View Full Version : Cannith builds

So with the addition of Cannith, it seems that a lot of existing builds are going to be a lot harder to make because of their reliance on 32 point builds, +2/+3 tomes and end-game gear. You could go back to some of the earlier builds in the game's history, but lots has changed in the interim.

So what are some good builds for Cannith?

They really don't change very much at all.

Take the exploiter for instance, dump the int, leave everything else the same, and substitute some other feat for combat expertise.

Done...

Barely any builds really need any of that stuff. The exception would be someone starting with 14 dex and using a +3 tome for GTWF.

most builds don't need all those tomes .. although there might be fewer TWF strength builds for a while..

For example, here's a 28-pt build that I posted for a friend (http://housetharashk.net/htforum/showthread.php?t=2101). Although I included tomes in the build, only the +2 dex tome is required before taking gTWF. And even then, the build has that at lvl14 - if a tome isn't available by then, take a junk feat and swap it in once you get one. By the time you're lvl14, you should be running vale quests, or at least hitting titan/dragon, where +2 tomes are bound rewards, or even the reaver where you can start finding +3 tomes.

A lot of Combat Expertise builds can just plan to pick it up endgame. Start with 10 and wait for a +3 tome, it will happen eventually. Unless your build really needs the int for skills and a few intimidates and rogues will. Earn that 5 AC!

If I were to play Cannith I'd start with a healer. Easy to get in any group, easy to grind that favor to make more complex toons, easy to build and forgiving for 28 pt builds the extra stats will go totally un-noticed.

If I were to put just one tip though it would be just dont max any stats a 19 or 17 and sometimes even a 15 is just as good in so many cases.

I'll be starting a 28 pt dwarven cleric, cant really mess that up and take it all the way. I'll most likely get favor too while i'm at it, unless they allow us to buy 32pt favor. From there who knows.

I'm probably going to make a rogue/cleric or something to start with, to try and get all the favor I need to unlock drow. After that, I want to make a drow rogue/bard. Or maybe a paladin/bard. Singing knight. :)

A paladin/bard would need to be both lawful and chaotic simultaneously.

Until Turbine implements support for MAD characters (Multiple Alignment Disorder), this won't happen.

Tis a pity, as the Bard and Monk classes could have synergy in some builds (Warchanters could splash Monk for 2 badly needed combat feats and Evasion)

Aw, that's right, I totally forgot bards had to be chaotic.

There goes that great idea!

Think I'll go with a Human warchanter to start off - self-sufficient, solo capable, will at least get me to 1750 pretty quickly.

Don't forget, you can buy Drow with Turbine points in the store, as well as +1 tomes.

See ya on Tuesday :)

A stupid question maybe?

If you have applied a +1 tome at ie Dex and then you find a +3 dex tome later can you overwrite the +1 tome with the +3 tome then?

Well a Favored Soul is actually quite good to multiclass with a paladin. Quite natural choice to be honest. 2 lvls of paladins gives you TONS better saves much due to the fact that you are heavy dependant on CHA.

** Edited = I also would LOVE to get a reply to my question above regarding tomes. Ie if you apply a +1 tome and then find a +3 tome can you then overwrite the +1 tome with the +3 tome?

Yes - if you find a higher level tome, you will overwrite the effect of the first one (thus total bonus from a +3 tome is +3 to the stat, regardless of whether you had eaten a +1 or +2 tome to the same stat already).

Except that Favored Soul's already have great saves, and you still fail on a 1. There is no reason to MC Paladin, FVS 18/Monk 2 is much better. Keeps level 9 spells, tier III PRE's when they are released etc...extra high saves versus 30+ saves already in everything is not worth that.

WF Wizards-Max Con/Int
Dwarf Clerics-Max Wis/Con
THF Dwarves/WF Max Con/Str
Rogue/Ranger Mixes

That should do it. Those will still be pretty viable even after you get 32 pointers

I think I'm going to roll up a 28pt Human FS and run her to cap.

Focus on heals and buffs, maybe command spec'ed for crowd control. Light on melee, but not healbot.

Any critiques or suggestions?

Its going to be fun starting out on a fresh world with limited resources and gear available. Even if that only lasts for a few weeks.

I'm going FvS DPS caster focus but still very strong healing

Are glancing blows going to change the focus on high ac and such at end game, or will the end game be pretty much the same post unlimited?

WF pally with addy body to start.

AC is king until GH, and you can hit 1750 favor before then.

After that, some 32 point build - haven't gotten that far yet. Prob a rogue assassin.

wf sorc is THE best 28 pt. build to make. Max cha and rest into con. Lots of SP's for self healing and dps is a must on a server with no money. Grind favor to 1750 ASAP. End of story.

I went with a warforged ranger/monk/rogue (planned split 18/1/1) and dumped the DD & OL skills because I don't want to do rogue stuff.

Stats at start were 14/14/15/13/11/7. Level stat increases into STR. Planned ending stats with +3 tomes & enhancements but no items are 22/20/20/16/14/10. Feats: dodge, mobility, spring attack, toughness, improved critical: slashing, exotic weapon: khopesh, power attack, two weapon defense. Projected AC: 52 unbuffed/58 self buffed/69 raid buffed w paladin nearby. Skills: hide, move silently, jump/spot/tumble/swim, balance, repair, UMD.

If you're just wanting to get to 400, favor Impaqt's Elven Cleric/Rogue Build (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=126952) should work out OK. I've tried this, and it can work. Keep in mind the guy that put it together notes it's an advanced build and gear dependent.

I believe those are called "Wizards" and "Sorcerors" ;)

That said, a Cleric is always a good idea to start on a server. Highly needed, and great solo capacity. And as no race has no particular advantage over another here, you can happily start out with whatever race you want.

Pure or /2 Monk splash will probably both be popular.

That, and the the WF arcane caster.

28 point battle bard...

Didn't wanna lose 15 levels of bard for AC song -- that prevents me from going 6 ftr for kensai.

Strengths: Bard songs pretty well pimped out...only losing 1 point from lack of L20 inspire confidence. Decent DPS with pimped out DA's. Party buffage is nice, and could self-buff scroll/wand fire shield, stoneskin, shield, etc. without too much trouble. Self-heals. The primary benefit a bard brings to any raid is undispellable songs, and this build gives that. Fun.

Limitations: Can't main tank -- won't have enough AC or HP for it. Spell DC's are terrible, this build can't do any meaningful CC. Poor group healing, not even really capable of backup healing too well. Maye a bit of spot heals to help out, but that's about it.

Notes: In the build I have taken IC: slashing at L12...I would swap this out for Extend after I get dual min 2's (which are keen and make IC feats mostly redundant).

I didn't go tome-crazy when building...a few +2's, a +3 and a +4. Used some +1's early on for less suckage while leveling and to satisfy pre-reqs for Imp. and Greater TWF. (bought with otherwise unspent turbine points).

I had to sacrifice somewhere given that this is a 28 point build, and I'd need a starting 16 DEX to qualify for TWF feat chain. Tough to find the points while keeping STR up, so CHR and CON suffered some. Still should have enough in each attribute to do what I want to do.

Lastly, my L18 feat was Mental Toughness. Doesn't really fit with this build, but I didn't see much else that would help much more. Looking for input for this choice.
