As I write this, my wizard is swinging at the portal in Aussircaex's Valley. The portal is at 50%, after I've gone in, talked to my wife, poured myself a Coke, drank it, talked to the wife again until she told me to go away so she could finish her quest, then finally decided to sit down and write this idea.

Anyway -- how about instead of just brute force swinging, what if the portals had a long disarm period similar to the "protect the gate" quest in House J?

Anyway, it's an idea. There are probably plenty of other things that are more important...

Portal is now at about 40%. I'm going to surf the web for a bit.

Portal just dropped... I'm guessing 25-30 minutes total to "kill" it with my wizard.

don't you know? it's Turbine's evil way of keeping us "occupied" instead of moving on to do something more..... progressive :D
