The following guilds are looking for more adventurers. Learn more about them here!

The Poverty Guild, of the Argonnessen server
Compendium Page: http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/The_Poverty_Guild
Recruitment Thread: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=157652
"Poverty is a new guild on Argo whose purpose is to ensure that players remain poor and ill equipped to handle the task at hand. We're a non-hardcore guild. We're easy going. We're "eh, alright". We prefer normal quests, and hard if we're feeling edgy. We're more interested in exploring and advancing and getting a handle on all that D&D has to offer at every level. You will encounter builds that are unusual, non-optimal, or the like, accept them and enjoy and make your own. This is the Perma-Sanction Guild."
White Council, of the Ghallanda server
Compendium Page: http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/White_Council
"The White Council is a group of mature adventurers that enjoy grouping and raiding together. Everyone brings something to the table, and we value each thing that you can offer. We know our own when we meet them!"To Hit Armor Class Zero, of the Ghallanda server
Compendium Page: http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/To_Hit_Armor_Class_Zero
"Our membership includes players from Canada, the US, and Australia and we are always looking for good people to join. Although we are primarily a social guild, we are not above forming raid parties and hosting guild runs for some of the more difficult quests. You will find all of our members helpful and encouraging for both new players and old. Whether you need advice on quests, character builds, or just have general questions about DDO, you will always find our officers and senior members helpful and (usually!) well versed in the world of Ebberon."Medieval Moonbase, of the Sarlona server
Compendium Page: http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/Medieval_Moonbase
"New Guild with a good group of old PnP players, part of large multi-gaming community. We stress mature gaming, and want to be as active as we can. If interested contact Steadys, Cerip, Kaagneer, Jyslin, or Deazra."Inferus SuS, of the Thelanis server
Compendium Page: http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/Guild:Inferus_SuS
"We are a group of adults who want to enjoy the experience of Dungeons & Dragons Online with unique, like-minded individuals who are dedicated to having fun. We are family and couples oriented and understand that sometimes the needs of our families might interrupt our play time, however, we try to limit those occurrences to as few as we possibly can. Our play style is varied from exploration to gaining levels in a hurry power levelling, with a focus towards end game. We also have some avid PVP/ers as this is a good lighthearted way to test our playing skills and character's builds in game. We operate on a 'need before greed' basis when determining loot disbursement, and our focus is on integrity, honesty and applying “the golden rule” to our guild-mates. Recruitment is open - drop by our website to check out what we are about and apply for membership. An officer will get back in contact with you there and arrange a meet and greet time in game."

Over 500 guilds have pages available in the Compendium! Read more about guilds in the Compendium by clicking here! (http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/Category:Guild_and_Character_listings_by_server)

This week, we're taking a moment to spotlight some of the community's regularly occurring advice and question answering features. These range from official talk with the Turbine Team to player-run advice and help segments!

The QA Lodge (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=151924)

Have you ever encountered something in the game and you're not quite sure if it's a bug or a design feature? The QA team has been fielding questions in the QA Lodge for times when you're just not certain if something is "by design" or not. Be sure to look the Lodge rules over before you enter the Lodge, and check out the QA News section of the thread for important and upcoming information related to the game!

Ask The Devs (http://www.ddocast.com/)

Top fansite DDOCast has been collecting questions from players to field to Turbine. Members of Turbine's DDO development team gather on the show for this reoccurring podcast segment of DDOCast to answer the questions collected by the show's host, Jerry Snook. From History to Dragonmarks, an extensive range of topics is covered and many are now available in his Compendium page!

Ask Gornn (http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/Category:Ask_Gornn_Archive)

Offering friendly advice to players new and old, Gornn has started a DDO-themed "Dear Abby" column. From awkward social moments to general game woes, Gornn tries to offer help and a friendly ear to those who write in.

Game Tip of the Week

Be sure to check the coloration on your loot item icons. Items that are yellow or red mean that you will be ineffective, or possibly unable, to use some items or gear.

http://ddoimages.level3.turbine.com/files/45/13/19/58/1435.jpg

The following threads are scheduled to be unstuck on September 19th, 2008 unless they are adopted:

Thread Name: Argonnessen Swappers Listing (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=95556)

About the Thread:

In March of 2007, community member DaveyCrockett began keeping a running list of active trade lists for the Argonnessen server. From "Bee's Bundle 'O Bargains" to "War's Battle Gear," frequent traders' thread "shops" were sorted and updated. This thread can be a fun tool for players who are fond of item trades!

Interested in adopting a sticky? Learn more by clicking here! (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=151024)

But the concept of no WDA is from Module 6. ;)

Borror0

Could you complain about this more please?

Sure.

I think it's mis-leading to say "Looking for a character design? Unsure of which feat to take next? Check out this week's character builds for tips, designs, and other help with your character's advancement!" as it suggests those are well thought and strong builds. That is not the case.

