Does strength come into play when using a repeater crossbow?

No.
However, if you have 6 strength and have -2 mod. You will do 2 less damage per hit.
If you have more than 10, like 12 which has +1 mod, it will not add any damage.
Overall it will subtract and never add.
If you want best damage, just get your strength to 10 though enchantments from gears or spells.
Save your build points on something more important like dex and con.

Wrong str has no effect on xbows at all only affects melee damage. that being said a str 6 isnt really a good idea for anyone just a tiny bit of stat damage and your helpless

Another thing to keep in mind with low STR repeater builds - if you get encumbered, your DEX bonus to armor class gets capped (at +3, I believe). So when your little halfling machine-gunner picks up that second set of masterwork full plate out of a chest, his +8 AC modifier could suddenly drop to +3. STR is never quite a dump stat...at least carry +STR items/Bull's STR potions for emergencies.
