I noticed in the release notes that bards will be getting different equipment as a reward for the tutorial. Can you also change the ranged weapon rogues get? They are awarded a minor flaming Longbow, which they aren't even proficient with. A Shortbow would be more appropriate.

If you read the rest of the notes you will see:

In the New Player experience, the Ember Longbow has been trimmed, and is now an Ember Shortbow

They should consider making the rapier finesse as well, as it makes Dex builds far too weak if they don't start with 1 BAB.

Or, as others have suggested (including Aspenor ), doing away with Weapon Finesse as a Feat and automatically using the better of DEX or STR to hit with finesse weapons (and using the better of STR or DEX to hit with thrown weapons, i.e., everyone has the Brutal Throw Feat).

At worse, remove the 1 BAB prerequisite on Weapon Finesse.

That would be a good compromise between the way it is now and (essentially) giving to everyone for free.

To further take this down the tangent, I'd like to see a Finesse Any Weapon Feat. Mongoose's Conan D20 game (the best D20 game out there, IMO) allows weapons other than "light" weapons to be finessed (e.g., certain swords if wielded two-handed).

I like it, too. I'll sign this one.

Hmm... Not too sure about this one. Interesting in concept, but it might become overpowered.

As a member of the GIMP guild I rolled an Elf Monk/Ranger/Cleric none of which get a Base BAB +1 for level 1. So I didn't get weapon finesse for awhile. Beleive me you don't need it in small adventures, you can hit anything regardless

I can't really disagree with the possibility, because I've obviously never seen it in action in DDO, but it doesn't sound like it would be, especially since it would cost a Feat. And it certainly doesn't seem to be in Conan (http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/home/detail.php?qsID=1449&qsSeries=7), although I've only played it once.

That's because low levels are balanced for the weakest. If adventures were balanced for fighters and barbarians, finesse rogues would get wiped.

I don't think it would be overpowering but I don't like it.

Why not? Is it aesthetically displeasing somehow? If you were playing a PnP Conan game (and you were not the GM), would you lobby for its exclusion, or sit silently and bear it? If you were the GM, would you exclude it?

You know, there are games where a combination of DEX and STR is used to determine attack bonuses with all weapons. D&D's "STR for melee, DEX for missile and 'light'
weapons" does not define "elegance" in terms of RPG weapon attack bonus calculation.

i think a decent way to do it would be something like the armors maximum dex bonus.

Say a Greataxe has full STR bonus applied to its attack and damage, but has a maximum dexterity bonus to attack and damage of 1 or even 0

Say a Rapier has full Dex bonus applied to Attack and Damage, but has a maximum STR applied at 1 or even 0.

Other weapons would obviously have to be argued about and figured out what really comprised a good system.

Not sure how this would work implemented, however it would take a LONG time in my oppinion to get this system buttoned down. The AC system would have to be modified as well, to compensate for the increased hit and damage of most characters.

PNP, DDO, either way i think this system would have its merits and flaws(vampire: the masquerade joke)

Oh, I know, but this game is based on D&D and that would be a too big deviation for my tastes.

So it's just a personal preference thing. Piffle.

Everyone knows that ~5000 is the exact perfect number of posts. > 10,000 is ostentatious.
