A weekly look at what's happening around the forums! Tips, community spotlights, Turbine info, and more!

These players have gone above and beyond the call with a great contribution to the community!

This week we thought we'd spotlight something unique and fun. Steelblade (http://forums.ddo.com/member.php?u=42276) had a very interesting way of freeing up some inventory space - giving away items if you could answer their riddles! Thank you for bringing something special to the community this week Steelblade. Go check out the riddles (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=175261&highlight=riddle), and feel free to add your own!

Helping new or returning players, one topic at a time!

DDO Dictionary: Arcane Spell Failure
Definition: The chance that a spell fails and is cast to no effect because the caster’s ability to use a somatic component (the physical hand waving associated with casting) was hampered by armor. Bards can ignore the arcane spell failure chance for light armor when casting bard spells.

This is different than a Concentration Failure, which can be brought on by monster attacks.

In a world where threads are tasty and posts are food, one Cube has chosen a question.
Now he's looking for answers...

This Week's Question, Lanuric (http://forums.ddo.com/member.php?u=36685) asks:
Does anyone know of a decent shuriken other than Vorpal (doesnt do much dmg) or a Greensteel Shuriken (which I am making in absence of)?

This week's answers:
CaseStringer (http://forums.ddo.com/member.php?u=26575) says: My Drow cleric on Thelanis is holding onto a +3 Holy shuriken of Grtr Giantbane until my Monk gets high enough to use it.. .It wouldn't be bad in GH/Tor if they improve the 1000 stars enhancement to make the fire rate SIC! :D It is good enuff to tick off Dem Bigguns!!

Hakushi (http://forums.ddo.com/member.php?u=11412) says: There's a shuriken in the end rewards list of Co6, it's +2 Icy Burst, it's name is Snowstar.

Enir (http://forums.ddo.com/member.php?u=138669) says: +1, Keen, +3 Deception, Returning
Still not much damage but I have hit mobs from distance and they don't seem to know where it came from. Takes a number of throws but they do die, without ever knowing what hit them :D

The Cube does not understand the importance of the question. Why would you need a shuriken? The Cube is able to destroy its enemies merely by touching them. However, this leads to much loneliness for The Cube. The Cube is lonely, oh, so lonely. :(
- Your friend, The Cube

Next week's question, SniptheShadow (http://forums.ddo.com/member.php?u=134540) asks:
Your account is being stripped of all characters, save one, and your character is being stripped of all gold and all items, save one. Pick a character and a single item to begin rebuilding.

Think you have a good question for the community? Let The Cube judge!
Send your question for the Community to DDO@turbine.com - your questions/answers could make it past The Cube's belly, and into the next Chronicle!

Someone told us we were going to be getting more info over the birthday celebration right?

That ends on Monday and since Kates post we have gotten one picture/wallpaper and the fighter capstone, unless I am forgetting something.

Tarrant,

it would be really nice for the 'question of the week' if you provided a link to the post in which the question was asked rather than a (somewhat useless) link to the player's user profile. Are we supposed to answer the question in the original thread (seems to make more sense) or in this thread (seems to make less sense)?

Regards,

Garth

p.s. nice to see our Chinese players getting a shout-out this week. Ni Hao to them from Garth!

I would keep my main Jefro, who has max favor and is a cleric. A cleric is a good class to rebuild your item collection because clerics are always welcomed. I would keep my lucky hat, yes it does not do anything but look good, but even without armor atleast I am going around in style.

I would keep my monk, Xennkari, as I have the most fun playing him. Sure, I may not get into every party but still ... And as for the one item, I would have to agree my Lucky Hat. After all, it looks the best and everything else is easier to replace. :)

I'd keep one of my nameholders for future characters and a lump of coal.

Like that, when I'd come on the forums to whine that I lost everything, there won't be a smartass to tell me "What are you complaining about? You've still got one high level alt and one good/rare item!" Wait. There'll probably be one who will tell me that I still got a lump of coal anyway...

Easy one for me...I'd keep my Ranger/Monk and his Mineral II rapier. Even nekked with his rapier he has a 40+ AC, can hit any mob in the game, and has halfling dragonmarks for self-healing. More importantly, he's a halfling...his breakdancing is unstoppable! Silly monk splash...

/tinfoilhaton

Wait a minute....why are you asking? Is stripping down to one item what you'll do just prior to triggering the new respec feature? Ah yes, secret focus group testing disguised as a question of the week! You can't get anything past us...

I was VERY disappointed in this fact. I really thought that was the single glimmer of positive regarding communication about this mod. If nothing else, I could at least count on a weekly update from Eladrin.

Yeah, yeah, I know it was meant for capstones and PrE's, but there is absolutely no reason it couldnt keep previewing a new enhancement, feat, spell, etc. Even if it just took Kate's post and gave the nitty gritty detail on each spell mentioned...a bit each week...what could that hurt?

Turbine, don't underestimate the goodwill or amount of patience those weekly posts were achieving. They were a big positive...let's keep em going!

Wait. I have something more persuasive: it'll probably make the respec threads stop.

Did that work?:D

Yeah. There are probably higher level enhancements that could preview like Bard Inspire Damage IV or Ranger Favored Damage V?

New features? Anything?

The Cube does not understand the importance of the question. Why would you need a shuriken?

Well...if your brother's in Monastary and Rainbow had decent returning shuriken (vorpal would be perfect), he (she? it? they?) could take out those pesky hasted casters at range. Of course, that's a slippery slope: if you gave them shuriken, then soon they'd be lobbying for tabi boots and ninja hoods, then probably a blow gun, and then a cooler fighting soundtrack, and on and on ...

This begs the question how do cubes reproduce? Are their male and female cubes? Are they like slimes and oozes that reproduce by spliting?

As one who has been killed and eaten by a cube (in the pit trap in Rainbow in the Dark) i find this comment very suspicious.

Tarrant,

it would be really nice for the 'question of the week' if you provided a link to the post in which the question was asked rather than a (somewhat useless) link to the player's user profile. Are we supposed to answer the question in the original thread (seems to make more sense) or in this thread (seems to make less sense)?

We don't always get the Cube questions here on the forums. Some people mail their questions to the Cube...

Send your question for the Community to DDO@turbine.com - your questions/answers could make it past The Cube's belly, and into the next Chronicle!

So there is no thread to link to. We link to the profiles to show that a real person asked them ;)

As for answers, we've seen answers directly in the chronicle, as PMs, and also through the email. Any of these methods are fine, the Cube shall sample all.
