So I take advantage of the 50% offer on this pack, it is basically a steal at that price. I quickly get my fighter rogue out to see what it is all about...

I managed to get through the first couple of parts fine enough without much problems on normal just to get the feel of the quests. Then I head into part 3 I think, where I have to save this family from the Sharne's brutality. The first time I went in I talk to the guy standing near the door, and well all hell breaks loose, as I kill everything in sight. No problem there, so I head upstairs where apparently the family is being held prisoner and dispatch all the guards in the hall. I sense traps everywhere, and promptly disarm them one by one.

I believe I am doing all the right things here, but this happened twice, and I have no clue as to whether this is a bug, or I have failed the quest somehow. Anyhow, I believe at one point I got one of the doors to open and I am attack by a band of Sharnes and I quickly kill them all, then suddenly I get the travel screen and I am teleported out of the quest. It happens so fast that I never get to see what the objectives were before the boot. Am I doing something that would cause this boot?

The first time I got booted I ran back in to finish it if I could, and I wasn't able to open any of the doors, or bash them either. I couldn't even abandon the quest to start over. Basically, I quit for the night then. Am I missing something obvious? Is one the family members getting butchered without my realizing it? I have never even seen one of the family members yet.

Basically, I want to know if it is a bug, or I am simply failing the quest unknowingly. If it is the later, then I guess I will try to see where I am going wrong...but if it is the former, then I am not a happy customer...

***spoiler***

I failed my first couple of times too.

When you bash the doors, the family member(s) that are inside the room start fighting. If they get killed, you fail the quest. I rescue them one at a time and take them to the window so they can exit. That way, you only have to worry about one fighting at a time.

Ah, thanks! I just wanted to know what was going on! The boot seems to happen so fast that I never realized that a family member was killed. I had a sneaking suspicion that was happening. So I need to work on some tactics then...since I am soloing the quest chain first to see what it is all about.

Again thanks for confirming that. Now to figure why I couldn't retry it the first time...

You should like this series on solo. Right up a rogues alley. :) Some nice bound eq too. The quest where you save the bar from the Sharn - with a pocket cleric to heal the two guys, you can finish on hard, and probably elite.

Some hints/helps.

Make sure to clear both hallways before you open any doors, that helps cut down any extra mobs that might rush into a fight.

If you have a Monster Summon Clickie, use it just before you open a door. The monster will help distract some of the enemies from attacking either you or the rescue victim.

Escort the victims to one of the two exits as soon as you get them safe (front door or the exit on the top floor (look for the exit symbol on the map), you can actually use this other exit yourself to leave or even start the quest from. No need to go in the front door if you are breaking in on a pack of thieves!:D

Make a rush towards any enemy casters, they tend to be the ones targeting the prisoners. If you have the ability to cast healing spells you can heal them as well, but that is pretty touch and go on solo at level since that might only tread water and not help defeat the enemies.

This is by far the most challenging quest in the chain to solo in my opinion. The first part in the bar is the second most difficult, and in both cases you have to protect someone(s) from dying.

Have fun

Also, as a Rogue - you should pick the locks on the doors. The Sharn guys agro on the family members when you start bashing the door, but not until the door is actually open if you pick the lock. :)

I ran the whole set last night on solo. Loved it. I was also pleasantly suprised on the stuff I got as rewards. I had the same thing happen to me. I finally realized that you need to get the family members out one at a time. I was using them to help me fight as I moved room to room.
When I run these on hard/elite definitely need a rogue for the house traps and the last two quests.

as you're a fighter, I'm going to make an assumption that you have some ranks in intimidate. As you're also a rogue, I'd agree with the lock picking approach. then as soon as those doors swing open pop intimidate and make with the hacky-hack. Make sure you take each family member back one by one but watch it - the two rooms on the long corridor next to each other have a secret door between them. I have known the fight in one room to alert the mobs in the next and they immediately start on the family member inside. when you've cleared one room stop and listen a sec, see if you can hear any fighting - if you can head straight into the next room without talking to the family member, or at most talking to them to tell them to stay put.

hope that helps

While I am a using my fighter3/rogue3, he does not have intimidate, but should have sufficient thieving skills to disable and open the locks. I guess next time I am going to have to think a little more about protecting the family members. I was just surrounded by Sharns and simply wasn't looking for anybody to protect. Just killing everything in sight. Heh! Thus, fail!

I did the first part without much difficulty 2-3 times on normal. Hadn't tried it on a harder difficulty yet. Still working on the tactics for that one. Seems that fella gets a lot of aggro with that bow! Hehe.

I look forward to trying it again then, knowing I wasn't experiencing a bug, but an epic fail on my part. ;-) I am determined to succeed though!
