Kill as many as possible in X amount of time.

There are a number of quests that feature objectives that are to defend again the hordes spawning at a steady rate. That is all well and good, but as others have noted, for a well equipped group those objectives can end up being tedious as they end up waiting around between spawns.

So what I was thinking was, maybe it would be interesting to have the quest mech tweaked a bit. Maybe instead of Kobold Assault being, kill 200 Kobolds, maybe it is survive the Kobold waves for 15 minutes. And Kobolds just keep spawning as you kill them. At that point an option objective becomes "kill 10 Kobolds," then "kill 20 Kobolds" etc. So the more you kill the more XP you get.

I use Kobold Assault as an example (as I ran it last night and, as always, killing the last 20 is tedium incarnate as the spawn rates drops dramatically.) I am not suggesting retro fitting, just an option for future development.

They already have that mechanic, it's called adventure areas. Kill 10, 25, 50, etc.

Sure they don't keep spawning, but it's pretty easy to break and regroup to reset it, then go back in.

Sure, but what I was getting at, amd I guess I didn't explain myself clearly, is that the faster you kill things, the faster they spawn. Killing more in a set amount of time brings greater rewards...

While intriguing the implementation would be almost impossible to be fair.

Mass damage spells and Area of Effect Spells would rule the day. Unless you were making it the same level as Kobold Assault is where no one has effective Mass Damage spells.

For something along those lines however, check out the Desert Caravan Quest. It is a 10 minute timed quest. You get EXP points for every 2 minutes that the wagons you need to protect survive. Mobs keep spawning too, along with some rare mini bosses that you get EXP for as well. You need to be at least level 8 to open the quest thou. Maybe this one is what you are looking for.