As Tolero pointed out previously, she does not choose the 'best' builds, but interesting threads. It can be because the concept is new or that there is a very interesting discussion going on. How 'good' the build is does not enter the equation and for that reason, the header should be changed. I agree with Tolero, that a thread can be pointed at for the discussion going on. Forums readers can learn from a thread even though the build is horrible. My problem really just is with how it is presented and how it suggests those builds are good...

Happy?

Tolero

Actually that's the reason I avoided the adjectives: "best" "recommended" "suggested" or "popular" and went with "featured". Think of it like an art gallery - art can be "featured", but who likes the art is still a highly subjective subject :D

I'll see what I can do about the wording on that to make it more apparent.

I always saw featured as "having reached a certain level of quality", but English is not my native language so I could be wrong.

nah, just look at American television and film.

"featured" doesn't mean quality, it just means "somebody paid enough money to have this shoved in front of your face."

In the context of DDO builds, it appears to be "builds that show imagination, no matter how gimped or unfeasible."

Well, it's possible that the middle word is more of a setting specific word. Though what it is, I do not know.

It's always about the fleshies. No love for the nonPee'ing warforged I see. See if the dwarfs get to pee on all the elves anymore once these agreements are up.

Heres my Take on the "Featured Builds"

First, I dnt think they need to be "The Best" One of the great things about this game is the variety. what may be a Terrible build on paper(Or Forum Text) could be a very fun build to play or at least give someone a starting concept for their own ideas.

that being said, I think there needs to be a little more condiseration when choosing which builds to focus on.

Focus Builds should NOT just be the raw output from Rons Character generator. This may mean someone to the person who plugged in all the steps, but it really means very little in the end.

There should be an explanation of the build. What the concept actually is and what the overall direction the character is going to take. The designers caveat's and what they think makes the build special should also be included.

and last but certainly not least, The Designer of the build should be active on his ownbuild thread. THis doesnt mean he has to be online 24/7 ust incase someone asks a question, but at least once a day. 2 of the 3 builds this week are by people who are not very active on the forums at all.

-------------

Raw character generator build presentations generally do not get much feedback because the people who look at them have no idea what the concept is. How can I comment on raw data? I have no idea if the build is any good if I have no idea what the build is supposed tobe good at.

---------

Oh, and Tolero.... Can I have an "N"?

Highlight, with emphasis, on what I said last week. Also other highlight would be a nomenclature change to Build Concepts, not the following: Looking for a character design? Unsure of which feat to take next? Check out this week's character builds for tips, designs, and other help with your character's advancement!

I'll demo a rewrite of that same phrase that will probably appease folks such as myself and Borror0, although I still think some more validation other than request to be represented should result in selection as Impact recommended.

These builds are always diverse, which is great. Diversity is good, but if the diversity isn't presented meaningfully, isn't it really just a mixed-up soup with no real special flavor? Yeah, it tastes unique, but I really have a hard time discerning what I'm eating.

Demo Rewrite: "Considering building a new character, but out of ideas? Wondering what feat is the right one for you at level six? Check out this week's character concept builds on innovative builds, recommendations for new build advancement, and tips on how to play these new builds.

Also, Tolero and Turbine Staff, THANK-YOU for including the information on new character slots in the coming mod(s). I know it doesn't really affect me, but some of my friends will be glad they can stop creating threads about more character slots. I was worried that the Druid & Half-Orc releases would become salt in the open wound for these players, but they now can *pre-plan* and smartly reserve this slot for their would-be half-orc and/or druid. Huge kudos for leaking this info (it will result in less threads clamoring for slots, I hope!)

I was quite pleased when Tolero selected the Kung Fu Caster as a featured build (and no, before you ask, I did not request her to do so:) ). I put several hours of work into this build - as I do all my builds - and I was hoping Tolero's selection would increase conversation about the build and help me improve it.

Instead I found conversation questioning Tolero's choices and nothing about the build itself. :( Hey, but at least the conversation was vaguely insulting! yay

I think it would be a mistake to make Tolero the Build Police and expect her featured build choices to satisfy everyone else's criteria. For one reason, there are only a dozen or less builds that are considered "top-shelf" at any given moment; the list of Featured Builds would be exhausted already. But even more, you are all pressing her to use really subjective criteria.

According to this one thread, a featured build should be:
well thought
strong
good
having reached a certain level of quality
presented meaningfully
from someone who posts on the forums at least once a day
A featured build should not be:
horrible
gimped
unfeasible
raw output from Rons Character generator
A featured build should include:
explanation
concept
overall direction
designers caveat's
what they think makes the build special
Attributes specified as NOT identifying a featured build:
shows imagination
diverse

Good luck with that Tolero!

Creativity and imagination are a good thing for a featured build. A build going a totally new path is cool, but there is a limit of feasibility that was absent from some featured build in the last few weeks. Without asking for totally optimized builds, or flavor-of-the-month builds, you can still have 'solid' builds that are creative.

And for reference, a build out of Ron's planner is not fun to look at.
