View Full Version : I made a batzarro build. help please, it's my first "build"

This is my first build, but I'm sure you'll figure that out when you look at it. How do I make this better? Am I doing the classes in the wrong order? What am I doing? Batzarro fights with a big chain, but DDO seems to have forgotten about the "Chain" weapon branch. Not even the morning stars have chains on them in this game. I went with morning star though, as they are the closest thing this game has to something with a chain.

It looks to me like this is a flavor build, so I'll give you advice from that perspective.

Think about only taking 2 levels of rogue- for the skills you're going to be using it's all you'll need. Plus take the 2 levels of rogue right at the beginning in order to max your skill allocation. Too many levels of rogue and you'll knock your hit points down a bit too much.

Next drop str down to 17 or even 16. Also drop your wis back down to 8 but boost your cha to a 12 or 14 if possible and any extra points put into intel for skill points. Your con is fine, so put str in at every 4th level up boost.

Boosting cha does 2 things- gives you a better UMD score and allows you to take the force of personality feat instead of luck of heroes. (Uses cha for will saves.) This fits for the flavor aspect, as batman (or batzarro) can be argued to have a forceful personality. Also drop power crit- you should have no problem confirming criticals.

Next think about taking more levels of barb- maybe even 16 levels. For the purpose of your build, the fighter levels are just giving you bonus feats, of which you almost had too many of.


Anyway think about what I've said. If it doesn't seem to fit your idea for your flavor build that's too bad. But if it does great! It sounds like a fun build.

First, I would take your rogue levels first. You will get more skill points starting out. I would also drop to only two levels of rogue. The biggest advantages without the full prestige enhancements is going to be the sneak attack and evasion (so long as you are wearing light armor). Doing this can take you all the way to level 12 in fighter for more feats/another tier in prestige enhancements (I think, refer to the experts for a more knowledgeable answer).

Thanks for the input! I'll try to give it a make over with your suggestions when I get back from the bar (which will probably add even more "flavor" to this build)

How does that look? Am I missing too many feats that I had before? I noticed that skill points and feats seem alot slimmer. Also, I wasn't really sure what to do with balancing the ability points. Is the con on this going to be too low?

I noticed that...

...is better after your suggestionsand that reflex and fortitude are only slightly less. What kind of numbers should I be shooting for in bab, reflex and fort and what affects those the most?

I just threw this together really quick, not sure if the enhancements/feats are exactly what you wanted... but I tried to make him as batmanish as possible.

EDIT: added shuriken and quick draw feats for throwing batarangs.


Haha! Batarangs, or Bizarrorangs are a nice add!

I realize this is a flavour build but I must say that you will be dissappointed with how this turns out at higher levels. From an offensive perspective you need to choose a style, either THF or TWF as you wont be able to achieve a meaningful AC with SnB. THF would be the best given your attributes and a maul is a good THF blint weapon (not a chain but neither is a morningstar). Even if you do decide to use a sheild, dont use a morningstar as it is a simple weapon, a warhammer would be a significantly better choice.

Replace power critical and acrobatic. Your acrobatic skills will already be better than most and power critical will be wasted (it just adds to hit, not damage).

If you go THF, take the two of the THF feats (i'd recommend fitting in all three and taking them earlier), other wise wepaon focus and weapon specialization would be decent options.

I like Spinreks starting stats btw. Spending 3 build points for taking CON to 17 is a poor return on HP.

THF requires 15 STR, ITHF requires 17 STR + BAB 6, and GTHF requires 17 STR + BAB 11.
TWF requires 15 DEX, ITWF requires 17 DEX + BAB 6, and GTWF requires 17 DEX + BAB 11. (also, ranger gets the TWF feats for free w/o meeting the requirements at lvls 2, 6, and 11.)

Ya, the things you spend AP on. They do not count towards your base ability scores for purposes of prerequisites but they stack with gear/buffs which is nice. (ie, if you have 16 STR +1 enhancement STR you can not get ITHF until you either buy a tome or spend the ability point that you get every 4 levels in STR to get 17 base.)

Im not sure about following the character for accuracy, but I know that batman(or at least the dark knight) was trained in martial arts. Also for better playability and since you are going 6 levels of fighter anyway, I would recommend getting Fighter Kensei and Mastery in whichever weapon you want to use. It requires Fighter Attack Bonus II, Fighter Critical Accuracy II, Weapon Specialization: [whichever type the weapon is you want to use], and lvl 6 Fighter. It gives you +1 bonus hit and damage and +2 confirm crit and crit damage(before multipliers) with the specific weapon you want and +1 bluff, concentration, Diplomacy, Intimidate, +1 combat feat DCs, +1 reflex saves against magical effects, and 1 additional action boost per rest.

Oh, thanks. I definatley wanted the kensei but I wasn't sure what the prerequesites were. How many AP does a character wind up having to spend?

power critical will be wasted (it just adds to hit, not damage).

i'd like to do a martial arts batzarro, but i figure i'll play this one through and then I'll have the points needed to unlock monk and also some valuable playing time with this build to help me do the hand to hand thang.

I knew that. You're right though, my statement wasn't very clear.

Reviewing the OPs new build I noticed that you have decided on THF - good, and you also have the cleave/great cleave feats which I didn't really notice before. The way THF fighting works in DDO is very simlar to how cleaving works in that it hits all mobs in the area of a swing. Cleave/Great cleave will do full damage and effects in the area of the swing all the time but initially THF will only do partial damage and no effects. Eventually, as you add the THF feats and enhancements, your regular swings will do almost the same thing as cleave.

You may want to take cleave early on and respec it later for another feat (perhaps improved trip? - kind of batmanny) and replace great cleave.
