View Full Version : A Light spell, please.

This suggestion is to make a level 1 spell called Light, make a version of it for every caster class, and have it apply a light effect to the caster for something like 20 minutes when cast. The Lantern Archon's light effect comes to mind, if you are keen on re-using effects to save development time.

When I first started playing DDO, I remember going into Heyton's rest and then immediately coming back out. I returned to the bar and went through the spell list to find a Light spell. The dungeon was too dark! Of course, it *did* occur to me that a dark dungeon could be "by design." My issue was bad enough however that it broke suspension of disbelief. I had to resort to altering the game's gamma, brightness, and contrast. Some parts of that dungeon were just too difficult to see correctly on my LCD display.

While that should have been the end of it... I play in windowed mode. In that mode, those settings affect the entire Windows desktop and can make other windows very difficult to read.

Having a light spell that allowed me to pierce the darkness would be truly delicious. Pretty please? ...And summoning a Lantern Archon DOESN'T COUNT, dang it! Anyone who says otherwise deserves to meet hohohohoololo's Spectral Santa Dragon in a dark alley. (See http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=342481 if you don't get the reference. It's quite a sight!)

Thanks,

Alaunra

/agreed

As long as we get truely dark dungeons that require a light source to navigate

You could add lanterns/torches these could be an affect rather than item to hold you might even get away with a potion ablity.

truth is, this idea would completely trivialize the quest rainbow in the dark.

Its quite an accomplishment when your able to run that quest WITHOUT the light.

This don't mean i don't agree, hell i think we should be able to buy lanterns and torches, (And ropes, and other things) to make our way though some quests. Would be neat if there were requirements beyond 'what gear, what stats, what class'.

But there is still the pole jump :)

I agree with OP. Bring the Light pls.
