from the Magic Item Compendium:

TRANSMUTING
Price: +2 bonus
Property: Weapon
Caster Level: 13th
Aura: Strong; (DC 21) transmutation
Activation: —

This odd-looking weapon has both sharp and
blunt sections. Its pommel or grip is set with a
diamond, a piece of jet, a sapphire, and a ruby.
In addition, it is inlaid with both adamantine
and silver.

When you score a successful hit with a
transmuting weapon against a creature
that has damage reduction, that attack is
resolved normally. At the start of your next
turn, however, the weapon transforms,
taking on the properties required to overcome
that creature’s damage reduction.

Once so changed, the weapon overcomes
the designated type of damage reduction
for 10 rounds, or until you strike a creature
that has a different type of damage reduction.
In this case, the weapon transforms in
the same manner to overcome that damage
reduction instead. If the target has multiple
types of damage reduction, the weapon
overcomes all of them. If the creature gains
a new type of damage reduction after initially
being struck (from changing its form,
for example), the weapon must change again
before it can overcome the new type.

A transmuting weapon does not gain
any other benefit of the properties it takes
on, and it always deals normal damage.

Prerequisites: Craft Magic Arms and
Armor, fabricate.
Cost to Create: Varies.

That the current implementation of Transmuting is far more powerful than the one in PnP?

Was it your point?

transmuting is as it should be. this is how it is implemented in pnp. how is transmuting in ddo now different from pnp dnd magic item book

Was it your point?transmuting in pnp bypasses all dr including epic dr. so how is ddo transmuting more powerful than pnp. if that were the case orc and elemental dr would be bypassable with transmuting nd it is not.

i am not sayin that transmuting should be easy to obtain but maybe it should stay as it is as per dnd pnp. i do think it should be a way higher lvl item like ml 12 just to get transmuting as a property on a weapon. but the effort and cost of a min 2 would be enough cost for the lvl of wepon it is

so your point is......

i think this as close as it can be without writing extensive and specific code for the property of transmutin that would make it calibrate on the first hit

Since the version of transmuting is far more powerful is DDO, the comparison is worth very little.

In fact, what you said is totally false. They are not close in power.

I will agree with you there, but once it was introduced as a low level item there is no way of changing that. There are too many low level transmuters floating around. It may not be desirable to many people, but it will help with some balance issues, just like the WoP change will do the same. When they added them to the loot tables to begin with I couldn't believe how easy they made them to get and how low a toon could get them.

well maybe they should make all tansmutinng wepons change to metaline and leave min 2 as transmuting. it is hard enough to make and deserves to be that much better than normal llot
