Just throwing it out there. If I recall, crystal cove rewards you for making the challenge 'challeng'ing and going under level (been a while but I think that's right)

The purpose is most likely to prevent people from mass farming crates by putting 5 dummy accounts at the start of the quest (probably Rushmore), having them all get boxes.

A level 1 character in a level 16 non-challenge quest that loots a chest will get masterwork and 20 gold. But the boxes don't work that way.

This is a Turbine created problem, I don't know why they have a ML in the first place. It's like putting a ML on an in quest chest.

I can take a L1 character in most high quests, even if it can't normally access it, and get it some favor and in quest chests.

I don't see why challenge chests should have a ML while quest chests don't.

While I do think it's a player problem foremost, I must concur with the question of why the ML.

Cove was a good example pointing this to me-15's run in 20 for the 5 underlevel bonus. That's how it was designed, in a way-most goods for being 5 levels under.

By this thinking, the chests should be ML 15.

Now THAT would be funny.
Oh wait.. no it wouldn't..

I love their "fix" of the issue. Instead of fixing the problem, they just throw a band-aid on it.

Dev good guy: "Hey guys, there's this one exploit the players are doing.. They just do this thing, and get that thing.

Manager bad guy: Well, we COULD fix that code so it works properly. But instead we'll just make it so they can't do this thing.

Dev good guy: But.. this thing is commonly used! Heck, we even sell this thing.

Manager bad guy: So what?? They can't exploit now.

Dev good guy: But what about the people that legitimately use this thing?

Manager bad guy: Well, they won't be able to exploit either, now will they? Get back to work, we've got deadlines approaching!

Simple solution, simply make the loot in them have the ML, as opposed to the supply crates themselves.
Very silly design choice.

They don't drop +3 TOMES anymore, so the fix to the thing shouldn't be needed anymore?

I don't see why challenge chests should have a ML while quest chests don't.

Quest chests DO have a ML on them.

It's not the same kind of ML; you can still open the chest. But the rewards are scaled to your level if you heavily underlevel the quest.

A level 1 character in a level 16 quest who opens a chest will not get 200 platinum, a +4 holy dagger of deception, and a wand of stoneskin.

They'll get 20 gold, a masterwork shortbow, and a scroll of jump.

This.

This system was introduced to deal with a different exploit (back in the day that plat farming was a non-Turbine thing, the farmers were avoiding ransack timers by 6-boxing one 'real' account with five level 1s. 6 times the # of chests per ransack really adds up).

And that is an appropriate fix. What would not be an appropriate fix is for you to loot a chest but not be able to use, bank, nor sell its contents until you level (especially since challenges can legitimately be ran under loot-level)
