The thread about the wall of ice made me wonder why we don't have a spell that can hinder monster movement. So here's a go at a spell that might work.

Wall of Force
Level: 5
Components: V, M, S
Range: About 25 - 50 feet
Duration: 6 seconds per caster level
Saving Throw: None or Reflex

This will create an invisible wall. The wall is immune to all spells except disintigrate (maybe dispell magic as well depending on how dispel was implemented). Teleport can be used to get around the wall of force (demons and devils teleport ability) but cannot be attacked or moved through. Gaze attacks work normally through the wall of force.

In addition to being able to make the wall, the caster is able to select a single target, and encase him in a spherical wall of force for the duration of the spell (use the globe of invulnerability graphic.) The targeted creature gets a reflex save to avoid being encased by the wall of force.

What do you think?

While it would be nice, the implementation would be very hard. If it stopped player movement as well, it would open up humongous opportunity for player griefing. If it did not stop player movement, it would be absolutely broken.

Possibly .... It would have to stop gaze attacks then, otherwise someone could bubble a beholder and that would be an effective way to grief.

Other than that, I don't think it could be any more annoying than grease, but could be used to cut off large groups of monsters, or force them to move around the wall allowing the party to dps down whatever made it past the wall.

Personally I'd rather have Prismatic Wall...

Prismatic wall creates a vertical, opaque wall—a shimmering, multicolored plane of light that protects you from all forms of attack. The wall flashes with seven colors, each of which has a distinct power and purpose. The wall is immobile, and you can pass through and remain near the wall without harm. However, any other creature with less than 8 HD that is within 20 feet of the wall is blinded for 2d4 rounds by the colors if it looks at the wall.

Can we say kite mobs through for a variety of effect? Bonus points if you manage to super banish an entire encounter.
