I hated zerg rushes in Starcraft, and I hate them even more in DDO.

It seems like every group I join, people only worry about the xp/time, like they're racing towards the finish with no intent of ever stopping to enjoy the scenery. I for one believe it is not the destination that matters but rather the trip that takes you there.

With that somewhat pretentious introduction out of the way, on to the main point. I'm looking for players, mostly newbies, with whom I could play at a slower pace. That means no checking online for puzzle solutions and no running forward like headless chicken without worrying about the side-objectives.

For instance, I've been wanting to do The Pit for a while, and I was told it was somewhat complicated. I'd enjoy being able to learn the workings of the place on my own. However, I just know that LFG will land me with a jerk who simply runs ahead and pulls all the right levels from memory, all the while questioning my usefulness in the group and randomly spouting "lol u suk" here and there like a Tourette's typographist.

So, is anyone interested? More experienced players are, of course, welcome, as long as they're willing to play along and let the newbies discover the solutions on their own.

There is no official run or anything, I'm just throwing the idea in here.

My character is Smulg, rogue 7. Add me to your friends list, I'll add you to mine. If this project really picks up, I might consider a newbie-only Tempest Spine run eventually.

Just makes sure you've made it clear ahead of time , and i'm sure you'll find plenty people wanting to enjoy the thrill of solving new quests.
make a static group /guild of like minded people.
BTW TS will take some some if you plan on learning/solving the whole run , good luck and enjoy.

Tried that before. There was invariably someone to solve every single puzzle from memory without consulting the rest of the team.

I just won't get that kind of playstyle from putting up a LFG and warning the group beforehand. There will always be players who don't give a damn about what the others want and the playstyle of the rest of the group.

All my LFM have the comment: Slow run, no zerg. Yet it always ends in zergs. It's depressing.

We tend to run that way. We've never enjoyed zerg runs, no matter what the game.

We have a threesome that usually runs together (myself, the hubby, and a good friend of ours.. sometimes four if another friend is on), so we usually have enough, but when we get to those dungeons that will require more than just our little band, or if you need a hand with something, feel free to let us know!

I'm the most talkative out of the group, so I'll volunteer myself. Just say hi to Smudge (rogue) or Thrallia (cleric).

since you are lvl 7, you might want to get a lvl or 2 before taking on TS.....as for the pit

look me up anytime I am on and I'll run with ya, allowing for a slow crawl (though I might drop a hint or 2, but not ruin the run).

If you don't see one of my below listed characters, ask anyone you see in my guild if I am on.

Cheers!

This is also how I like to play-my main is Fygan, who is a (surprise) rogue at lvl 6. I also have a lvl 2 fighter(Talolan) that I'm working on leveling. Feel free to get in touch.

sry to hear that,
we have a guild policy for new runs you talk or solve with prior knowledge, yer squleched and booted.
as for the TS i was an original member and got to solve that in the begining.
what a blast it was.

still it's not hard these days to get a full group of nubs fer a solving run. just have to be patient, or pre plan it .

I'm of the same mind. I like to take time and explore everything. (Heck, I even like to bash every single crate and barrel if I can just to see what might pop out...)

If you see me online, feel free to send me an invite, I'll crawl through whatever dungeon you happen to be running. (I'm also wanting to run the Pit as I haven't been through that dungeon yet...)

If you want a like-minded player, feel free to add me to your friends list.

One thing the community of this game is infamous for... mispronouncing names.

You could be named Bob and people would refer to you as:

"BOH-b"
"B-OHB"
"Robert"
"Class name" (barbarian)
"Race" (dwarf)

Starcraft, and the odious Zerg Rush strategy, is indeed where this phrase came from.

I zerg. But I zerg in my own groups and the word zerg is usually included in the comments of my lfm.

It is a shame that the OP has not been able to run quests as he wants. Perhaps consider joining a guild that shares your perspectives on the enjoyment of the game. Best of luck.

