View Full Version : Piece of Chalk

There are basically three quintessential pieces of adventuring equipment: 50' of rope, a 10' pole, and a piece of chalk. All of these have been long missing. This post is to provide a suggestion for a way to add chalk to the game.

Chalk is very similar to a wand. It is an expendable "clickie" item that is equipped in one hand. When used, a marker is drawn on the floor where the character is standing. Multiple uses draw over one another. The marker to be drawn is selected from a set in the gameplay options menu.

Commentary: Many games have implemented personal markers, so this shouldn't be hard to add and would be very convenient. Simple bitmap layering on top of the existing textures that are just temporary in the instance. You can limit chalk to only being used in quests. Allow chalk to be purchased in multiple colors and you have a whole new industry!

The question came up, "what is it used for?"

Well, as a marker, there are many uses. It can be used to mark places you've been. It can be used to help figure out mazes (Crucible). As chalk is water resistant, it can be used even when under water to help you keep your bearings (Shadow tombs). It can be used to leave a trail so late party members know which way you went to catch up to you. Or conversely, so zerging party members can leave markers so the rest of the party knows which way has been snow-plowed. If you're party is actually patient enough to use a thief for scouting and traps, the thief could use the marker to indicate a stop point when it's not safe for the party to pass.

Chalk has lots of uses!

And if it came in a nice light shade of pink, we'd finally have this rouge people keep talking about.
