The Righteous effect found on items used to work, but a stealth change in Update 12 completely broke it. It is supposed to give you a stacking +2 attack bonus and +2 damage against evil-aligned monsters when using this weapon, but it does absolutely nothing. The good-aligned benefit still works.


I submitted a bug report as have several others and I want to make sure this gets on the Known Issues list. So come on developers, please let us know what is going on.


Evidence:

In the following picture on the latest Lamania build, I am facing the front side of the portal so there is no flanking bonus. The portal is evil-aligned. I am constantly running while attacking and my only relevant buff was Rage (not really even necessary). My total attack bonus is +11 + 2 from Righteous. So attack bonus SHOULD be +13. My absolute damage range assuming no crits possible is 7-16 + 2 from Righteous. So the real total SHOULD be 9-18 damage. Instead, my running attack bonus is stuck at +11, which is wrong. I am getting rolls of 8 damage, which is below the minimum, and I never roll more than 16 damage. Righteous is clearly broken:

I really hope that this gets fixed.

Though, it may be OP to give +2 AB/damage vs all evil mobs, I'd be happy if it was a shorter list of very evil mobs (like evil outsiders, undead, evil divine characters and maybe bosses or something ...)

Well comparing it to Pure Good which is on average 3.5 extra damage I believe, Righteousness 'should' give +2 Hit and +2 damage so while nice it is hardly totally overpowered. Sometimes I would prefer the extra point or two of damage, others the extra 'to hit', so seems fine to me.

+2 AB and no alignment restriction is *much* more valuable in challenging content for a majority of builds, IMO. Only fighters and barbs don't need the AB so much but they do often need the lack of alignment restriction.

Been going on for quite a while too (noticed it about 3 months ago i think?) which is a pity because the change to make righteousness give good-allignment was something I really liked..

I hadn't noticed this working since it was discovered (just after U9 or whenever they implimented the changes) that Righteous wasn't applying the +2 to-hit and damage against evil opponents. I haven't ever noticed this working as intended. Only the DR/holy aspect of Righteousness ever worked for me.

I think this has been broken for some time. I still use em though as they're good aligned, and some day im sure they'll get the extra to hit back as well.