When the strategy is announced from the start, I'm fine with this. It still makes the run slightly less enjoyable to me, but I'm a reasonable man who can make concessions.

I ran Gwylan's Stand 8 times in a row trying to get Arlyn's Ring (spoiler: I never got it), and by the end, I joined zerg groups if they were the only thing available in LFG.

Anyway, I'll be adding everyone who shared my views on this to my friends list. See you guys online. But it'll probably be a while because I'm kind of absorbed in Baldur's Gate 2 right now.

I'd also like to add to the list of quests I want to run slowly Tear of Dhaakan(sp?). My log says I ran it five times, yet I still don't know where the tear shards are.

I'm all for slower runs, even on repeats. I love running Gwylan's Stand or the Tear of Dhakaan, and am almost always willing to help out with new or old quests, under level or over level, normal, hard, or elite.

Look me up, level 7 favored soul, Leio d'Phiarlan.

I'd love to find like-minded folks! Still low level (1barb/3cleric, and 2sorc) and would enjoy grouping with people that let rogues tackle traps, read the NPC dialog, etc. I don't mind speed runs (see my Muckbane thread), but I'd like to actually *experience* the content the first time before moving on to the next.

Torgrim (cleric) and Mordro (sorc)

Never been much a fan of zerg'n groups myself, but if thats all I can find I take what I can get... that being said I'd love to join ya in any of your groups if you have the room for a ranger with a little schooling in the ways of rouges. As a side note, most of the good folks in my guild follow your ideals in regards to zerging and I'm sure any one of them would love to join you also.

I just hit level 6 last night, and plan to add you to my friends list tonight when I log. I hope I can at least meet you in game sometime, as I too understand your issue when trying to find like minded folks.

I've been in a non-zerg group with 1 zerging member. It was a 1rogue/3cleric. He ran way ahead of the party all the time and died... a lot. Then he would whine to us about not keeping up. Pretty soon he left the group and we redid the area and finished Water Works with no deaths with the ******** battle cleric out of the group. From that experience I learned that a zerging member will just stress everyone out and ruin any enjoyment the game has to offer. Sometimes I find myself in a solo "zerg" position where I just want to get the quest done and over with, which is kind of negatively effecting how I use my stealth characters so I switch back and forth a lot to keep myself in check.

I really wish u good luck pal. The Pit is the worst quest ever and if ur trying to make it without any the help of an experienced player ull find ur self in real troubles and not because of the puzles :)

Sometimes ull just have to zerg dude. I recomend u to try solving each quest on each dificulty and then decide if ur going to look for that special reward or just skip and look for new objectives. For f2p player zerg is a necesity, specially doing sigil runs.

The Pit is the worst quest ever ........

The Pit is probably one of the two quests that divide opinion the most; Coalescence Chamber is perhaps the other.

I like the Pit, and there are plenty of others that also like it. Sure it is challenging and complex, and it takes a fair amount of time to complete - an inexperienced party is likely to spend a few in there hours to complete. I think my first Pit experience in an all newbie group must have taken at least 4 hours to complete! But we had so much fun doing it, but then nobody in the party was of the “zerger” type.

However, completing a quest at a fast pace does have it's time and place too, such as repeating quests for specific rewards/named loot or later in the game when gathering ingredients for green steel items. It is a fact that Turbine's design for some quests and modules necessitate multiple completions in order to gain the "rewards", this tends to encourage a rushing to complete play style.

We should try to respect what is written in the LFM message, but so many do not even read the message - try suggesting a light RP group and see what may happen :)

Best advice, as many have said, is to build up a list of friends that have a similar play style to yours.
Perhaps a no zerg LFM chat channel may be worth starting up.

I am generally very happy to take things at a relaxed pace and to let first timers have the freedom to explore at will, so look me up if we are on at the same time.

