i think image says it all.

Vips get favored soul now? (http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/1598/vipat.png)

it's similar to saying, become vip, you'll get this cool sportscar but instead they give you something else.

oh, yes, image appears in login launcher. and has NO mention about some restrictions or such, like some classes/races are not given access to and so on.

I'm a VIP and I didn't have to pay for Favored Soul.

EDIT: I forgot. I actually DID pay TPs for the class. Sorry.

The image says nothing about receiving FVS for free as a VIP. That'd be like assuming that I can play a dragon because I saw a splash-screen with Velah burning down some adventurers.

was surprised to hear this, this is what the wiki says:

Favored Soul Class 895 TP

If you earn 2,500 Total Favor on a single character you can create a Favored Soul only on that server without the need to purchase Turbine Points
Purchasing the Favored Soul class via the DDO Store unlocks the Favored Soul class on all servers.
This class is NOT free to VIPs.

Prices Current as of March 04, 2011.

wow.

as for the image, i agree with Paleus that it doesn't say FvS anywhere on/near it, just that the toon has wings which is a FvS thing. that said you wouldn't know that if you were new to the game and i'd guess if you're old enough to recognise the graphic for what it is you should know what costs what...

kind of with you OP but nothing to get knotted knickers about.

Its more like selling you a sports car by showing the car with mostly naked girls. Does the car come with mostly naked girls?

Not what I'd call false advertising.

What video game shows an opening of a sportscar that you assume means you'll be given one if you sub?

Just saying.....

Let's further this thought a little further.

Would it be false advertising if there was a splash screen for U11 which had iconic pictures of Forgotten Realms NPCs and various monsters from forgotten realms and U11 had no links ot fogotten realms and none of those monsters in it?

little_me

i would say yes, Cyr.

i guess sports car analogy was bad.
image is still completely misleading though. it displays item A, where offered pack does not give access to said item A.

lets make another more geeky and as bad analogy. a computer.

buy it, cheap, now, it's good!

and in the end, it is missing something like graphics card. which is instead integrated on mb while not totally awful it sure isn't something gamer wants.

oh, and ad does list specs, too bad it lists the "optional" pay to get better version one, with nice card with no mention that it IS the one that costs extra.

so, to recap, FVS has nothing to do with VIP. they could instead use Warforged, Half orc, half elf, and out of classes, anything BUT FVS and it would be correct.
actually, it'd be better since it would show what all IS included.

and excuse of "everyone knows FVS is not included, look at cryptically hidden f2p-premium-vip benefit tables to see it." wont cut it, no offense.
i know FVS isn't included but it doesn't mean Turbine should try to mislead the less knowledgeable people. People who might have played a few days and seen other people with wings (it happens, even in harbor) and thought, cool!
then they see the ad. Cool! i get that too? count me in. click click click and money spent but no FVS.

Drow must be bought or earned as well. You are over-thinking it. Your time would better be spent earning favor........:D

Hmm. I'm confused, I am VIP and I didn't pay for my FVS. I had to get 2500 favor obviously but didn't pay for
it. Neither did I pay for any other class/race. The fact you have to meet in game requirements is not the same
as having to pay to unlock. I mean you can't do shroud until you flag but no one is all angry about not being able
to enter content they paid for.

False advertising in the legal sense, no.

False advertising in the sense of people being mislead due to their own assumptions they made, then yes.

well turbine marketing people who don't know what vip package contains which would be the most likely cause for this.

why do i post this? i have access to both Vip content and FVS? because i don't like false ads and i like the game. like+dislike=mediocre product and i don't like mediocre products.
thus, since i cannot change the game, i'd prefer if they'd change the ads, false and/or misleading advertizing generally is not a good way to bring in customers.

or is, but it's ethically just wrong.

so, someone should just swap the image for group picture of warforged, half orcs and half elves. of varying classes, except FVS.
then it'd be perfect "all you can get for VIP" as long as there wouldn't be over 10 people in the picture. (since vip gets 10 character slots)

in any case, feedback given. i'm not sure how it'll be taken or acted upon.

