1) Do you need Unarmed strike to use BOTH hands in an attack? If a fighter goes bare knuckles is he only getting one attack a round...but if he had Unarmed strike he would get two?

2) If the answer to (1) is yet Unarmed strike allows the use of both hands to strike then does Two weapon fighting reduce A penalty for the second hand??? Or does it simply allow the use of two kama fighting?

3) If you take two weapon fighting and then two weapon defense will you be able to apply active DR to your Blocks with NO weapons in hand?

TWF is what "adds" attacks when fighting unarmed. These attacks have no 1/2 str penalty and no -2 to hit like regular TWF. Going unarmed without TWF is like sword and board (5 attacks oer chain) with GTWF you have 10 attacks per chain (no additional animations).

Two weapon defense will not add any ac when fighting unarmed, nor will two weapon blocking help either.

hmmm I never thought about it that way. So the TWF and GTWF DONT give extra attack annimations but they give the extra attacks in the combat text box. Is it one attack "per round" with TWF and 2 extra attacks per round with GTWF? And is a round considered the attack animation time?

Does it not count the TWF Defense or Blocking because your only equiping ONE hand wrap and those feats apply to TWO weapons being wielded?

So in essence a level one monk with Unarmed strike will still only get one attack a round even though he has two fists. Its not like having two kamas at level one.

DDO has two forms of Two Weapon Fighting (TWF); Armed and Unarmed.

Armed: You don't have to have the feats to TWF, simply equip two weapons. This form uses a different animation from single weapon fighting. Without feats you gain 1 off-hand attack hook (Two at BaB 15 iirc). You also suffer a -4 penalty to attack rolls and 1/2 Str modifier to damage for the off hand. It's important to understand that attack hooks are separate attack & damage rolls that don't change the animation.

Two Weapon Fighting: Reduces penalties for dual wielding to -2 per hand (provided you use a light weapon in your off hand).

Improved and Greater TWF both add additional off-hand attack hooks to the animation. I think at BaB 15 this provides 5 off-hand hooks per full animation.

While using Armed TWF all sub feats work. IE: TW Defense, TW Blocking and Oversized TWF.

Unarmed: Without TWF you cannot dual wield.

Two Weapon Fighting: All unarmed combat is Two-Weapon, you cannot turn this off while unarmed. There are no penalties applied for Unarmed TWF. Specifically, there is no -2 to attack or 1/2 str penalty applied to off-hand strikes. The Unarmed animation does NOT change in any way. One off hand attack hook is added to the chain (With a second one at BaB 15 iirc). One handwrap applies to all Unarmed attacks.

Improved and Greater TWF: Additional off hand "hooks" are added to the sequence.

While TWF Unarmed no sub feats work. Additionally, bonuses from the Tempest Enhancement are disabled. (Tested this on Lamannia)

Unarmed TWF is faster than Armed simply because the Armed animation takes longer to complete.

DDO doesn't really use rounds...As you progress in BaB you're attack animations will change to incorporate additional attacks. 1 at BaB 0, 2 at BaB 1, 3 at BaB 5, 4 at BaB 10 and 5 at BaB 15. As designed each new attack actually increases the amount of time to complete the animation. Each animation gradually speeds up as your BaB increases. This decrease in attack speed is balanced (kind of) by the attack progression bonus. There's a chart some where that shows animation speeds for different weapon styles at each BaB but I don't have a link handy.

While standing still DDO increases you passive attack bonus for subsequent attacks (Contrary to PnP which reduces your attack bonus for additional attacks. At BaB 15 your attack progression is +0 +0 +5 +5 +10.

Quite possibly. Monk didn't have access to TWF while unarmed when they were first released. After a large uproar from the community they were given the current implementation which simply adds off-hand hooks to the Unarmed animation. Specific reasoning behind this? Ask the devs :).

Correct. On the other hand Monks have quite a few advantages while Unarmed TWF'ing that others don't receive.
