View Full Version : Show how many times and on what difficulties you've done the quest

Robai
08-13-2010, 01:29 AM
Problem:
- you don't know how many times you have done the quest (unless you are doing it now and press the XP button)
- after you finish the quest on Elite you don't know whether you have finished that quest on Normal or Hard (unless you are doing that difficulty now and press the XP button)
- when you play on all 7 servers you definitely forget how many times and on which difficulties you have finished quests

Of course, it's not a problem for Favor, but it is a problem for XP.
Additionally it will help you to avoid quests with already Ransacked chests (at least in the first time of Ransacking, which happens after 8 times of opening that chest within 1 week).

Solution (suggestion):

For example, if you have done Redemption quest 1 time on Normal and 2 times on Elite then pressing P instead of this
Redemption --- 1 Solo/Party --- The Coin Lords --- Elite --- 9

you should see this
Redemption --- 1 Solo/Party --- The Coin Lords --- Normal (1) Hard (0) Elite (2) --- 9

or this
Redemption --- 1 Solo/Party --- The Coin Lords --- Normal (1) Elite (2) --- 9

or any of these short versions:

Redemption --- 1 Solo/Party --- The Coin Lords --- (0)-(1)-(0)-(2) --- 9

Redemption --- 1 Solo/Party --- The Coin Lords --- NE --- 3 --- 9

Redemption --- 1 Solo/Party --- The Coin Lords --- (0)-(1)-(0)-(2)-(0) --- 9

Redemption --- 1 Solo/Party --- The Coin Lords --- (0)-(1)-(0)-(2)-(-) --- 9/9

I'd also like to see the number of quest completions before entering the quest in the window, i.e.:

http://i51.tinypic.com/ih1b3n.jpg

The last version of quest window is in this thread:
Perfect Quest Window (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?p=3974811#post3974811)

Great idea thoug, would be helpful for TRing so I know how much more I can farm a quest.

This is a great idea. How hard would it be to keep some sort of a timer for ransack? Obviously there is some sort of database that is holding the information, so it would also just be a matter of data collection. It could change the color of the quest text to prevent the use of an extra column.

The only downside is if this increases the chances of the panel opening blank. :(

This is a good idea.

If however that is harder than it looks for some reason (like they don't currently trap runs per difficulty, just total runs and first times) then at least give us an indicator if we still have the first time bonus available on a given difficulty. (The number of times I've run h/e with a group and then not remembered if I had done norm yet myself...)

I seem to remember a few updates back that each (or atleast most that I ran then) quest seperated the difficulties, so you could lets say run the pit on normal 3 times, do it on hard, lose party after that, then do it on hard again, and it would say you have only done this quest once. Think it went to it all be grouped together on the Update that had the Sentinals of Stormreach pack.

My first reaction was that relying on colors to make this info clear is a bad choice with Turbine trying to fix colorblind issues. Now that I think about it though it doesn't matter if they are colored or not. It is easy to assume it progresses with difficulty.

I'm almost certain they track total runs and first runs, not runs per difficulty, just as someone mentioned previously. Of course, this makes it even easier to display a denser version of the same information. Just add a column for times run.

Run once on hard:
Redemption --- 1 Solo/Party --- The Coin Lords --- H --- 1 --- 6

And then on elite:
Redemption --- 1 Solo/Party --- The Coin Lords --- HE --- 2 --- 9

And then 4 times on normal:
Redemption --- 1 Solo/Party --- The Coin Lords --- NHE --- 6 --- 9

Note "Times Run" color changed to indicate XP hit.

Edit: this also makes it obvious what's done without relying on colors.

+1.

Also, it would be nice if completions showed up in social panel, maybe as a pop-up when checking parties, and when accepting a quest - so you don't have to check compendium to know if you can apply for a given group or accept a certain quest.

Well the game knows what quests i have done and on what difficulty and how many times i have done it .Even if it just told me Normal / Elite 7 (meaning i had done it on Normal and Eite and had 7 completions) . All info the game has stored about me but not displayed . I would be happy .
I figure it knows exactly what settings i have done also but even a simplfied version as to what settings i have done and how many total completions i have is enough for me to know the value of completing that quest again .

At the moment i have a charachter i got upto level 16 to run shroud , since leaving him at shroud level for a run every 3 days ive leveled 2 toons to 20 and 17 in the mean time . I have no idea how many times i have run what currently on that guy .

While you are at it, give us a reset button on the quest window, useable only by the party leader. Instead of having to break and reform, just use the reset button. Also eliminates the need for LFMs begging for resets.

I would love some way of getting this type of info!

here is my idea:

instead of coding every quest for this.. might they be able to have some type of DB query we could run?

ie:

/quest completions
raid counter

/quest
raid timer counter

/completions <quest name> <--- case and grammar sensative

examples:

input: /completions Thrall of the Necromancer
output: 10n 2h 1e

input: /completions Gwylan's Stand
ouput: 7n 3h 1e

I like the OP's idea and this one as well. I think adding / commands would be easier than tinkering with the UI. I hope they can add this to u9 since they are digging into UI code.

I would think it would be just as easy to link this information to the character quest log as it is to the quest xp report. Open the quest log select the quest, click quest history and it gets looked up the same way it does when entering the quest.

Now that's a fantastic and much more user-friendly idea.

Oh wait, did I say that out loud? I meant: "OMG EASY BUTTON!!! WAAHHH!!!"

That's the correct response, right?

Update 10 is coming.
Cross fingers.

Update 10 already exists on the live servers - Turbine just needs to turn it on. It looks as though Update 9 and Update 10 were really one update, but they just turned part of it off so that they can spread out the new material a bit.

I'll still keep my fingers crossed for Update 11, though!

Redemption --- 1 Solo/Party --- The Coin Lords --- (0)-(1)-(0)-(2)-(0) --- 9

I'd also add max favor achievable for quest at the end - I find it to be important information sometimes when running content I don't remember or don't know at all, so it would end with 9 / 9.

Also, you could indicate quests that don't have epic mode or don't have casual mode my just putting (-) in corresponding place.

Turbine already tracks that data in order to give us the quest repeat penalties. Just show it to us so that we can see what we missed in our questing.

/Signed also.

However the information above includes redundencies which isn't optimal.

Not having time for artshop fu atm I'll describe a simpler method.

Next to each difficulity you only need to mark if the quest has been completed or not.
This could be using colour/bold or adding an icon next to it (star as completed for example).

Under you then just need a global repetition count.

As the repetition count is global and only a single flag for each difficulty this representation better reflects the ingame implementation.

I've been wondering for a long time why this hasn't been a feature yet and finally decided to suggest it to the devs, was going to make a new post but did a search first and found this thread. It's been over a year since the first post! What the hell devs? it's rather annoying having to remember what difficulties i've ran quests on and how many times. Just make it so you can /quest <questname> and it show's something like this:

Running with the Devils
Casual: 0
Normal: 5
Hard: 1
Elite: 1
Epic: 0

LFKnowledge
06-24-2012, 08:16 PM
and anyone know if this will be part of the expansion updates? I haven't been on beta at all.

But if I was a betting man, I'd say no way.

This is a feature that is needed in game, considering how many times quests are needed to be ran/grinded on TRs.