I disagree.

I see this kind of stuff every single day. The basic pattern of it goes:

Customer: "It doesnt say ANYWHERE in ANY of your documentation that (insert thing they are not satisfied about here). Go ahead, prove it, show me where this is stated!!!"

Rep: "Sir/Maam" if you go to this page on our web site we have a comparison chart which compares all tier levels of the product. The tier level you bought (the cheap one) does not have that feature."

Customer: "I shouldnt have to dig through all that just to find out I have to spend MORE MONEY!!!"

It becomes blatently obvious that the research hasnt been done because each featureset is listed for each tier level. Its also listed on the main product page. Its not cleverly hidden on some backwater page people have to click 5 or 6 objects to see.

Now, I understand people arent mommy and daddy warbucks and how 10-15 dollars a month can be a big deal, but whenever it becomes a big deal as far as the amount of money I spend, it also becomes a big deal for me to do the research to determine if this is something I want to buy. If that amount is 10 dollars or 100 dollars is irrelevant as it can be different per person, but when you feel its a significant amount of money, a significant amount of research should be done to know what that money is being spent on.

It's called bait and switch, I do not like it.

Bait: Favored Soul is unlocked through favor. VIP subscription allows access to all adventure packs. Adventure packs yield additional favor.

Where's the switch?

False advertising ...due to their own assumptions they made, then yes.

It is not "false advertising" if I have to make a discrete assumption where there is no actual offer.

Axe body spray will not cause models to uncontrollably swarm over your pasty little...or large self.

Squeezing the charmin will not summon a weird grocer to admonish you for said squeezing.

Ten minutes a day with a bowflex (or whatever other machine or routine) will not result in you having a rock-hard abdomen in six weeks.

Taking viagra will not guarantee an intimate encounter.

Buying a specific car will not make you "unique".

Advertising is not equal to reality...I guess they figured you'd obviously know the difference especially since the phrase "Go VIP and Get Your FvS On!" failed to appear on the picture....this would imply a specific offer that unlocking with favor or buying with TP would be unreasonable.

Doesnt say VIP gets favored soul nor state that is a favored soul and unless you know that is a FvS already you couldnt know it. Its just an image get over it.

It does imply pretty clearly that FvS and VIP go together.

I think someone just made a mistake- the art department probably has no idea that FvS is not included with VIP membership.

Awkward....

Awkward....

Not in the least bit. Is there not a screenshot of Velah with a VIP advert?

It's awkward when one believes this kind of nonsense.....

And if you "Learn More!", it tells you on two consecutive pages regarding the benefits of going VIP that Drow and Favored Soul are either bought specifically or earned through gamplay.

So... not seeing a problem, like most everyone else.

so, we have farmer Ted, a jolly old person who decides to start selling his veggies.
being crafty fellow, he devises a devious veggie plan.

said plan, contains anyone paying a monthly fee, free access to his veggie stockpiles. Eat all you want and all that.
sadly, everyone doesn't want only veggies. some want juicy apples too!

and Ted charges extra for those, as is natural. they are not included in Veggie plan.

so, what does image of Apple do in advertisement for veggie plan? it has nothing, absolutely nothing to DO with said plan.

besides that apple orchard is next to vegetable patch but that is about it.

so.. anyone wants to tell me what Apples have to do with veggies?

This seems like: man watches tv ad of some lasagne on sale in his local store, man is hungry so man goes to store and buys said lasagne only to be annoyed that he has to cook it first.

I dont see any issue with this sorry, the fact is that you DO get fvs for free ( dont have to use TP's) as a VIP. You do need to do a little work to get it but you also have to do a little work to get any items shown in ads from adventure packs for example.

Thing is most people will go favour hunting on their first character on a server to unlock all the bits and bobs aswell as get more TP's.

It's called Marketing. If you don't feel violated after experiencing it, the Marketer isn't doing it right.
