So, trying to sort this one out. Do Vorpals/Banishers/Smiters etc. now work Red named/Purple named mobs? They use the 1000+ HP rule and do damage or are Red nameds and purple nameds still immune to these types of weapons?

Red and purple named retain there full list of immunities.

Immunities include deathward.

Deathward stops your head from coming off. Even under 1000hp.

They will still however, take the 100 dmg on a 20.

Perhaps the arguement has already been made before, but doesn't:

Head coming off != Death Ward

?

I can understand Death Ward protecting against magical death effects. But, lopping someone's head clean off is a bit different. At least it is, conceptually, in my mind.

I understand that it is the magical enchantment of the sword that allows its wielder to make an "off with their heads!" strike. But, it's not a death effect that is taking the enemy's life. It's hard, cold steel, even though it has been subsequently guided by magic.

Deathward prevents your head from leaving your neck. So you aren't dead... its just a flesh wound.

Death Ward stops....Instant Death effects. Vorpal is pretty instant. 'nuff said.

Death Ward does in fact stop Vorpals, and I'd say Vorpal being a magical enchantment is justification enough.

Shade: does Death Ward stop the 100 points of damage on a 20?

You answered your own question. It's the death magic effect on the Vorpal that allows it to take off the head. When that death magic is countered then it becomes basically a regular sword which can only take your life when you have -10 hp. With the updates it'll still retain enough magic to do extra damage, but it cannot as easily slice through your neck.

Holy tamoleys! So, ...um ... this kinda changes a lot of weapons around. TWF Epic ChaosBlades is now the undisputed King of DPS, way ahead of eSoS. Although Epic ChaosBlades is like getting 2 eSoS.... wow.

Why are you so excited?
ECB can barely beat Lit2 even on lawful targets. Nothing wrong with extra 5dmg per hit.

I don't know what exact principles behind it, but here is my theory. The death ward effect basically negates the magical part of the sword that "seeks to chop off heads". Kind of like how the sword "forgets" to chop off your head if you have deathblock/death ward on.

This is why I like the change to the effectiveness in the Assassin's assassinate. No magic at all, just stab and kill.
