Hi there...

I just downloaded DDO a couple days ago.. I played through the starter city to Stormreach. At that time decided it would be ok for my 6 year old to play along with me. I decided I'd re-roll and get a little more serious. Started researching classes, duo's... etc. I have tons of MMO experience and although I've never been a zealous min / maxer I have been reading over all the forums for the last couple days searching for a good class / build.

After spending more than a few hours reseaching the forums I'm at a loss. I'm new, confused, broke (obviously), have no access to anything remotely uber and honestly...I've gone round and round about class, race, feats, enhancements...I'm more lost that ever.

I've decided to forgo anything challenging for my first character and just plow through some content. I'd like to "earn" drow and 32 point, etc.

I am looking for a simple 28 point build that can help me access more of the game, will be "slightly" viable at end game, and will allow me to pursue enough rewards to open the additions?

If Fighter or Barb is the way to play (alot recommend this route early on) to get a new player rolling, then so be it.

Suggestions?

If you want to duo a bit with your child, i´d recommend a battlecleric build for you, and a straight Fighter for your son.

Dwarfen Cleric with a splash of 1 fighter level can solo very well, as well as keeping your son active so he can kill your enemys.
--> For further research look in the Cleric forums for Dwarfen battleclerics.

Fighter pure is easy to build, and will have some AC, as well as good DPS.
--> For further research look in the Fighter forums for builds who are versatile and can switch between AC and DPS, for when the fight / quest favors one over the other.

He has a lot of good builds to choose from. I have been playing a few months and started with a fighter. You might try that, or if you are going to run with your son, you might try the battle cleric build, and have your son run a ftr. That way you can keep him alive. :) If you are on Khyber server, contact me on Dreamler, Dreckler, Dreadler, or Barrock and I will try to help you all I can.

I wouldn't get caught up in weapons or armor yet. By the time you are 12th level, you will have changed them so much, you will wonder why you put so much emphasis on getting it.

What server are you on? Let us know - there are lots of people that could help you two get started!

A dwarf cleric with a ft spash or two (lv 2 and maybe 13 or 15) is great fun!

Fighter for you son would be good - Pally won't be bad either.

Depends on how much you wanted to plan/help him a 1 rog / x ranger might be good as well. There are a lot of builds out there - but that would take care of a lot of traps and offer a little self healing.

Somethink like this should work well... only 1 +2 tome at high level - 28 pt build...
Use great axe for a little more DPS after lv 2 - shield (DR/AC or devotion) and D-axe for other times....
