View Full Version : UI Improvement suggestions

Some of these have been said but heres my suggestions on what would make the UI go from dud to stud.

1) In AC1 we could zoom out to an overhead view and see about 50 yards in every direction. Then we could move the camera around and zoom to most any point in between. It would be cool if you could greatly increase the zoom out cap in DDO as ithe camera restriction has always bugged me. I understand there's not much need to see 50 yards away in most dungeons\sewers\crypts\basements etc that we usually explore in, but in many places, a wider view would let us be more aware of whats going on around us. I'm unsure if this was a design decision for more immersion and to force our focus on whats in front of us instead of a engine/sys req limitation. All I know is that halflings stare at alot of giant nether regions in the higher levels

2) The Lamannia map changes are great, everyone agrees. I'd like to see a way to be more aware of which blue dot (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19rVKy_pfFU)is who. Maybe a color by class system or assignable colors/symbols that we can assign to individuals (and will stick with that toon) by right clicking on their party or map icon. Maybe just a certain way to distinguish guild members or those on your friends list.

3) The simpleness of DDO hotbars have amazing functionality seeing that everything you could want to use, cast, eat or equip can be put pretty much anywhere on the screen you'd like. I'd like to have hotbars in different slot amounts than 10. Allow us to choose between say, 1-20 hotbars slots on each bar. I usually have too many or too few convineient places to put similar items. Allowing the hotbars to move past the screen edges would achieve a similar effect. It would also be nice to have the hotbars snap to each other, screen edges and other UI elements. Also, the 'lock the hotbars' function is only good for saving screen space. Oh and let us get rid of that 'system' hotbar which brings up the game options windows. I always have to hide that under my weapons and it pops out at the worst times.

4) Let us lock items to specific packs and implement a sort button please. I dislike having to constantly micromanage the items which I always carry a little less then I like messy packs.

5) I was going to mention chat and combat logging here but since I doubt development time is an issue on this one, theres no need to ask for it anymore.

6) This one is sort of halfway implemented with the item links in party loot messages, but a better function would be to allow us to drag items to the chat window to create a hyperlink the receiving party can click on and view the item examination through tell or any other chat.

7) This ones more of just an idea but I'd like to see armor and equippable items able to be put into a set slot like the weapon sets. Some of my characters put on a different necklace for a specific fight which means I need to put on a different belt, which means I can use my other bracers. Let us put a few items into a set to equip it all at once. I'm not sure how this plays into the already non realistic aspect of changing robes and boots while swordfighting, but it would be nice nonetheless. Armor swap times could throw a wrench in this one but I like the idea. I have accessiories with gaming macros but none of them always get the timing right.

8) I haven't found any DDO skins I've liked since the skin customizations were released. I could probably enjoy some of the DDO lite stuff but I'd have to figure out how to take just the pieces I'd want. Maybe we could see an updated optional skin set or two designed by the fine Turbine artist who drew the green boots?

9) Hiding the UI (ALT-Z) obviously handicaps anyone using it in combat. Perhaps an alternate configuration which leaves some vital elements visible such as healthbars and party chat, but hides hotbars and maps etc.

10) Individual volume sliders would greatly attribute to my gaming experience.

One of the problem I have with the DDO hotbars is how you have to keep them on your screen 24/7.

I'd like the option to reveal or hide all of them but the "active" one by pressing one key.

I'm sure everyone complains about this, but I'm sooooo frustrated when I'm running around in a quest that I'm totally new to, and the maps don't really work. I get lost, party members have to save me or direct me to save myself, and it's annoying. Especially after I've run through an area, so the "map" should have been "drawn" already. I don't mind not seeing a map before I run through an area, that makes sense. But after I've run through an area and I jump into an embedded cave or area I need to see where I am in relation to my party members in the same area. That's all. Thanks. Now I feel better.

There is a technical reason for this, in that they can't display multiple maps within one instance.

I hope Phax is working on that one. That is, by far, my biggest map pet-peeve as well.