I don't like Zerg runs either. It ruins a large portion of the atmosphere. Plus, when newer players see more experienced players Zerg, they think anyone can zerg any quest, and that's just not true. Thus disastrous pug runs. /sigh

I'm not very high level but I have a level 5 Wizard, Sigbjorn, and a 1 BRD/ 1 FGT, Achillea.

If anyone out there wants to do slow runs on any server, you can seek me out.
All my chars are in the Knights of the Shadows guild. And 90%+ chance it's me, as my friends are part time at best lately.

Just remind me that you want to go slow, and tell me if you want no spoilers.

I do get bored easily, and don't like to just stand around though.

But I enjoy stealth, and setting up dirty tricks for monsters....also enjoy exploring. But there's little in the Harbor that I haven't seen before.

I might have to go off on my own and break barrels or something if you are too slow though. :)
Or run off and loot optional chests...etc.

I only see zerging a quest when you are repeating it for the millionth time try to get a particular item or reward (ie relics for GH, tapestries, invader tokens, bronze tokens, or specific static loot). I do believe however, it should be in the groups decision if this is done this way. For first timers through a quest, or when trying to learn the quest then it is good to take your time and figure everything out. i am also of the like mind to do optionals, and traps, and break barrels cause I am an XP monger lol.

I enjoy both paces, sometimes i just enjoy taking time in a quest 9even if it has been the millionth time) just because i enjoy the quest. I am also of the like mind to go with the parties decision.

If you ever need an extra feel free too look up any of my toons.

I haven't been playing much these last few days because, well... as I said, Baldur's Gate 2 has been getting most of my playtime, and it just so happens that I started a new PnP campaign last week. But when I do get to spend time with the game, I'm definitely adding all of you.

With that said, Nitestalker, you wouldn't happen to be a former WoW player? Feathermoon realm? Probably not, because Nightstalker and its variants are pretty common MMO names all things considered (no offense intended, it's just a fact of life), but if it's really you, man would that be funny.

I almost always will do a quest at least once without zerging (if I repeat a lot, then yeah, but the first time has to be savored...and often the 2-3 next times too!)

You can look me up, Fareko (cleric, 7), always partying with my girlfriend, rogue, Avaene. We're the kind who'll stop to get every door, every chest, and leave no box unturned, as well as trying to solve the quests like if they were from a single player game. The worse that can happen is we die! (And we do die a lot, but hey, the death penalty in this is near non-existant...)

Question: How does one create a channel? Just type /joinchannel channelname and if it doesn't exist, it's created?

If channels are server-specific, I nominate /nozerg as the channel, and will be making it tonight, US Eastern time.

Piping in as Avaene, I'm definately up for discovering quests. Spot maxed and ready to go! Just try not to run ahead of me and into traps ;). Also, we're level 9 now. Aparently you can get a fair bit of xp if you insist on maxing bonuses and doing all optional objectives.

I will have to join that.. I have only been playing a few weeks and every quest I have done has been done with hirelings. I do prefer real company though. I am usually up for anything anytime I am on. If you need a 6 ranger with somewhat decent rogue skills and corny one liners give me a hollar!

On a side note, have any of you found a good guild filled with "take your time" attitude minded players? I am still looking. I can't seem to find a guild that has a good number of players in my level range on at the time I play that look like they are actually running together.

-Bring Out Yer Dead looked promising but they are all higher level than me lol

-Covenant of the Phoenix rarely has anyone on at my playtime which stinks because the idea of joining a gaming community with multiple chapters across a diverse number of MMORPG's sounded like the perfect solution to trying to find a great guild everytime I switch games.

I am looking into Platinum Knights atm and trying to make a decision but i haven't had a chance to speak with Gummy yet in game.

I'm very interested in a nozerg guild or group. I've been playing MMO's for a dozen years or so at this point and there's just no point in rushing to the end because there's nothing there but boredom and ennui.

I'll look for the nozerg channel when I log in next. I really like the atmospherics and immersion DDO offers and I think some elite nozerg dungeons would be an amazing experience.
