Now that the cap is 20 regular stoneskin just does not cut it, Greater stoneskin and/or premonition would be a great benefit to arcane casters.

Premonition

Spell resistance : No

Premonition allows you to see a few moments into the future. This grants you damage reduction 30/adamantine; the spell absorbs 10 points of melee damage per caster level before collapsing.

Greater stoneskin

Spell Information
Spell level : Innate level: 6, Druid: 6, Sorcerer/Wizard: 6
School : Transmutation
Components : Verbal and Somatic
Range : Personal
Target/Area : Caster
Duration : 1 Hour * cLevel
600 Rounds (cLevel).
Save : Harmless

You gain damage reduction 20/adamantine. The spell absorbs 10 points of damage per caster level, to a maximum of 150, before fading.

These spells would help increase the survivability of arcane casters end game and would give us something a little more unique now that every other person has a stoneskin clicky or can UMD a wand.

This spell is already in game sorta - go fight the last aspect in offering of blood. I believe they call it corundum skin or some such mess though.

IMO, if premonition or something like it were implemented it should add to AC not DR.

I am against the greater stoneskin idea. There are already ways to get 20+ dr in game right now though they take some sacrifices to get. Adding a 20 dr stoneskin would devalue these other options.

These are both SELF only spells, so only wizards and sorcerers can benefit from them. Would that still devalue the things in game your talking about?

Arcane casters do not need better defenses. At this time, the improvements needed by those classes relate to their ability to attack enemies, not protect themselves.

Premonition should be akin to the PnP Foresight (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/foresight.htm), not NWN version, where it grants +2 insight to Reflex and AC, and immunity to flanking and sneak attack while the Dodge AC bonus is applicable. In addition, it should highlight the location of all traps in a large area of effect around the caster. I imagine this benefit, barring the Reflex and AC bonuses, would also extend to all party members in the same area of effect (as long as he is capable of speaking), as it reflects his ability to warn allies of impending danger in PnP.

Unfortunately, as a level 9 spell in the context of DDO it remains a little lacklustre. The AC and Reflex bonuses should probably scale with caster level, and/or it should also provide Evasion or Improved Evasion as a temporary buff.
