Looking good so far. (+)

Your hosting site does have a lot of ad junk, tho. Any thoughts of using YouTube?

Unfortunately, Youtube only allows 10 minutes max and 100mb file size. Perhaps I could trim down my vid a little, but I'll do that later. :)

Comrades :D

As requested, I made better versions of my vids and uploaded them to YouTube since it's a better choice. I just finished recording Desecrated Temple of Vol (a rather easy quest) and I'm currently editing it for upload.

However, I will still keep alt links to Dailymotion since I like the tools in their site. I will post the next vid once done.

I checked the link and comrade Spyderwolf's work. He did a great job on pretty much making a vid of almost all quests.

But the primary purpose of my thread is to improve my video making skills, while making a guide on some quests at the same time(not to directly compete with others). I'm more interested in making my vids "pretty" and "marketable." I learned a lot from making these video guides and will continue to do so in order to increase my knowledge. Comments and suggestions will be highly appreciated. :D

However it got me to thinking 'twould be nice if there were some for lower lvl characters, as that would be especially helpful for third-shifters, as we tend to play on anything but peak hours and thusly go solo a goodly bit more frequently.

My first video in HD!!!

To view it on HD, highlight the 360p (found beside the volume control) and then choose 720p. You will now be able to view it in much much better quality, especially if you view it full screen. I also included alt links for this new vid and for inferno of the damned as well.

A couple of recommendations: The Pit, Ghost of a Chance (specifically the puzzle)... I can't think of any other lower level ones that are tricky like those... maybe The Prisoner?

Thanks for the suggestions comrade, Ghost of a chance is somewhat easy (though the puzzle might need studying). The pit is also a good idea, I'll think about it :)

just a quick nitpick on your tor video, your hirling positioning and then running to other lever is unnecessary, you can plant the hirling next to the lever with out anything selected and if you use the gears button he will pull the lever. found that out in a run of crucible solo where i got stuck in the maze, sorry to have to post it here but no youtube account.

but very nice guides overall

I have just got a new system. Learning how to do this fraps thing with DDO..getting closer to being able to make nice vids.

Even got vegas video for editing and adding stuff.

My first attempt and the audio was a little behind the video from the raw file...changed some sound settings...and now the video is just a half second ' behind the audio!!! dang it.

Here is the beginning of a series of 2 to 4 minute vids, solo sins of attrition, all 5 chests (could not pass it up), not too zergy (had to test out areas of mass battles and framerates and all that, so not a speed run).

cleared or checked all rooms, cleared and used second shrine. Picked the nasty demon boss....:)

Still might be processing (it is as I write this..)

DDO Sins of Attrition Part 1 of 7 -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Nxk-jqLggI

DDO Sins of Attrition Part 2 of 7 - Done processing, HD sort of...full screen a bit blocky.

1) takes forever and a day to upload a file. To make a really really good quality video my god, it might take me a large number of hours to upload...better be right the first time.

2) have no idea what end quality will be like. Lightened up video, recorded all the sounds, tried to show log but writing was too low.

directx10 though!!!!

3) its weird recording as it does seem to have a drag on resources a bit..noticeable enough in game play. Plus I kept checking framerates and file sizes and paid less attention to the game which is obvious in some spots...lol

- How big is the file, comrade?

it would be best if you compress the vid carefully with the right codecs so that it looks great in YouTube (I'm currently in favor of using Xvid)

Yes comrade, when you record using Fraps, it slows down FPS, making it more difficult to control your character

OMG, A competitor!!! :D

I'll check out the vid once I get home, can't do it in the office :)

the file sizes end up being like 70mb for 4 minutes or so....and they are small....used windows movie maker just to play with it since i have no idea what to do for sure on the compression. Took my original that was too dark (about 170mb hours upon hours to upload.)

youtube seemed pretty sure they only wanted mp2 or 4 and that ended up being really huge.

plus setting the game resolutions, fraps, etc....all without instructions is all hit and miss.

I am thinking of vegas video since i have it and it has been on the shelf for a year...but youtube really wants a specific size which that program seems to not have as a default...annoying.

they have been processing for hours, so no way to tell final look. I did them at 1/2 size, 30 fps, locked. audio is just a bit off.

Comrade, I'm using this free software called Vdub, it's very good and it gets the job done --> http://www.virtualdub.org/

For my audio, I use audacity, another very good free software --> http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

My video resolution is 1024x768. For HD, I record in full-size @ 25FPS with no sound (25 FPS is recommended by YouTube and other video streaming sites). Once I'm done recording, I connect the vids using Vdub, add subtitles and effects on them and then compress the audio and video. For audio, I use MP3 192kbps stereo codec (but sometimes lower), and for video I use Xvid codec since it lets me adjust between quality and file size (and satisfied with the results so far).

