I have loads of fun playing my cleric. It's a reasonably simple caster build (18 wisdom, pumped wisdom as much as possible, and feats were empower, maximize, some other random stuff, quicken) that can be effective as a healer and as a nuker/debuffer (on a good day).

My dwarf clr x/monk 2 TR build. High DEX/CON/WIS. plus all my greensteel when I hit 12, plus just about every piece of raid cleric gear in game. Every level I run back to my TR bank like a fat kid to the ice cream truck to see what goodies I can have.

I find all-rounders incredibly fun. Human Clr 18/Monk 2 Tank/DPS/Offensive Caster/Defensive Caster OMFG***BBQ mixture (70s AC, 400s HP, 40-42 Wis 18th level casting, ~26-30 Str Two-Hand full BAB melee, Cleric spell-list). One level of Rogue would make it a skill monkey too, though I'm not sure how important/useful/necessary that is. This thread has been a huge source of inspiration for me (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=164323).

I only wish Divine Might didn't introduce yet another level of MAD requiring Cha in 14 to max out (picking Cleric Cha II and +4 Tome). With the Reincarnation option of 36pb, that may actually be doable... 15 Str (8)/14 Dex (6)/14 Con (6)/8 Int (0)/16 Wis (10)/14 Cha (6)

That'd turn out with all +4 Tomes, +5 level-ups and +4 Wis Enhancements (Monk offers 1), +1 Str enhancement (Human), +2 Cha enhancements, +1 Wis enhancement (Human), +6 items non-Cha/Int in 26/24/24/12/40/20. Probably the most MAD build ever. Ah well. The +2 Dex Ring, then like...Greensteel Weapon and Trinket for 44 Wis... would up that further to 26/26/24/12/44/20. Maybe it'd be a better idea to move some of those Wis level-ups to Str after all. 30 Str/26 Dex/24 Con/12 Int/40 Wis/20 Cha with Divine Might IV, Racial Toughness 2, PA, THF-line, Imp Crit, Extend/Maximize/Empower, MWP: Falchion or whatever, etc.

HP: Seems like 8*20 Base+8*20 Con+20 Heroic+23 Toughness+20 Racial Toughness+False Life & whatever (let's just say +30) for a total of 413 (and misc bonuses).
AC: Base 10 + 15 Wis + 8 Dex + 8 Armor + 4 Shield + 4 Insight + 7 Dodge (Raiments/Chatter) + 5 Deflection + 3 Natural Armor (Barkskin Pot) + 2 Recitation + 1 Monk + 1 Alchemical + 1 Haste = 69
Saves:
Base Fort = 11 Clr + 3 Monk + 7 Con = +21
Base Ref = 6 Clr + 3 Monk + 8 Dex + 1 Haste = +19 (Evasion)
Base Will = 11 Clr + 3 Monk + 15 Wis = +29 (add Resistance, Greater Heroism & Holy Aura for +11 - +13 to all)
To Hit: 20 BAB (DP) + 10 Str + 5 Weapon + 3 DF + 4 Morale + 1 Haste + 2 Tumbleweed = 45 (40 PA) alongside Human Versatility boosts and so on.
Damage: 2d4 (av. 5) + 15 Str + 5 Weap + 10 PA + 3 DF + 8 Divine Might = Av. 46 (15-20/x2) plus any weapon bonuses.
Spell Points: 983 Base + 27*15 + 110 (Energy Zealot) + Stupid Random Item = 1498 + Stupid Random Item
Spell Save DCs: 26-34.

That's something like what I'm going for, except on 28pb and thus 100% less Cha, 10 Dex and 14 Str, and 18 starting Wis (focusing on bare essentials for the 28pb char).

EDIT#2: Just realized you don't actually get Divine Might IV until 20 so it's out. Meh. Frees up two points, I guess. They can be crammed into Int or something for skill points.

I don't have a huge amount of experience - certainly not at very high levels.... but I love my Dwarf 1 Pal/X Clr. I solo a lot with him. Str/Con/Wis focus on stats. Pal level gives SP bonus and +1 AC/Saves +3 Concentration in aura. Wields big ole axes and other melee weapons and is just a laff to play. :)

I had the same build as my first 28pt cleric except human. She was a blast to play at low and mid levels. At higher levels that pali cost too much on the caster side and melee didn't stack up at high levels. I just TR'd her into an fvs and my other cleric is a pure caster cleric.

OP, for a first cleric, I'd say go Human or Dwarf cleric, max WIS, 14 CON (16 for dwarf), rest into STR. Don't be afraid to melee at low levels.

This will be an easy one for somebody, but I've read conflicting information about stats from enhancements opening other enhancements and/or feats.

I *believe* that an enhancement stat increase WILL open other enhancements (as indicated above), but an enhancement stat increase WILL NOT open up feats (for example dex requirement for TWF). Is this true? Thanks in advance!

no, you need a base+tome+lvlup charisma of 14/16/18/20 for DM 1/2/3/4

whatever is exchangable doesnt count for anything

Thank you for clearing that up for me.
