It has been a long time since I have played a ranged character so I may be a bit fuzzy on it, but has our rate of fire slowed? Is it slower than enemies' rate of fire? If it is, why?

My level 2 ranged specced ranger with rapid shot is firing a bow MUCH slower than .25cr devourer disciples and I am confused as to why this is.

It's been a long time since I've played a ranged character, but I do use bows on most characters if I have a chance to snipe, to soften up enemies before meleeing, and on some breakables. I also prefer to range certain enemies like bir elementals and beholders.

In my experience, ranged is just as fast as it ever was. I think mod 3 had some sort of adjustment, but it really didn't effect much other than repeaters. As far as I know, enemies have fired about twice as fast as we do since launch. There is a reason Ranged is considerd a dead style and why Tempest is preferred to the 2 ranged Ranger specialties.

As for why enemies fire faster than we do, if they fired as slow as we do, they wouldn't be a threat to anyone.

At level 16 with a bow and the applicable feat you get 106 shots per 2 min or 159 per 2 min with manyshot. Repeaters get around 120 per min or 240 per 2 min.

Mobs do shoot noticeably faster then us. Skeleton archers would be the best for comparison as they never switch to melee and approach.

We have been told many reasons why ranged combat is slower.
1. The game can't handle the increased number of particle tracking - Don't believe this anymore after the sub and kobold quests were put in. The fast teleporting and massive spamming of large AOE spells likely create just as much of a particle tracking pain as more ranged combat.

2. Devs worry about good players infinately kiting mobs and never getting hit - Most mobs change movement speed to match that of the player once they activate. The decreased ranged combat ROA for bows makes bow based ranged combat far more dangerous for that player then melee combat is because that player would be exposed to 4 times the number of special effects from the mob (be it spells or special attacks like trip etc). Good players can already infinately kite mobs but it only serves to alienate that player from others who do not understand the reason behind kiting the mobs around.

3. In Beta everyone ran around with repeaters and ranged combat was supreme, which precipitated the nerf in the first place - Funny how repeaters have the fastest attack rate in the entire game still. Bow based combat is pretty much a joke compared to repeaters for the more desirable effects (crit based - banish, smite, puncturing) due to the higher critical range and the faster speed. Most bow based ranged combat users would spend 2 feats to speed up their ROA to that of repeaters.

Non-repeater based ranged combat is so much slower that you run into hundreds of melees who don't carry a single ranged weapon. I was in Prey on the Hunter and the red named giant got caught on the wall when he was supposed to fall and wouldn't come down. In a group with 1 other ranger (class) and 2 fighters, I was the only person with a ranged weapon. It took about 10 minutes to kill the red named vs the 2-3 he would last in melee combat.

The skeleton archers in the desert use either pure evil or unholy weapons....I can't remember off hand.

If it is intentional for enemies to fire so much faster than us, then all I can say is that it is lame and I may put this guy on the back burner before he ever even gets started. Either slow the enemy rate of fire to ours, or speed ours up to theirs.

Not now ranged bow is so under balanced. And the whole problem is rate of fire.

In PnP a tank may get a couple of swings per round, and an archer 1 shot. The issue is archers still get 1 shot but tanks and melee get 15 or something insane.

I would be all up for a feat or enhancement that scalled our rate of fire.

Also we lack most of the specialaity of a true Arcane Archer class.

I think we need to see rate of fiere increases and speciality classes done more to DnD standards.

Actually in PnP most Bow users attack faster than a S&B or THF melee. THey have the same rate of attack based onBAB and a Feat called Rapid SHot that gives them 1 more at a -2 penalty to all attacks

Don't need that. Just fix the problem as it stands now. Shouldn't need to have to take a Feat or enhancement just to attack at a reasonable rate. those should improve you to Heroic rate

would be lovely

My ranged character spends most of his time TWF, unless the mission is really easy or manyshot is up. Please fix ranged combat. That is all.

while we are at it...

the 2min cool down for many **** is just absolutely absurd. 2 minutes for 20seconds? thats just flat out ridiculous.
