This post is not meant to be a B*$#! session, but an observation as to what I think was actually meant to attact new players and teach them the ropes, will in fact turn them away, because they will have nobody to help them.

Let me start by saying, I dont really mind doing the Korthos Village or Korthos Island quests. I did the "old" versions of the same quests (usually N/H/E) when leveling many new toons. So its not the fact that they need to be done (of couse with the addition of Misery's Peak) in order to reach the harbor, but that a player that has done the whole Korthos Island experience tutorial once, and therefore will most likely skip it in the future with newly created toons, cant group with someone who has not skipped the tutorial after character creation.

What this will mean, and I encountered it when making a new toon, is that I could not group with certain level 1-3 toons. The toons in question had either been created before the update, even if they hadn't left the tavern, or was the 2nd or 3rd toon created after the update and upon leaving character creation choose to skip the tutorial.

If Turbine is trying to get new players to the world, it is counter productive to basically force all newbs to group together, so nobody knows what they are doing. These trial players in question need to be able to group with experienced players who can answer questions and guide them around (if they are willing of couse). I spentover 3 hours last night runnig quests and along the way helped 4 new players to the game set up voice chat and a push to talk button, expanding their toolbars, etc., etc. I wasnt forced to help them, but I was forced to only party with toons that were on the same Korthos Island experience as myself. I dont mind helping new players, giving advice, etc., but there needs to be a way that in the future, when I do in fact skip the tutorial, I will be able to group with new or old players.

I think that Turbine needs to allow any newly created characters to group together, no matter if they skipped the tutorial or not. My god, the quests are levels 1-3 and you are telling players that they cant group together.

We on Khyber, especially those of us in the Help userchannel, have been complaining about this for a long time now. It has caused us to fundamentally readjust how we need to serve the new player to DDO. I would very much like Turbine to fix this as it is more an impediment rather than an incentive to new players remaining in the game.

the other thing that bothers me is that there is no mailbox, no way to get some potions to a new character. You can only loot starter cure light potions so much, if you are stuck soloing to get out, that might not cut it

I rather like the intro and forcing new players to group together will do more to promote the idea of PUG's!
I think.

And the lack of a mail box is great! Plat Farmers and Spamers have a bit of a walk to start buggin us. If you cannot run your character without the items they drop for you, you did something wrong when building your character. The enemies and quests are easy enough to do solo or with just one other person.

Could just be me, but I love the new intro quests.

The grouping issue is definately a PITA. That is my only issue with the NPE.

I never said I didnt like the new quests, I always liked the old versions, and its not the idea of no mailbox (but that would make it easier). My gripe is that I dont think that forcing new players to group together will do more for pugs, I think many will get frustrated and not renew at the end of their trial period because they dont have any help or guidance, but for the few experienced players who decided to make a new toon post mod 8 and are willing to take the time to help them out.
