Yeah yeah yeah, I know, grease is fun. Blah blah blah I've heard it all, my guild invented grease skating. Anyway, this is how grease should be changed:

1. Remove friendly fire.
2. Implement grease as per stated in the PHB, outlined below:

Current: reflex save or fall, balance to stand, no check for movement.
Suggestion: Reflex save or fall. Balance check to stand. Another balance check to enable movement. If save is successful, balance check. Failure on the balance check by less than 5 prevents movement. Failure by more than 5 results in a fall. Successful balance checks allow for movement at half speed. Monsters that stand in the AoE of the spell are considered balancing, and thus flat-footed. They lose their dexterity bonus to AC, and rogues gain sneak attacks.

Oh, and grease needs to be able to be heightened and apply the casting stat to the DC if this suggestion is implemented.

Ive been fairly curious about this one, the spell while funny is very rarely used in any sort of reasonable function. I sopose it could be abused without friendly fire, but then again what is firewall?

Thank you. All bards would rejoice as they would finally get a reflex save aoe spell. Wizards and Sorcs have web and mass hold monster and cc bards have meh.

Yes, do.

Then maybe I won't get threatened with violent dismemberment every time I call one of my puppies to play with a group. :(

:D

In addition to being helpful to bards, this would give all arcane spell casters a worthwhile form of AoE crowd control at the lowest levels. In my pencil and paper groups, grease is THE STAPLE first level spell for low level play. Well, both grease and color spray. At least grease, as written, isn't like writing "I WIN" in permanent marker on a notebook and waving it around....

So, by abused, do you mean: used in a way that actually benefits the party? OMG!

I prefer the friendly fire on, but I agree with the accuracy corrections.

Same with everything else -- if wall of fire did damage to players, I'd learn to adapt -- all walls of fire would be seen a different way. At least you wouldn't have players sitting inside an enemy's fire wall going, "Hmm, why is my health bar going down?"