I only have 1mb internet connection, and uploading a 70mb ~ 99mb file takes about an hour. After uploading, a crappy version of the vid will now be viewable while Youtube processes the HD version, it takes long so I usually check a day after.

well vetk,

the second video seems to be done processing.
it was done at half size, but I set the game resolution to the 1280x720 HD that they wanted.

The audio recorded easily along with it all...but was just off. I can play with that.

Looking at number 2 vid, in HD, in full screen, was really close to what I would like to have.

I am going to try it at full size and I think that will make the difference when doing full screen. At wide screen it came out much better too as a final version.

Not exactly the best comrade, it's my first high level character, but here's the build:

STR: 14
DEX: 16
CON: 12
INT: 10
WIS: 8
CHA: 18

Sorc 16 / Pally 2 / Rogue 2
Weapon + Shield, Light Armor, Full Fire/Cold Enhancements with Arcane Fluidity. I'm going to TR this into a Human with better Constitution, max UMD and max open lock in order to solo harder stuff such as raids.

Also did you start your char on Pally then went to rogue and then finally sorc?

When I first signed up F2P, I experiemented with a lot of characters and accumulated ~1000TP. Then went VIP for one month and got another 1000TP (from Christmas). When I was no longer VIP, I bought Necro 4, Gianthold and the low level packs when they were on 50% sale.

Here's how I leveled this toon:
1.Pally
2.Pally
3.Sorc
4.Sorc
5.Rogue
6.Sorc
7.Sorc

If you're going to take any rogue levels, best to do so at first level as you get a massive boost to skill
points. What software are you guys using to record the video - fraps? I tried some freely available stuff such
as zdrecorder with very poor results.

If you are doing an XC solo guide, see if you can beat four minutes to completion :p

I was taking the rogue levels later because I wanted to have as much open lock as possible(not sure if it was worth it). On my future TR toon, I'm going to take rogue on the first level for other purposes.

And yes I'm using fraps. It's not really the best comrade, but it works and I don't know any other good video recording software.

Does it really matter, dude? Although Spyderwolf's videos are great, no argument there, but it's always nice to see someone else contributing. Great job, Vettkin

Thanks :D

Comrade, I checked the vids and they look great in HD. But it would be best if you can knit them all together and compress them to make em better (but remember the 10 minute and 100mb limit from YouTube) :)

the limit is 2 gb now...10 minutes is a long upload, to test i did small ones.

I compressed into a mp2 as best as I could and still keep quality. The more compression, the more defects....as far as I could tell.

If you are doing an XC solo guide, see if you can beat four minutes to completion :p

Meh, couldn't manage 3 mins due to some issues, but I still get 4 though:

Update!

I made a new vid:

~ The Xorian Cipher - A Solo Guide - (HD) ~ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJqOcLJ9XmU)
(A link is also available in the first post)

HD is now available and I suggest viewing it in HD for best quality.

Enjoy the vid comrades and comments and suggestions will be appreciated. Get em girds!

Update!

Comrades, I've always thought of making video guides for all quests, but then the Korthos and Harbor ones are too low level / easy. So I figured "Why don't I make the hirelings do all the work instead?"

Starting today, quests that I deem too easy will now be done solely by hirelings. Here's the first vid:

~ The Cannith Crystal - A Quick Guide - (HD) ~ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfGVvU7r3sM)

This vid also features custom music + real ingame sounds. I learned something new this time :D

A link is also available in the first post. Due to RL demands, I cannot update as often as before, how I wish I had more time in my hands :(

I love it, how much FPS did you use for that?

I love it, how much FPS did you use for that?

I am using the latest version of fraps.
It was set at 30 frames, but not 'locked' so it could go anywhere.
I do not think it can go past 60 due to the monitor though.

I did it full size and my screen was around 1600x1200 (windowed res in ddo) and
1600x1200 for 1600x1200 for the setting under that (forgot what it is called..resolution?)

Most of my settings in ddo were on high or ultra high.

The real issue is even though I have an NFTS file system that allows files larger than 4 gb, fraps still stops at 4 gb and makes a new file while filming. In this case, that was every 1:50 seconds or so... And each time it did it, the pause seemed to longer.
There were places where I manually stopped the recording and then restarted it to reset that pause length.

The sound started out okay, but was slowly pushed off sync by a second or so. I tried adjusting but each 2 minute section had its own sound issues and it was too much work to get it perfect (and impossible in some battle scenes...lol)
