View Full Version : Light Monk Build

I am returning to the game after a two year absence due to various health reasons and there have been ALOT of changes, most very good, some rather confusing. I am going to get leveling my drow rogue to 20 soon (she's 19 now) and I will be TRing and learning the ropes... as a light path monk due to the fact that they can solo almost anything, unlike the rogue that I currently play where I have to depend on groups for everything.

I've tried to find up to date monk builds (google ftw) and have found little other than halfling builds, I do NOT want to roll a halfling due to the hunched over ape like running animation - lame I know, but I tried one and I wanted to smack it upside the back of the head and yell at it to stand up straight within 10 minutes of playing it.

As for the other race options - I CANNOT decide. Humans get the extra feat but I play one in real life and I'm just not sure if I want to play one in the game. Half Orcs...I'm trying to convince myself that I can make a truly adorable half orc, but I'm failing in that department. That leaves half elves, elves or staying drow. I love my drow toon, she's adorable - but the racial benefits aren't exactly all that for a monk build.

Long story short, if someone could point me in the direction of some viable light path monk builds that don't demand halfling as a race I would love you forever...well, maybe not forever but I'd send you some cookies and pie for your troubles!

Thanks!

HElves are best if you're ruling out HOrc, Human, and Halfling. Dilletantes mean you can get a dilletante in Clerics for more self-healing.

Im leveling the second life of my monk (TRed from monk into monk) right now. She is a Half Elf with Cleric Dilletante.
Till now (lvl 11), she justs blasts through the quests without any difficulties. The Cleric Dilletante offers nice self healing, (95% chance on heal scrolls), the ability to raise (100% raise dead scrolls) and usefull buffs (protection from evil, resist energy, protection from energy, recitation, freedom of movement, bless, etc.).

This is my build right now:

I went through a similar issue. I took my halfling dark monk to cap and was going to TR into a light monk for the middle life to see which I liked better. Sadly, I couldn't find a light monk build here that excited me.

I went with a HOrc dark monk and keep waiting for a light monk build which i could always LR into to play with before the 3rd life.

If you really like, I can post the build I've been playing for the past 8 or so months, Light Path Warforged Monk.
Personally I'm enjoying it (I was dark path halfling monk in my previous life), while leveling I could solo most of the content (I enjoyed groups after lvl 12 which is why I mostly PUG), and now on end game that my gear is nearing completion I can tank just about any raid boss as well. Being WF you have huge versality in the matter since you can be healed by both divine and arcane magic, and if you have high enough healing AMP, divines will love you when you're the one tanking.

But as all buidls, you'll have to be prepared to farm a lot for good gear if you want all out of your build, and all builds have their Pro's and Con's.

P.S.
Welcome back ^^

Thanks so much for all the help!!!!

As for gear, I have ALOT saved up from leveling my rogue that has literally been rotting on my storage toon. Before I unwillingly had to leave the game I knew that I wanted to TR her into a monk so I just started stockpiling everything I could find. There are still a couple of pieces I need and might try to get between now and 20 :)

In that case here is the basis of my build:

Race: Warforged
Aligment: Lawful Neutral
34 point build (Past Life: Monk)
Str 16+4 (lvl ups)+2(Tome) = 22
Dex 15+2 (Tome) = 17
Con 16+2 (Tome) = 18
Int 8
Wis 14+2 (Tome)+1(Lvl ups) = 17
Cha 6

Note that theese are base stats only from tomes and level ups. Level up's were dictated by gear which I had\will have, tomes and enchantments.

Feats:
1. Two weapon Fightning, Bonus Monk (Stunning Fist)
2. Bonus Monk (Toughness)
3. Past life (Monk), Light Path
6. Luck of heroes, Bonus Monk (Toughness)
9. Improved Two Weapon Fightning
12. Improved Critical: Bludgeoning
15. Greater Two Weapon Fightning
18: Power Attack

Enchantments:
Healer's Friend: II
Healing Amp: III
WF Tactics: II
Grandmaster Sun
Master Wind
Master Earth
Master Water
Void: IV
Shintai PrE: III
Concentration: I
WF Constitution: I
Monk Wisdom: II
Racial Toughness: II
Monk Serenity

Head: GS Helmet (Air\Air\Air) = 45 Hp, +6 ex bonus to dex skills, perma blur, displacement clicky
Trinket: Epic Gem of many facets (bloodstone for lvl-ing)
Necklace: Oremi's Necklace (any Con necklace for lvl-ing as you level)
Googles: Epic Raven's Sight (for lvl-ing any that you need for immunities\resistances or just to hit)
Armor: DT Armor (+5 resistance\+5 protection\+4 insight)
Cloak: Cloak of night (for lvl-ing any resistance cloaks as you level)
Bracers: Jidz-tet'ka
Belt: Epic Belt of Mroranon (for lvl-ing use the normal version)
Gloves: Epic Brawling Gloves (for lvl-ing Spectral gloves or Charged Gauntlets from the Chrono runs)
Boots: As you see fit (Personally I use epic boots of marsh walker)
Ring #1: Oremi's Ring with holy burst (for level-ing I suggest using the ring for Katra's Wit set bonus for extra to hit-dmg)
Ring #2: Telvi's Touch with Acid Burst (for level-ing whatever you need to complimenet your build for that level)

Note that this is current gear I'm using, not the end I'm aiming for, but if you have patience, ToD rings are a must for a monk to farm out before you TR. I also suggest going Fire Stance for the most part for extra healing amp if you have jidz-tet'ka.

Also get ready to start hamstering any decent wraps you come across, you're gonna need them ;) and good luck making your monk and hope you have fun playing him\her :)
