I've ran ToD 28 times with no class ring. Someone in my group the other day had done it over 60 times with no class ring. That is quite a grind to get class specific gear.

Those "knives" that you get at the end of the quest begin to add up. It would be nice if you could turn in a set amount of these to get a ring you actually want.

I think turning in 20 or 30 of these would make sense since you normally receive raid loot on the 20th run. Plus you'd still need a few to upgrade it, so it's not like you're going to stop grinding it.

Sounds good to me.
But it would result in getting the ring you want in like 10-15runs.
Depending if you do Elite or Hards, which is sooner then 20th.

or just give more choices on your 20th increment?

I remember somebody came up with a great idea a while ago, tokens. Tokens for each class type (melee, spellcaster, specialist) drop in the chest as opposed to the rings. You get a token and take it to an NPC who gives you a choice of rings from that type.

Sorry, but not signed. The tower of despair actually has about the right grind to get what you are looking for. It falls between desert epics gear and the vision of destruction/hound raids. One of which is too grindy (desert epic) and the other not enough of a grind (VOD/Hound). The problem is Turbine can not crank out content so it has to have some grind. The balance between not enough grind where after 20 runs you have an 86%+ chance (vod/hound) to get what you are looking for and the other where after 100 runs (desert epics) you are unlikely to get what you are looking for is a tough one, but the Tower is close enough to not warrant a change.

Class type ones would be a real problem. For example most rogues would rather have ravanger than assassin (or want both)

However the idea of raid tokens (much like epic raid tokens) that you collect and turn in for what you want has been suggested since Von6 was the only raid with raid loot.

I would be in favor of a set number of the knives giving you a 20th end reward that only included rings. Just the standard one with no guarantee you get the one you want. That seems balanced between the cost and the reward.

Oh I don't think whoever was suggesting it was saying that a class type could only get their class type token. The idea, from what I gathered, was to cut down from having to deal with 35 different possible drops to having 3 different possible drops.

Edit: If perhaps you feel thats too much of a drop, which I can agree with, you can instead have class tokens. A class token will give you a choice of rings that are associated with that class.
Ex: Sorcerer Token: Choice of Savant Rings
With 11 different classes you now have 11 different possible loot drops.
