hi all, new to the forums. just wondering if i can run quests(soloing) on higher than normal level. so far it seems like anything higher than normal is locked.

also , is there any way to directly raise my stats like strength , dex, etc ..... , or are they tied in with feats and enhancements only? thanks

here are a few ways to run a quest on higher difficulty levels:

1. Complete the quest on Normal and run it again. Hard will be open. Complete the quest on Hard and run it again. Elite will be open.

2. Join a group (check the Social panel by pressing "O") that's running the quest. If someone in the group has the quest available on a higher difficulty level (either through method 1 described above or method 3 described below), then you can run it.

3. One of the perks of having an active paid subscription to the game is that you can run a quest on any difficulty level (ignoring Epic for a moment) without having to complete lower difficulty levels first.

In terms of Epic...Epic quests require you to be level 20 to enter, and only a small subset of quests have Epic available even when you hit 20. Don't worry about these yet.

In terms of raising your ability scores, there are a few ways:
1. As you level, you'll get to add points to your ability scores. You get one point every four levels (so, at 4/8/12/16/20 and for a total of 5).

2. Enhancements, as you already mentioned--some being permanent boosts, others being short term abilities that give temporary increases. There is one feat that can increase ability scores, but it's the hardest feat in the game to get (Completionist; requires you to level a character as 20, true reincarnate back to 1, run to 20 again, reincarnate again, repeat until you've run a character to 20 in every class).

3. Equipment. You can get items that buff your abilities--look for equipment with "Ogre Power" for strength, "Dexterous" for dexterity, "Health" for constitution, "Clever" for intelligence, "Wise" for wisdom, and "Charismatic" for charisma. These range from +1 to +6. Note that many of these have significant minimum levels. Outside of named loot and bound loot, they generally are +2 at level 5 and then add a +1 for every 2 levels with +6 at level 13.

Also worth noting: multiple pieces of equipment of one type don't stack with each other. If you find a pair of Ogre Power Gloves (+2 strength), Ogre Power Bracers (+2 strength), and an Ogre Power Belt (+1 strength), the total effect with all equipped will be only +2 strength rather than +5 strength. It takes the highest value available. There is some equipment that does stack with these effects due to providing a different type of bonus (called an Exceptional bonus), but items with Exceptional bonuses are rarer and only to characters near endgame.

4. Short term buffs. Look for potions of Bull's Strength, Cat's Grace, Bear's Endurance, Fox's Cunning, Owl's Wisdom, or Eagle's Splendor for +4 buffs to each of the six abilities (str/dex/con/int/wis/cha respectively). Note that these potions don't stack with equipment mentioned above; if you have a +2 strength item, then a potion of Bull's Strength will only increase your Strength by an additional 2. There are a few other buffs, but most are a bit rare and/or self-only spells (like Ram's Might, a ranger spell that gives +2 strength but are self-only).

thanks . so how do you raise stats like strength , dex, intelligence , etc.. , without equiptment or potions. do they automatically go up when you level or if you train enhancements , feats where those stats are listed next to the enhancements and feats?

You get a stat increase of your choice every 4 levels.

There are also enhancements that you get per your race and your class that you can use to increase an ability score. The ones allowable are based on your race and your class. Humans can pick 1 specific one to raise.

Well, 2 specific ones to raise. Human Adapability and Greater Human Adaptability. I know you can choose 2 different stats, but I'm drawing a blank on whether it will allow you to double up on the same stat with both. Can't check the game right now to find out.
